Chapter 848: Chapter 847: The Second Trapped Sky Curtain!
The Mad Immortals of the Immortal Dao Court are vastly different from the Shadow Battle Guards of the Sword Immortal Tomb. The number of Mad Immortals is far fewer because every Mad Immortal is in the Dragon Emperor Realm!
However, the two share one common trait–neither lives long.
No matter the realm one reaches, lifespan limitations always exist. Lifespan limits exist in the Dragon Vein Realm, the Dragon God Realm, and even in the Dragon Emperor Realm.
However, the higher one’s cultivation base, the longer their lifespan becomes.
The lifespan of someone in the Dragon God Realm is roughly several thousand years. The reason it’s said to be “several thousand” is because it’s not definite; it’s only an approximation.
Some people may acquire extremely precious rare treasures to lengthen their lifespan, granting them additional years to live.
Others, due to various issues such as soul injuries or lifespan consumption, may live considerably shorter lives.
Take Su Han as an example. Although he is merely in the Dragon God Realm, his consumption of countless blood crystals has resulted in a lifespan reaching hundreds of thousands of years!
The Dragon God Realm’s lifespan is roughly several thousand years, while someone at the early stage of the Dragon Emperor Realm would typically have about thirty thousand years of lifespan.
If they successfully break through to a higher realm, their lifespan increases further. If they fail to do so, they merely await the passage of thirty thousand years until their death approaches.
The Mad Immortals of the Immortal Dao Court are just such individuals.
They cannot break through to another realm, and their lifespan is nearing its limit!
In this sense, they share some resemblance to those in the Pseudo-Emperor Realm.
Although the Pseudo-Emperor Realm is divided into early, mid, and later stages, once one becomes a Pseudo-Emperor, regardless of their specific phase within the realm, their lifespan is capped at a mere thousand years.
This means that the two Mad Immortals before them, together with their lifetimes in other realms, have lived for at least thirty thousand years!
Their era predates even Nangong Chenfeng’s. To put things in perspective, the four Palace Masters of the One Slash Palace have yet to live for over ten thousand years.
Desperate retaliation before death is practically emblematic of those in the Pseudo-Emperor Realm and these Mad Immortals. It’s from this phenomenon that the term “Mad Immortal” originates.
Normally, few would dare provoke such individuals. Even those in the Pseudo-Emperor Realm avoid provoking them, let alone Dragon Emperor Realm Mad Immortals.
It’s not just about the possibility of them breaking through; their short lifespans also push them into insanity. And given that slim chance they might break through, who would dare take the risk?
The Pseudo-Emperor Realm is different, with no hope of breakthrough and a fixed lifespan of a thousand years. But Mad Immortals–until the moment of death–who can predict what they might do?
Thus, wherever Mad Immortals go, anyone they encounter immediately steps aside, bowing to them with the utmost respect.
But today is different. These two Mad Immortals are facing something unprecedented.
They’ve encountered Nangong Chenfeng.
The two hid in the void–not to ambush Nangong Chenfeng, but having just arrived, intending to pursue Su Han.
Unexpectedly, before they could make a move, they were discovered by Nangong Chenfeng, who struck out with a slash from the void.
“Since you’re already here, why hide in secret?” Nangong Chenfeng asked coolly.
Upon hearing this, the two both snorted coldly, “We’ve merely arrived moments ago. Why would we hide? Four Palace Master, your words are overly arrogant, aren’t they?”
“Arrogant?”
Nangong Chenfeng furrowed his brow and immediately responded coldly, “You two–what do you think you are? From the day I emerged until now, this is the first time anyone has dared call me arrogant.”
After finishing his words, Nangong Chenfeng suddenly smiled sinisterly and said, “Alright, since you call me arrogant, I will show you what arrogance truly means!”
“Boom!”
He slashed again, and the terrifying sword light manifested, charging straight towards the two Mad Immortals.
“Nangong Chenfeng! We have no intention of being your enemies. Don’t go overboard!” one of them shouted.
“Overboard? I’ve already gone overboard. What can you do about it?”
Nangong Chenfeng said coldly, “Ruo Zhe that overestimate themselves! Do you think that just because your time is almost up, others fear you? Do you think I, Nangong Chenfeng, fear you? With so little time left, why must you insist on stirring up trouble? Pieces of scum like you–I kill them without hesitation!”
The faces of the two Mad Immortals darkened to an almost pitch-black hue. Lifespan was their most sensitive subject, and Nangong Chenfeng had hit them with insult after insult, bluntly reminding them of their dwindling time. If it were anyone else, they would’ve already killed the offender.
From Nangong Chenfeng’s words it was clear that their earlier remark about “arrogance” had truly enraged him.
Thinking back, Nangong Chenfeng really had remained calm and composed throughout his entire journey–never arrogant.
Ever since becoming Mad Immortals, even those within the Immortal Dao Court avoided them, fearing any mishap that might provoke their ire.
Even the higher-ups could be said to indulge them. While not providing much in the way of resources, they rarely contradicted them. If these two said “one,” the upper echelons would rarely say “two.”
Over time, this fostered an arrogant and domineering demeanor in them.
Addressing Nangong Chenfeng as they did was, in their minds, routine. Yet unexpectedly, the single word “arrogant” had been enough to ignite such fury in Nangong Chenfeng.
“Boom!”
The earth-shattering sword light seemed to stretch endlessly across the sky, its inky black aura plunging the void into darkness.
The faces of the two Mad Immortals shifted dramatically as they finally understood the unimaginable terror emanating from Nangong Chenfeng’s blade.
This was their first battle against Nangong Chenfeng–and the first time they realized how utterly different Nangong Chenfeng was from other early-stage Dragon Emperor Realm cultivators!
“What are you two standing around for?!”
One of them turned to Han Yunlai and Liushui Qingya, snorting coldly, “We were invited here by you. You two aren’t going to make a move now?”
Furrowing their brows slightly, Han Yunlai and Liushui Qingya showed no hesitation. They shared a common goal–to kill Su Han.
Without another thought, both acted simultaneously, launching themselves at Nangong Chenfeng.
“You brat–”
Nangong Chenfeng, immersed in battle, still managed to shout to Su Han, “Yuani Ling has been intercepted by the Xuanyuan Family, Moo Qinghai and Du Yuehui have been held back by the Seven-Colored Famous Bird, and now I’ve held off four for you. If you can’t escape today, you’re not worthy of my niece!”
Upon hearing that, Su Han nearly stumbled.
Not worthy of his niece?
Su Han instantly thought of Nangong Yu, and as her image flashed in his mind, Su Han almost coughed up blood.
What nonsense was this?
Clearly, this was a perilous situation teeming with murderous intent and dire threats, yet Nangong Chenfeng’s sudden declaration had completely shattered the tension.
Nevertheless, Su Han didn’t dwell on it. At this moment, a golden light barrier appeared before him once again.
This was, unmistakably, the second Trapped Sky Curtain that Du Yuehui had previously mentioned.
