Chapter 309: Chapter 310: Tin Toy
“Come on, follow me,” Old Niu led Jiang Changhai into his own courtyard.
“What’s the good stuff? Bring it out for me to take a look,” Old Niu urged eagerly, still very trusting of the other’s judgement and intelligence.
Jiang Changhai set down his bundle, opened it, and pulled out a delicately crafted tin frog that looked strikingly realistic at first glance.
He twisted the winding key on the side of the frog and let it hop repeatedly in his hand.
“How about that? Brother, you’ve never seen anything like this, have you? Not even the Supply and Marketing Cooperative has this. It will sell like crazy. The kids won’t be able to walk past without stopping. Am I right, brother?”
Old Niu’s interest was immediately piqued.
He took the small toy from Jiang Changhai’s hands and inspected it, discovering that although the frog appeared to be simply made of tin, it actually had a complex craftsmanship and was well-made.
He shook it, feeling its weight and knew it should be durable.
After all, if it’s for children to play with, it needs to be attractive to them as well as durable. It can’t just break after a couple of days, or else the parents would surely come looking for him.
Jiang Changhai quietly sat there drinking water, making no effort to rush him.
After checking it over, Old Niu was very pleased with the little frog, “Nice, brother, where did you get such good stuff?”
“Didn’t I work at the transport factory? A few days ago, I went to Haicheng with the truck and specifically bought some in-demand items. What do you think, do you want it?” Jiang Changhai asked.
“Yes, what’s the price for a brother?” Old Niu asked directly.
“Twenty bucks each, just enough to make some labor money. You can sell it for at least twenty-three or four. I also have little trains, same quality as this frog, sturdy and durable. I simply work at the factory and have no time to sell them myself, otherwise, I would really like to go out and sell them myself,” Jiang Changhai said regretfully.
These little trains and frogs were selling exceptionally well in Haicheng, and it was the first time Jiang Changhai had seen them. Remote small towns like theirs didn’t have these at all.
The others at his factory resold daily necessities and household items, which were more regulated, harder to sell, and didn’t fetch a good price.
He found the profits too small, so he didn’t buy those.
Furthermore, rarity adds value, trading in items the town didn’t have made for better sales prospects and higher selling prices, so after some consideration, he bought these rare and precious gadgets.
Being a breadwinner, he knew too well that women and children’s money was rather easy to earn.
When Old Niu heard Jiang Changhai’s price, he started laughing, “Haha, Changhai, be satisfied. Working in the factory, getting supplied food, that’s quite prestigious, much better than us skulking around making money.”
He thought it wasn’t too expensive and could definitely make a tidy profit with just a resale.
“But even then, it’s not as carefree as it seems. Once you’re in the factory, you lose your freedom; it’s no longer about doing what you want when you want,” Jiang Changhai flattering Old Niu.
Sure enough, Old Niu’s smile grew even brighter upon hearing this.
“Alright, Changhai, let’s get down to business. How many toys do you have? I’ll take them all,” Old Niu asked generously.
“Brother, I only have fourteen. The toys aren’t cheap and I didn’t have much capital so I didn’t buy too many,” Jiang Changhai said as he opened his bundle and took out the toys one by one.
“Fine, I’ll take all fourteen. Fourteen times twenty is two hundred and eighty. Wait here, I’ll go inside and get the money,” Old Niu said and went into the house.
