Chapter 280: Chapter 278: Quite Good Relationships with… People?
Xu Zhenzhen was clearly startled before seeing Lu Zhaozhao wink at her.
Immediately she understood that their dear Zhaozhao had secretly helped her out.
She had previously heard from Zhao Xi that the Xia family’s brothers all cherished Lu Zhaozhao greatly.
It made sense to her, as a girl like Lu Zhaozhao was not someone people could resist doting on.
Initially, she thought that a rich girl like Lu Zhaozhao would be difficult to get along with and foolish, but after getting to know her, Xu Zhenzhen found her incredibly likable.
So even though Song Sinian, her boss, could be demanding, Xu Zhenzhen never declined any task.
Thinking this, Xu Zhenzhen couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh–the so-called sweet burden was now hers as well.
With a silent sigh in her heart, she tried not to care too much about Xia Wenqing.
She knew he didn’t like her–in fact, he despised her.
Otherwise, why would the normally affable Xia Wenqing be so cold to her alone?
Sigh, such bad karma.
Thinking like this, Xu Zhenzhen followed Xia Wenqing back to the Legal Department.
As soon as they set foot in the door, one after the other, a figure hastened straight toward Xu Zhenzhen and hugged her, saying, “My dear little Zhenzhen, why did you come back so late? I…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Xia Wenqing directly plucked him off Xu Zhenzhen.
JIM was obviously taken aback when he realized who had picked him up–and then wore a look of embarrassment.
“Manager Xia…”
Xia Wenqing glanced at him and said coldly, “Contracts and documents are easy to damage.”
It was then that JIM noticed the documents Xu Zhenzhen was cradling. His orchid-like fingers shot up in alarm as he said in a panic, “I’m sorry, Manager Xia; I was just anxiously looking for my little treasure Zhenzhen, I didn’t see…”
Xia Wenqing looked at the man in front of him–made up with eyeliner and sporting mid-length curly hair–his brows uncontrollably twitched a few times. “Xu Zhenzhen is my person from now on; allocate less menial work to her.”
His person?
Xu Zhenzhen’s heart skipped a beat.
Her gaze slowly shifted to Xia Wenqing, his profile especially striking, and the line from his jaw down to his neck always seemed so bewitching.
Xia Wenqing also seemed to realize that his words might not have been quite appropriate, and added, “Xu Zhenzhen will be my secretary from now on and will follow up on the cases I’m handling. Everyone should focus on their own work.”
After saying this, he turned and left directly.
Of course, Xu Zhenzhen obediently followed behind him.
Xia Wenqing glanced at Xu Zhenzhen out of the corner of his eye and then went to pour himself some coffee.
Since the office had been set up temporarily, it wasn’t fully equipped.
After setting down the documents and files she was holding, Xu Zhenzhen saw Xia Wenqing with a cup and suddenly thought of something, “Manager Xia!”
Xia Wenqing paused and turned around to look at Xu Zhenzhen but was splashed on the hand by the hot water from the coffee machine.
Xu Zhenzhen was immediately horrified. She had actually wanted to warn Xia Wenqing that the coffee machine was prone to malfunction and was originally supposed to be sent for repairs.
But because Xia Wenqing had moved offices, this coffee machine had been forgotten.
She had meant well, worried that Xia Wenqing might get scalded, only to end up with him getting burned.
In a panic, Xu Zhenzhen rushed over and grabbed Xia Wenqing’s hand, directing it under the running water of the sink.
Luckily, as it was early winter, the water was sufficiently cold, which was perfect for easing the burn on the back of his hand.
Xia Wenqing watched Xu Zhenzhen’s every move silently, his whole being feeling somewhat dazed.
Xu Zhenzhen only realized what she was doing after Xia Wenqing’s hand had stopped being so red.
She wanted to explain herself, but then she saw Xia Wenqing suddenly pull his hand away.
Xu Zhenzhen was taken aback. Was he angry?
She felt a bit awkward and tugged at the corners of her mouth, “Uh, sorry, I didn’t know you don’t like physical contact with others. I was just startled too, it was a reflex… I didn’t mean to touch you on purpose.”
Xia Wenqing took a deep breath and turned his face away, “It’s not that.”
Afterward, he stretched his hand toward the tap again.
The “whoosh” of water rushing from the tap seemed to desperately break the silence in the room, but to no avail.
Xu Zhenzhen watched Xia Wenqing’s focused expression and couldn’t help but curl her lips slightly.
So, it wasn’t that he didn’t like physical contact, he just didn’t like her touching him?
Xu Zhenzhen sighed heavily, wishing she had kept her mouth shut.
Yet, seeing the burn on the back of his hand, she pursed her lips and eventually said, “This coffee machine is a bit faulty, sometimes the water comes out late, and it might suddenly spew hot water after the coffee is done brewing, it’s easy to get scalded.”
At her words, Xia Wenqing’s eyebrows instantly furrowed, his gaze shifting toward the coffee machine as he fell into thought.
Had she also been scalded before?
Seeing that Xia Wenqing didn’t say anything, Xu Zhenzhen found a seat and sulked to herself.
Fortunately, Xia Wenqing’s hand was treated properly, with no blisters forming, just a bit of redness and swelling, which allowed Xu Zhenzhen to breathe a sigh of relief…
But the office’s coffee machine had become a common worry for both of them.
This damn thing definitely needed to be replaced!
At noon, Song Sinian finally finished his work and went to have lunch with Lu Zhaozhao.
Because she kept thinking about Song Sinian, Lu Zhaozhao was somewhat distracted while eating.
Song Sinian pinched a crystal shrimp dumpling and brought it to Lu Zhaozhao’s mouth, asking as if offhandedly, “What’s wrong? Is there a problem with Doctor Tian?”
He had noticed that Lu Zhaozhao was out of sorts since he returned from the hospital.
He had not asked the reason, hoping Lu Zhaozhao would talk first, but after going to the company, he had been too busy until now, with no chance to ask.
Lu Zhaozhao’s eyes suddenly widened, and she pursed her lips while giving Song Sinian a light smile, “Nothing much. Things with Doctor Tian are going smoothly, and I’ve talked to her – she said you could be with me during hypnosis, which I found comforting.”
But the other issue was not so easy to overlook.
She had wanted to be upfront with Song Sinian, but feared he might reflexively resist if she told him outright to find a few emotional anchors.
So, she had planned to do it secretly, but hadn’t yet figured out how to proceed, which kept her preoccupied since returning from the hospital.
Unexpectedly, Song Sinian had noticed, and she suddenly felt guilty.
Song Sinian’s gaze swept over her face, and his dark eyes slowly dropped.
Although Lu Zhaozhao told him about Doctor Tian, he sensed she was hiding something else.
Because Lu Zhaozhao was too easy to read; unschooled in guarding her feelings around him, almost everything was written all over her face.
She probably wasn’t even aware of it.
Song Sinian relished the trust Lu Zhaozhao placed in him, so he couldn’t help but be concerned seeing her look so troubled.
Lu Zhaozhao, of course, did not know what Song Sinian was thinking.
She rested her chin on her hand, looking at Song Sinian, before speaking slowly, “Sinian, have you met anyone recently with whom you have a good relationship?”
Song Sinian’s eyebrows lifted slightly, “Someone I have a good relationship with…?”
