Chapter 2407: The Qian Family Comes Looking for Trouble

Dinner that night was not a joyous affair. Liu Fen forced herself to eat a little before leaving with the child.

Qian’e was acting a little out of sorts. She drank at one side alone and seemed to have something on her mind. Qiao Mei took note of this and told Xia Zhe to sleep with the children tonight. She wanted to have a good chat with Qian’e.

“What ‘s wrong with you tonight?” Qiao Mei asked curiously.

“Me? I’m fine!” Qian’e said as she sat unsteadily on the bed.

“I don’t believe you. You must be hiding something from me. Are there still secrets that you can’t tell me?” Qiao Mei asked.

Qian’e sighed. It was not that she did not want to tell Qiao Mei but Qiao Mei was not in a much better situation now. She did not want to cause Qiao Mei any more trouble because of her trivial issues.

“Tell me!” Qiao Mei said anxiously.

Qian’e grabbed onto Qiao Mei unsteadily and said, “Alright, alright, alright! I’ll tell you! It’s… it’s about my family.”

“What?” Hearing that, Qiao Mei lost focus for a moment. After she gathered her thoughts, she said, “What do the Qian family members want with you?”

“Apart from asking me for money, what else can they want?” Qian’e said disdainfully.

“Just do what you’ve been doing all this while and say no. It’s been so long that I’ve almost forgotten their existence,” Qiao Mei said.

Qian’e did not want to be pressured by the Qian family in this manner, but the Qian family members liked to go to the factory to cause trouble. Every time they went, they would weep and wail about how they had not been doing well all these years and that it was Qian’e who had abandoned them, that she was unfilial to her parents and disobedient to her elders, and so on.

The factory had many employees and there were already all kinds of rumors going around. Most of the current employees were new joinees and did not know anything about Qian’e and her past. From what they saw and heard, their impression of Qian’e was that she was someone who did not care about her own Qian family.

“What can I do? Am I supposed to go around telling everyone that I’m actually the innocent party? There’s nothing I can do… I can only use money to avoid trouble. Now is a good time for us to earn money. What if the employees go on strike because of me? If the reputation of the company is tarnished, no one will want to work with me anymore,” Qian’e said helplessly.

“Then what do you intend to do now?” Qiao Mei asked.

Qian’e laughed and leaned close to Qiao Mei’s ear as she said proudly, “So… I transfer 15 dollars to my family every month! I give her the same amount of money which my parents and uncles give her to show their filial piety. I always tell her that it’s not good for me to cross the line. As a junior, I can’t give her more money than what my elders give her. She can’t say anything about that.”

Even so, that was a lot of money which Old Madam Qian received every month. Qiao Mei felt that the old lady was getting too good a deal.

“Does it work? They are satisfied with this? If you can get away with just giving them 15 dollars, it won’t have been so difficult for you back then,” Qiao Mei said.

Qian’e gave Qiao Mei a thumbs up and said, “As expected of you! Of course that’s not all! They want to take over the factory! Fortunately, the factory is yours! Otherwise, they would have eaten me alive by now!”

Qian’e had many family relatives and these people had all come looking for her during this period of time. All of them wanted her to give them a managerial position in the factory. She counted that she had met more than 30 people! She had never even met some of them before. She wondered how much effort Old Madam Qian had put in to seek out these people one by one.

“This is your family issue, so I can’t say anything. I’ll support you in whatever you plan to do,” Qiao Mei said.

“I don’t want to stay in the capital anymore. This place is full of blood-sucking leeches! If I continue to stay in the capital, they will definitely harass me all the time. One of these days, they won’t be satisfied with just money and will want to take everything I have! I want to go to Guang City! To another place! Anywhere! I’ll bring money to open a factory there!” Qian’e said agitatedly.

“Stop and just hang on for a moment. If you bring so many businesses to Guang City, then what am I supposed to do in the capital? In that case, most of my businesses would have to move to Guang City!” Qiao Mei said.

Qian’e would never leave Qiao Mei to start her own business. It was all thanks to Qiao Mei that she was currently doing well in her career. If not for Qiao Mei, she might be living a very tough life now.

However, what else could she do if she did not leave the capital?

“We still have to consider this matter at length. Have a good rest here for now. There’s no hurry,” Qiao Mei said.

Qian’e nodded and fell asleep on one side of the bed. She did not sleep well even while she was dreaming. Her brows were furrowed and her body was stiff.

“Sigh…” Qiao Mei sighed and covered Qian’e with the blanket. Every family had their own difficulties and every person had tough days.

The moment Qiao Mei stepped out of the room, she saw Xia Zhe standing at the door. He looked at her and asked, “Is her issue already resolved?”

“Why… are you so concerned about her today?” Qiao Mei deliberately looked jealous and said to Xia Zhe.
