Chapter 265: 134 Grumpy Old Father_3
At last, Nardo managed to hold back his emotions.
But such restraint was destined to be temporary.
The safety mechanism of the laser pistol was activated over and over again.
When Yang Ming and Hera arrived at the hot springs resort and entered the same room;
When Hera said, “I’ve prepared a sexy bathrobe,” and went into the bathroom to change, Yang Ming opened the bedside table to look for a safety device;
When both of them had changed into bathrobes, wrapping themselves in the hotel’s robes, and headed to the reserved individual onsen…
Nardo exhibited extraordinary stamina.
The two military officers, on the other hand, demonstrated exceptional emotional intelligence.
They kept persuading Nardo with, “We can’t control children,” “Overprotection is the biggest harm,” “She’s already 26 years old.”
At last…
When Yang Ming and Hera stepped into the onsen and began playfully splashing water around.
Nardo sat exhausted against the wall of the next room, tilting his head back to listen to the laughter coming from the other side, and he sighed in despair.
She had grown up.
Her existence wasn’t to make him proud; she had her own life now.
Dr. Nardo’s eyes began to moisten.
Suddenly…
“Want to try it?” came Yang Ming’s deep voice.
“Here?”
“The atmosphere is just right, isn’t it?”
“Okay, I might be a bit rusty, but I’ll get a handle on the technique quickly.”
Dr. Nardo sprang to his feet, grabbed the pistol, and charged toward the next bathroom.
These were things to do after marriage! Ah! What kind of sorcery has this damned young man used! They!
“Doctor! Professor Pat is calling!”
Nardo frowned deeply, suddenly stepped forward, and vigorously knocked on Yang Ming and Hera’s room, then signaled to the officer beside him and retreated to the adjacent room.
Connecting the call, Professor Pat’s hoarse voice came through the receiver.
“You don’t have a vacation anymore, Nardo, those things are restless, and the breeding chamber has also shown anomalies.”
“I’ll be right back,” Nardo’s voice immediately turned utterly calm.
But just as he was about to leave, he turned his head for one last look at the wall, pondered for a moment, and added, “It might be delayed by about five minutes.”
“Be quick,” Professor Pat ended the call.
Nardo took a deep breath, his expression slightly darkened.
The door of the neighboring room opened, and Yang Ming frowned at the two military officers, feigning ignorance, he wondered, “Officers, what’s the matter?”
“We suspect you’re involved in smuggling trade, please assist us with the investigation, it will only take a few minutes.”
“Fine, but my girlfriend is here,” Yang Ming said softly, “Could I take her back to the room first… I have only this robe and this network terminal on me, you can follow me, and the terminal can be handed over to you… Can we not scare her, is that okay?”
The two officers immediately showed a trace of a smile and nodded in agreement.
Soon, Yang Ming escorted Hera back to their room, he gently squeezed her shoulder, and Hera immediately understood what had happened.
Her father was coming.
“Let’s go, officer, I’ll fully cooperate with your investigation.”
Yang Ming closed the room door, revealing a calm yet slightly panicked smile.
“Relax, it’s nothing serious,” one of the officers reassured him, leading Yang Ming away from the corridor.
Inside the room, Hera turned on the projector and tossed several printed papers onto a conspicuous spot on the desk; after doing this, she started staring out the window, regulating her breath.
In the corridor, Nardo walked leisurely with hands behind his back.
He was fairly impressed with Yang Ming’s conduct just now.
Nardo raised his right hand, hesitated for a few seconds, and at last lightly knocked on the door.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me, Hera.”
Hera hurriedly opened the door, her expression a mixture of surprise, “Dad? What are you doing here? Weren’t you conducting research in another Star Domain?”
Nardo glanced left and right, gesturing her inside, then closed the door behind him.
He saw the printed papers.
“I happened to be here studying crop necrosis, don’t worry, I had the military people take your little boyfriend away.”
Nardo shrugged his shoulders.
He tried to look at Hera, but when Hera’s clear eyes reflected his own face, Nardo instinctively chose to avoid her gaze.
He stammered:
“He’s excellent, but he might be a playboy, remember what I’ve repeatedly reminded you, some things should wait until after marriage.
“Your mother left early, I need to teach you these things.”
“Uh-huh,” Hera responded indifferently, “So this is a biologist explaining to his daughter that menorrhagia is due to excessive exercise leading to internal bleeding?”
“That,” Nardo rubbed his brow, “Alright Hera, I don’t have that much time, I have to leave now, I just wanted to say… if you’re sure about him.”
Hera said, “Alright, father, I’m sure.”
Nardo decided to return to a topic he was more comfortable with:
“How’s your recent scholarly research going? Sorry, I’ve been too busy, haven’t communicated with you about these for half a year.
“Is this your latest paper? You really haven’t slacked off… The effects of microbial communication on the host organism?
“This topic is great… your experimental data…”
Nardo was struck as by lightning, suddenly he looked up, staring at Hera.
Hera had no significant expression, just crossed her arms, staring back at Nardo.
“Have you published this experiment?” Nardo asked quickly.
“No, father,” Hera answered calmly, “You can, just like eight years ago, claim this research as your own.”
“Oh, Hera, a lot happened eight years ago, how could I possibly steal your honor?
“I wish nothing more than to pass all my knowledge to you, to let you reach the fields I couldn’t!”
Nardo frowned and said:
“Come with me to a place, will you? Now, immediately, it’s a matter of utmost importance!”
“I’m staying with my boyfriend.”
“Let him wait here for one night!” Nardo exclaimed with resolve.
Hera considered for a moment, “Then you go out, I need to change.”
“Be quick!”
Nardo nodded immediately, taking the printed papers and turning to leave, not seeing the hint of sadness that flickered in his daughter’s eyes.
‘Here we go again.’
