I felt like all my feelings had taken turns to show up today.

‘What was Mom talking about? She actually told me that she was a vampire? I understood every word she said, but how did those words form a sentence?

“Dylan, I’m sorry. I know you might not be able to take it as I tell you all of this all of a sudden. But it’s the truth. I’m telling you because I sensed the presence of other vampires.”
Seeing that Mom’s expression was very serious, I didn’t know what to say, so I could only pretend to be calm and continue waiting for what she was about to say.

“Because your father is a human and I am a vampire. The Kindred doesn’t allow vampires to fall in love with humans. Of course, they won’t allow their children to be born either. Mom didn’t explain too much, but it was easy to understand with a little thought. Since we all belonged to the Kindred, she could sense the auras of other vampires, and we, who were so young, naturally could be sensed by other vampires too.
For us, who were so young, this was a disaster.

“Why are you only telling me about this? Doesn’t Evelyn have to know?” I asked like that.

“Because of the prophecy. Dylan, you might very well be the ‘new king’ according to Lady Isla’s prophecy. The aura I sensed this time is the aura of a member of the House of Stuart, the current ruler of the Kindred.”

Then, Mom sighed in frustration again. “You know Evelyn’s personality. I’m afraid she’ll do something wrong after she finds out about our identities.”

I watched as my father held my mother in his arms and comforted her silently. Facing my father’s painful gaze, I didn’t know how much the two of them had gone through together, but I could imagine how powerless and hateful my father felt towards these inhuman powers. They were only in love, but
they were hunted down.

Compared to the unknown danger, I felt more sorry for my family.
“Are we leaving? What should I tell Evelyn?” At this point, I could already accept the truth.

“Find a suitable time to talk to her! Dylan, you’re in the most danger right now. We’ll settle everything here as soon as possible and then leave. Try not to leave home during this period of time. If you must go out, ask me or your father to go with you. The Kindred won’t kill during the day. You must go
home at night. This is an order, understand?”

“Hm.” nodded.
After that, I heard a lot more about the Kindred, about the prophecy, about my parents.
Perhaps I should be glad that Evelyn wasn’t a boy. There was a good chance she would survive. As Mom said, the word “new king” contained so much meaning, Could I really survive the pursuit of so many inhuman forces?
