Chapter 34: Wanting to Make Money, Setting Up a Stewed Meat Stall

Gu Jin was physically stronger, which was good news. She did not need help in setting up her business of selling stewed dishes in town now.

Initially, she still had the thought of getting help from Gu Jiajie, but now, she could do it alone.

Gu Jin returned to the kitchen. Her first task was to stew the wild boar’s head.

After she did the cleaning and cut the head into smaller chunks, she placed them in the pot, followed by the ingredients for seasoning and water before she put on the lid to cook the dish.

Stewing required high heat at first, then low heat. Only by keeping the heat at the right temperature would it bring out the flavor and aroma of the stewed meat.

Gu Jin sat in front of the stove to keep an eye on the fire, adding more firewood when necessary.

She had come up with the idea of selling stewed meat in the town much earlier.

A wealthy man in the future would one day say that a person could become rich by setting up a stall in the street during the eighties. However, many people were wary of the idea. Many were skeptical that one could make a lot of money by trading stocks in the nineties, and they were wary that one could make money by setting up an online store in the twentieth century, yet many did not try.

Now that she had returned to the year 1986, the quickest way to earn money was to set up a street stall.

It did not matter when; food was an essential aspect of life. Hence, she wanted to sell food.

Hearing the boiling sound in the pot, Gu Jin did not add any more firewood but allowed it to stew under low heat.

She got to her feet and cut the intestines, as well as the liver, to size.

By the time she was done, the stewed wild boar head in the pot had been thoroughly cooked. The meat became tender under the low heat, and its savory aroma spread throughout the kitchen.

Gu Jin placed the liver and intestines that she had just cut into a bucket at the side. Then she placed a large basin in front of the stove and transferred the stewed wild boar head over.

The aroma of the stewed wild boar head had completely drowned out that of the braised meat. In fact, its aroma was a lot stronger, so much so that it spread into the courtyard outside.

The few villagers who were there to buy meat smelled the tempting aroma. They started to drool before they even had a chance to taste it.

“What dish is your family cooking again, Chen Hong?” someone could not help but ask.

Chen Hong was drooling too. She knew that Gu Jin was cooking something with the wild boar’s head and intestines. Little did she expect that it would be so aromatic.

She swallowed hard after she received money from the person who had spoken just now. “I wonder what Gu Jin is cooking in the kitchen. The sky is getting dark soon. Be safe on your way home.”

Her last sentence made it sound like she was telling the person, “It’s none of your business.”

That person took a basin of meat, spun around with a hiss, and left.

After the last villager left, Gu Dechang and Chen Hong could finally call it a day.

Gu Dechang wiped the sweat from his head. “How much did we earn?”

Chen Hong gave the small, half-filled pouch on the wooden plank a shake.

“It’s all in here,” Chen Hong said while her eyes looked into the kitchen.

Seeing that her daughter, Gu Minmin was already standing at the kitchen doorway, Chen Hong could no longer hold back her curiosity.

That aroma was driving her crazy

She shoved the money pouch into Gu Dechang’s bloodstained hands. “I’m going to check out what Gu Jin is cooking in the kitchen.”

Gu Dechang held the money pouch and glanced back at his father.

Even the old man could not resist the aroma that was coming from the kitchen, and he put his finger to his chin. “Let us have a look in the kitchen too.”

Of course, Gu Dechang would not say no to the old man, so off the father and son went toward the kitchen.

“What is this aroma? I could even smell it from afar. It’s so good!”

Gu Jiajie had returned from delivering the wild boar’s hind leg to the village chief. He exclaimed loudly as soon as he stepped into the courtyard.
