Chapter 327: Chapter 327: Rescue
“There are no survivors yet, but the situation over there is not optimistic.”
On the other end of the phone, Mrs. Si felt as if her heart had been forcibly gouged out just by saying those words, causing her unbearable breathlessness.
With such a tragic situation, she really couldn’t afford to be optimistic that Ah Li was fine.
Moreover, three days had passed! The possibility of finding survivors after three days was slim.
“Mom, send me the location, I’ll bring people over to expand the search,” Sang Qiao stood up, her legs numb, feeling nothing like her own.
In her mind, everything was a mess, and she had no idea what to do if something really happened to Ah Li.
“Qiaoqiao, stay at home and rest. Si Jing has already taken people over, and I’ll be going there soon,” Mrs. Si unconsciously didn’t want Qiaoqiao to go to such a dangerous place.
If the odds were against Ah Li, and Si Jing couldn’t bear children, they would only have the grandchild in Qiaoqiao’s womb.
“Mom, you know I can find out on my own, and I can’t just anxiously wait here. I need to be at the scene. I will be as cautious as possible and protect myself.”
Sang Qiao clearly stated her thoughts, believing that Ah Li would definitely be safe. He had loved her for so long, and it had taken them so long to finally come to love each other; he surely couldn’t bear to leave all that behind…
Mrs. Si, on the other end of the screen, was persuaded. “I’ll send a car to pick you up soon, but Qiaoqiao, you must take good care of yourself and watch your emotions.”
“Yes, I will. I have to wait for Ah Li to come back, to tell him about the child.”
Sang Qiao’s voice sounded unchanged, but the numbness of her body betrayed her true emotions.
Sang Qiao didn’t know how she had managed to get downstairs, and every second she stood waiting at the door for Mrs. Si was torture.
Meng Jiahe had come to the office early today after dinner and, seeing Sang Qiao standing outside the building, the image of Su Nuanying tumbling down the stairs flashed through her mind, causing her to panic.
She hurriedly said, “Qiaoqiao, don’t move from where you stand.”
“Okay.” Sang Qiao didn’t understand, but she stayed put.
“Qiaoqiao, I heard about Boss Si. Shangguan Yuan has also been in touch with Mrs. Si and sent people to search, everything will surely be fine, don’t worry too much.”
Meng Jiahe offered comfort, unable to decipher Qiaoqiao’s emotions or to know what she might be thinking at that moment.
She only knew her own fear – fear that Qiaoqiao might not cope and fear that something might have happened to Boss Si.
“Yes, that’s right, it will be fine,” Sang Qiao said calmly, her gaze fixed on the road as she waited.
“You still have the child; you must be strong. We’ll wait together for Boss Si to return, don’t be afraid,” Meng Jiahe hugged her tightly.
Her heart also felt so tight it was almost suffocating, especially since they had just had their wedding a few days ago, which had been so warm.
And now, just days later, this had happened…
“Ah He, I’m okay,” Sang Qiao forced a slight smile, showing a faint grin.
Meng Jiahe felt distressed seeing it, but there was nothing she could do except wait for news.
Mrs. Si’s car was driving up and stopped by the curb at the bottom of the stairs.
The car window rolled down, and Mrs. Si’s eyes were swollen like walnuts, “Qiaoqiao, we’re leaving now.”
“Okay.” Sang Qiao stood up and was about to walk down the stairs.
Meng Jiahe immediately reached out to support Qiaoqiao, the image of Su Nuanying rolling down here still fresh in her mind. When they reached the car, she even opened the door for her.
Sang Qiao settled into the seat, while Meng Jiahe looked at her reluctantly, “Qiaoqiao, take good care of yourself. I will definitely look after the company well. Call me if you need anything.”
“Okay, you can go back now,” Sang Qiao waved her hand and said goodbye to Ah He.
The vehicle slowly started moving and maneuvered through the roads.
Though Mrs. Si was very heartbroken, she didn’t forget to tightly hold Qiaoqiao’s hand, encouraging her, “It’s okay, don’t think too much.”
“Mom, too,” Sang Qiao lightly nodded. Her mind buzzed, rendering her incapable of thinking deeply about anything.
“Okay.” Mrs. Si secretly wiped away her tears, feeling extremely apprehensive, her mind uncontrollably wandering toward dire possibilities.
It took them the whole morning to reach half of their journey. Considering that Qiaoqiao was still pregnant, Mrs. Si had the driver find a five-star hotel for a temporary rest.
“Qiaoqiao, mom is both hungry and tired. Should we eat something before we leave? The rescue team is there, and they will call us if there is any news. It doesn’t matter if we reach there by dinner.”
“Alright.” Even though Sang Qiao didn’t feel like eating and wanted to continue the journey, she couldn’t let Mrs. Si remain unfed, since there was only one car and driver.
Going on her own by taxi without waiting wouldn’t feel right to Mrs. Si.
Besides, there’s a saying that is quite true–it doesn’t really matter whether they arrived early or not.
It was just their anxious hearts that wanted to get to the scene sooner.
Eventually, they still booked a suite at the five-star hotel and ordered three dishes and a soup. Mrs. Si, wary of ordering anything too greasy, chose relatively light fare.
“Qiaoqiao, eat something. You’ll need strength when we get there,” Mrs. Si added food to Sang Qiao’s plate and utensils, showing extreme care.
“Okay.” Though Sang Qiao initially had no appetite, she was persuaded to eat a few more bites.
To encourage Qiaoqiao to eat more, Mrs. Si forced herself to eat a large bowl of rice, indicating that she was indeed hungry.
Sang Qiao forcibly ate half a bowl but couldn’t finish it. She looked up at Mrs. Si, indicating a desire to depart.
“Let’s rest for ten minutes before we go. Come sit here, the bed is really soft,” Mrs. Si said as she lay down on the bed, showing her fatigue.
“Okay.” Sang Qiao numbly complied.
As soon as ten minutes were up,
Mrs. Si really did take her to leave, restarting the journey for several more hours. By the time they reached their destination, it had completely darkened.
The scene was filled with rescue personnel conducting the operation.
Sang Qiao wanted to go in, but Mrs. Si grabbed her arm, “Let’s wait here. Inside has not been completely cleared yet; it’s not very safe.”
“I’ll be careful,” Sang Qiao’s eyes lifted slightly with determination.
“Qiaoqiao, you won’t be able to help inside, and the site is vast and hard to navigate. Just let the rescue team handle it.” Mrs. Si also wanted to go in, but Ah Li had already been within these ruins for four days!
Even if he had initially been alive, after four days without food or water, it was almost… too late.
She couldn’t let anything happen to Qiaoqiao.
Just then, Shangguan Yuan emerged from the site, filthy, “Qiaoqiao, listen to Mrs. Si and don’t go inside. The larger area has already been searched. Don’t worry, everything will be searched through in another half hour.”
“Have they not found Ah Li yet?” Upon hearing this, Mrs. Si’s heart chilled.
The search was almost complete. The few people they previously brought out showed no signs of life; she couldn’t help but think the worst.
