Chapter 268: 136 The Queen Mother Worm Opens Her Mouth!
Yang Ming had seen various forms of the Space Worm Clan in the “Abyss” game, but he had never experienced such complex emotions as he did today.
He used to think it was just a game.
Now he realized, that thing might very well be a galactic civilization simulator!
Hera had successfully entered the underground base.
Because Nardo was watching his daughter, the security system’s staff was not too strict with Hera.
When they asked Hera to hand over the backpack, she clung tightly to its straps, allowing them to check the inside and outside of the bag and the files within using all kinds of methods.
The backpack itself had nothing unusual.
According to Lyu, the real factor affecting Hera was the faint biological markers left by Yang Ming on the backpack.
To put it simply, it was the scent.
After clearing security, Hera and her father boarded the shuttle hovercar, and a series of security gates lay ahead.
Yang Ming quietly waited;
waited for the moment when the true Insect Race would appear before him.
He had tried many times over the past few days to recall information about the Insect Race from “Abyss.”
If one were to view parts of the “Abyss” game’s background as the chronicle of the next twenty-eight years of this Galaxy,
one significant incident involving the Insect Race would occur in the Imperial New Calendar year 731, which was six years after Yang Ming’s current time. Suddenly, without warning, the Sherman Empire experienced a small-scale insect disaster, followed by a series of events in the next ten years leading to the most severe second Natural Disaster in the history of the Sherman Empire.
Yang Ming had not previously paid much attention to this matter.
After all, it was still quite far away.
The active cycle of the Space Worm Clan had intervals spanning centuries. At this point in time, it should be a low outbreak period for the insect disasters, and all countries had relaxed their vigilance. The insect disaster index released by related international organizations remained at the lowest level.
Everyone’s focus was on the multi-polar rivalry arising from the rapid rise of the New Federation.
No one would expect bugs to suddenly appear, nor would anyone prepare for an insect warning.
But who could have imagined…
Beneath the tranquil Ram Star, there lay a base for researching the Space Worm Clan. The New Federation had long planned to use the insect disaster to trigger a comprehensive decline in the Sherman Empire’s national strength.
Insects had become a political tool.
This taxi was circling around the area where the base was located, making rounds from a distance.
Yang Ming closed his eyes to rest, waiting quietly for a few minutes.
“I’ve got the photos, boss!”
As soon as Lyu spoke, several photos instantly popped up on the projection screen before Yang Ming.
They showed the transparent laboratory near the base entrance.
Some Basic Insects in their basic forms looked as if they were dead, plastered to the floor, wrapped in dense probes and coils, with at least ten laser cannons pointed at their heads and bodies.
Several men and women performing experiments behind special glass were recording various data.
To Yang Ming, the basic-form insects seemed like a cross between ‘crabs’ and ‘mantises.’ They had a hard, pale red shell, sharp bladed limbs, a triangular head, and a faintly glowing abdomen.
These insects appeared to be Second or Third Rank Basic Insects.
Behind them was a structure resembling a ladybug’s shell, concealing two pairs of fast-vibrating thin wings capable of quick flight.
“Boss, your brainwaves are starting to show anomalies,” Lyu softly reminded.
“I’m feeling a bit eager for battle now,” Yang Ming whispered, “that should be the instinct of the Ancient Gods affecting me. Don’t worry about it.”
“Boss,” Lyu said, “you could actually return to the Feinan now.”
“Let’s wait a bit longer,” Yang Ming said. “If everything goes smoothly with Hera, we’ll verify what reaction these insects have if I appear above the base.”
“Yes, boss, that is indeed necessary.”
Lyu replied softly.
She seemed to be in a pretty good mood.
More and more photos appeared before Yang Ming, and Lyu simultaneously drew a ‘speculative overhead map’ of the underground base.
The overall structure of the underground base resembled a toppled Ferris wheel.
At the center of the base was the circular space where the queen’s giant petri dish was located, serving as the hub with paths spreading in all directions, connecting to various laboratories, hatcheries, and armories.
The living quarters for the experiment personnel were in a separate underground area, entirely isolated from the region housing the Insect Race.
Based on the details in the pictures:
The base’s interior was also lined with security doors, rapidly isolating any area in case of an emergency.
The base was filled with high-tech machinery, with densely packed laser cannons on the walls. Mechanical Guards came in various types and were plentiful, and they were responsible for guarding and interfacing with the insects directly to minimize the toll on experiment personnel during procedures.
Lyu spoke softly,
“Boss, if we want to take this place down, we might utilize these robots.
“However, the robotics systems here are quite advanced. It will take some time to prepare to remotely control them.
“Wind’s technological level in military matters is nearly a full civilization level behind that of the New Federation.”
“Lyu, avoid combat as much as possible,” Yang Ming said calmly, “all we need is the information. If we expose our identity here, we might be hunted by the New Federation to the ends of the earth.”
New photos continued to pop up.
Nardo and Professor Pat appeared in the photos. They seemed to be in a dispute, while Hera observed coldly from the side.
Frowning, Yang Ming asked, “Lyu, can you let me hear what they’re saying?”
“I need to process the audio a bit… Done.”
