Chapter 312: Chapter 312: Not a Sterile Constitution
The moment Su Meixi saw her period had come, she felt her whole world turn upside down.
Wasn’t it said that traveling was conducive to conception? Why then, despite being together with Gu Wei every day during this time, had she still not gotten pregnant?
Knowing that Su Meixi had her period, Gu Wei also felt somewhat disappointed, but his attitude was still rather positive, “Maybe it’s because we haven’t moved into the villa yet, perhaps the child wants to live in a villa?”
Su Meixi thought so too. Some children are just astute at choosing the right time and environment to be born into – her child was probably just not ready yet.
However, Su Meixi felt it was necessary to have some check-ups done.
Once her period was over, Su Meixi made an appointment with a gynecologist for a check-up.
She had her progesterone checked, her pregnancy hormones as well, and even underwent another ultrasound.
The gynecologist used to be in her training group in the military, so their relationship was quite good. Looking at Su Meixi’s report, she said doubtfully, “Theoretically, you just have a slightly retroverted uterus, which could make it slightly more difficult–but you’re not the type that gets pregnant at the drop of a hat, nor do you have a body that’s difficult to conceive with.”
Su Meixi’s heart skipped a beat at that.
Did that mean the problem lay with Gu Wei?
She hurriedly laughed it off with her colleague, “Maybe it’s because we’ve been apart more than together in the past. Seems like we need to work harder.”
She couldn’t voice her suspicions out loud. Once a colleague in the hospital found out, it would be a case of I tell you, you tell someone else, and in the end, there would be many versions of the story–all unfavorable to Gu Wei.
Her colleague, unaware of the situation, said, “Then you two should keep trying when you get back, maintain a good mood, and you’ll definitely be able to conceive.”
Su Meixi returned to her own office and looked over the medical reports again.
Even though she was not a gynecologist, she could still understand the reports.
After reviewing them many times, she was sure she didn’t have any problems!
Then, the issue must lie with Gu Wei!
Could it be the insomnia he had at the beginning, or the severe injury he suffered later that affected his fertility?
Su Meixi decided not to tell Gu Wei just yet, opting to observe for a little longer.
…
Wang Bing asked Su Meixi, “I heard you also went to get your pregnancy hormones checked today?”
See, that’s just how it is in the hospital, everyone is so gossipy.
“Yes, just wanted to clear up some doubts in my mind,” Su Meixi replied.
Wang Bing herself has struggled with this issue, so she told Su Meixi, “May I have a look too?”
Su Meixi showed her the reports.
Having been tested numerous times herself, Wang Bing was certain, “It’s not you, all your indicators are lower than mine, and mine are indicative of difficulty in conceiving. Perhaps Gu Wei should come for a check-up as well.”
Su Meixi said, “Let’s not tell him for now. Men are prideful, and he has just recently transitioned careers. Let’s wait a bit more. Besides, it might not be a problem with him, maybe it’s just not the right timing for us.”
Wang Bing patted her on the shoulder, “Keep going!”
Su Meixi also showed concern for Wang Bing, “Have you been going to the bar recently?”
“Occasionally, but going to bars is expensive, I can’t afford to go regularly. Plus, as a divorced individual without a house or car, I have to think about the future,” Wang Bing replied.
Su Meixi asked her, “Didn’t you say you were planning to buy your own place?”
“Yes, I’m going on my next day off. Are you free then? Come and help me check it out?” Wang Bing knew Su Meixi had already purchased a villa. She just wanted an extra person for a second opinion, as two sets of eyes are better than one for spotting issues.
Su Meixi immediately agreed.
…
Today, Gu Wei officially started his job at the S Commission.
In the past, he would be in uniform for work, but now it’s suits every day, which makes him look sharp.
Although the suits are simple and unbranded, neither custom-made nor handcrafted, they have a grounded look to them.
Su Meixi couldn’t help but tease him for a while, then went to embrace him.
“Why do I feel like I’m sending a child off to kindergarten?” Su Meixi said.
Gu Wei pinched her waist, “Are you worried about me?”
“It’s a new post; I’m concerned you might not adapt well.”
“How could that be the case? I can adapt anywhere,” he reassured her.
Their sweet nothings exchanged, they left the house together for work.
On their way, they ran into Sister Hong and Mdm. Li, who were out shopping for groceries.
“Oh, is Gu Wei off to work?”
Gu Wei said with a smile, “Yep, no need to take me along next time we buy groceries.”
The sisters-in-law expressed their disappointment: “That’s such a shame; we’ll miss out on lots of fun. But it’s good for you to start working, so we won’t have to explain to others why a big guy like you is grocery shopping with us every day.”
…
Su Meixi went to work.
Working in the hospital, you’d occasionally come across some bizarre situations.
Today, a woman came in with her boyfriend.
The man was supporting the woman, and she had her arms wrapped around his waist. They seemed in pretty bad shape.
“Where does it hurt?” asked Su Meixi.
The woman sat down, one hand still holding her boyfriend’s, and then she started to cry, “My wrist hurts.”
Her wrist hurts?
Su Meixi wondered for a moment, “Your leg doesn’t hurt?”
“No, it doesn’t.”
If the leg doesn’t hurt, why was she being supported upon entering?
“Then let me take a look at your hand,” said Su Meixi.
The woman offered her wrist to Su Meixi, and before Su Meixi even touched it, she started crying, clinging to her boyfriend: “Ouch, it’s so painful, I’m afraid to look.”
The man, feeling tenderly towards her, both kissed and licked her face, “Be good baby, don’t be scared.”
After much dilly-dallying, the woman finally handed her hand over to Su Meixi.
As soon as Su Meixi pressed it slightly, the woman screamed again.
Su Meixi was left speechless.
There were still people in line outside; couldn’t she be a bit quicker?
“How about the man steps outside? I can’t examine her with you here,” Su Meixi suggested.
The man agreed to step out, but not before hugging the woman tightly once more.
They separated with difficulty, and he said to Su Meixi: “Doctor, you must cure her.”
“Well, I need to first understand what’s wrong with her,” replied Su Meixi.
The man then coaxed his girlfriend: “Baby, don’t worry, you’ll be just fine.”
The woman’s eyes brimmed with tears.
After examining for a while, Su Meixi confirmed it was just tendinitis.
Just as she was about to write out an order, the man rushed back in: “Doctor, I really couldn’t stop worrying, so I came to check on her.”
The two of them embraced each other again.
Fine, Su Meixi thought, too lazy to comment. Let them be however they want.
…
Noon.
Su Meixi packed up her things, thinking about heading home for lunch, but then she suddenly remembered Gu Wei wasn’t at home to cook anymore.
She sent him a message: How was your day today?
There was no reply from his end, and not until she reached the cafeteria to have her meal did Gu Wei reply: [Quite busy.]
[Then you’ll have to get used to it.]
[I know, thanks for your concern, wife. Have you eaten yet?]
[Eating now] Su Meixi took a photo of her meal and sent it to him.
Then Gu Wei also sent her a photo of his meal.
Suddenly, Su Meixi felt that their actions were becoming increasingly silly.
But isn’t it precisely these mundane things through which affections are nurtured?
Love isn’t always dramatic and intense; it often flows quietly and steadily.
Su Meixi and Gu Wei chatted as they ate their meals, and just after finishing, another message popped up on her phone: Xiao Xi, it’s Mom.
