Chapter 380: Chapter 378: Cage Writing Building 3 (Not for the Faint-Hearted)
The entire 68th floor, a nearly 3,000 square meter area, was divided into two parts.
One half of the area was piled up with densely packed bodies that were devoid of any blood color.
These bodies were naked and their figures were grotesquely large and bloated.
Strangely, all were bald, their skin cracked and covered with fresh scabs.
At the end of the row of bodies, there was a metal conveyor belt running steadily, emitting a slight “creak creak” noise.
An armed man wearing a gas mask was sitting in a not-so-large forklift, slowly loading the stacked bodies onto the conveyor belt one by one.
At the end of the conveyor belt, there was a black wall.
From inside the wall, various noises and voices could be heard.
The bodies were being transported through a hole in the middle of the wall.
“Mom, there’s another compartment inside.”
“Go take a look,” said Jiang Yan, taking a deep breath.
She suddenly felt as if she had stumbled into a horror movie in the middle of the night.
The sight of those bodies under the dim light was already frightfully unsettling, let alone the other side–
Jiang Yan tried her best to suppress her imagination from running wild.
Hua Bao once again shrank its body and found a secret door on the wall, squeezing through a super fine crack and into the room.
As soon as its head entered, Hua Bao felt a wave of heat mixed with a strong stench of blood hitting its face.
The temperature in this room was clearly several degrees higher, and it was brightly lit.
Several barrels for burning oil were placed on the floor, the source of the light and warmth coming from these barrels.
Hua Bao slowly stretched its body from the size of a needle point to the height of a normal person.
Seeing the scene before its eyes clearly, it was completely shocked.
Jiang Yan outside was also completely shocked.
The room was filled with dark red and bright red colors.
If it weren’t for the fact that there were bodies on the conveyor belt, Jiang Yan would have thought she had wandered into a pre-apocalypse industrial slaughterhouse.
Coming off the conveyor belt was another one.
Only this conveyor belt was wider and moved more slowly.
Four or five fully armed individuals stood on either side of the belt, each holding a gleaming knife in their hands.
With their practiced movements, a body was quickly dissected into smaller pieces according to different parts and slid into storage boxes next to the belt.
Their proficiency was no less than that of a skilled butcher.
Throughout the entire process, not a single Bone Chopper was used, yet all the joints were easily disarticulated.
At the edge of the conveyor belt, there were two grooved channels with a slope to them.
Some of the uncoagulated blood was flowing towards the storage boxes along these channels.
At the end of the storage boxes, a man was responsible for packing the dissected pieces and separately extracted fat with a vacuum sealer.
Another man was in charge of sorting the packaged two-legged sheep meat into large storage bins according to category.
Every time a bin was filled, he would press a button nearby.
Soon, the storage bin would disappear on the spot.
There was another man responsible for collecting the extraneous, garbage-laden intestines and stomachs and placing them uniformly into a storage bin.
Apparently due to a lack of food consumption, these intestines and stomachs were almost all shriveled.
That storage bin would also disappear upon pressing a button just the same.
“Hua Bao, go there and have a look,” Jiang Yan’s body was already covered in goosebumps, yet she still endured the fear and revulsion, sending Hua Bao to investigate the area where the storage bin disappeared.
If her memory of the blueprint was correct, that should be the elevator area for the entire tower.
But at this moment, looking over there, no elevator doors could be seen, only several thick chains.
“Okay, Mom.” Hua Bao scurried over in an instant.
“Mom, all four elevators in the building have been dismantled.”
“Hmm. I saw.”
Uncharacteristic of the layouts of many high-rise office buildings before the apocalypse, the elevator shafts in Yunding Tower were situated on the edge of the building.
Now, the area for the elevator and ropes looked as if it had been hit by a drilling hole, dark and empty.
Only one elevator was still operating with a “squeak squeak” noise.
Jiang Yan’s brows furrowed.
Such an assembly line and elevator were not something just anyone could set up.
Given the ability to do so, what was the purpose of placing the control room here?
“Mom, it seems different on the lower floors.” Hua Bao, with sharp eyes, glanced down through the large hole and exclaimed, “Shall we go down and take a look now?”
“Damn, my feet are numb from standing!” A complaint sounded from the conveyor belt nearby.
Perhaps it was because of the mask that the voice was somewhat muffled,
Without even thinking, Jiang Yan said directly, “Hua Bao, go back first. We’ll go down later.”
“Okay, Mom.”
“Be careful.” Jiang Yan was a bit worried.
She knew Hua Bao’s capabilities.
But what she had seen tonight was too bizarre.
“Don’t worry, Mom. I am invisible; they won’t notice me.” Hua Bao slowly walked back and then stopped at the control area of the “conveyor belt.”
“Number One, we’ve barely started; we’ve got a whole night’s work ahead of us!” a man’s voice came through.
The voice was equally unclear.
“I feel like I’m going to lose it. If I’d known it was for this, I would have rather chopped off my own hand!” After the man finished speaking, he tremblingly tossed a head with bulging eyes to the side.
“Shh, keep it down.”
“Afraid of what, we’re not at the base!”
“Heh, just think of it as if it’s pork.”
“Exactly, Number Three is right. Otherwise, how could you have survived at the base? For all we know, one of these could be us.”
Listening to their conversation, Jiang Yan’s brows wrinkled slightly.
Was it because of the masks?
Why does it seem like everyone is slurring their speech?
If you don’t listen carefully, you can hardly make out what they’re saying.
“I’ve become numb to it anyway. But how long do we have to keep skulking around, killing?”
“Looks like it’s going to be a while.”
“No choice, the pipes are too small, we can’t get the equipment through.”
“Those meteorites are terrifying. They might look inert, but if one actually hits us here, in such a high building, there’s only death! ”
“It’ll be over soon. Once we’ve cultivated the batch above, we can return to the base.”
“I actually think it’s pretty good here. If we go back to the base, do you think we’ll still be alive? Next time what we lose might not be just half a tongue.”
Jiang Yan: “…”
“Damn it! Why don’t we just escape to Yaoben Base!” a man said, cutting off a chunk of yellow fat from a plump belly in front of him and tossing it backhandedly into the burning oil drum nearby.
The flames in the oil drum dimmed a little, probably because there was less fuel.
Soon, a sizzling sound came from within.
Along with it, a pungent smell and billows of thick smoke arose.
“Damn, why does this fat smell so bad when it burns!”
“That’s what happens when you inject hormones and viruses. Otherwise, do you think they could get so fat in such a short time without food and drink…”
