Chapter 1547: Divine Region (Part 1)
Saleen had not been pulling a simple threat back there. A seed of fear had been planted into the mind of the goddess’s follower. Thundering Sound skills were available only to Saleen, but Nailisi had a degree of mastering of lighting skills as well.
If Nailisi faced that follower of the goddess, she would easily be able to expose that follower simply by using lightning powers, enabling Nailisi to kill said follower in a single shot.
As for the other 11, Saleen deemed it unwise to make a move against them before everyone else.
The heroic spirits in the cemetery launched their final suicidal attack. They sang a requiem, which was what their friends and families all those years ago had sung to them when the cemetery was built.
Saleen saw the Nature Legion warriors and lightning warriors fall one after another. He was stunned. What surprised him was that the warriors of the Nature Legion were capable of resurrection, and they were quickly revived right after death.
His lightning warriors, on the other hand, had to be returned to his magic amplifier before Dante was able to revive them using divine spells. The difference was significant.
Saleen made sure to look unfazed, but he slowed his rate at firing the balls of lightning. The Well of Stars was cast again, shrouding the area within 100 meters radius.
He picked graves that were in pristine conditions and put them in his magic amplifier while the Well of Stars was in effect.
He had no intention of doing the same thing with the graves of the heroes. He simply thought that given how the graves were capable of absorbing power of the Source of the plane, there would have been a lot of secrets in them. If he was able to get to the bottom of it, it would help him a great deal to get to level 18.
He was no longer in a state where he could advance simply by putting in more time to train. The easiest way was to absorb a level 18 divine persona, which would enable him to master the power of rules within. The best candidate for him to do so with was none other than the goddess.
However, the goddess would lose everything if she were robbed of her divine persona. She was a god, not a human, after all.
Saleen took one grave after another and formulated plans while he was at it. He threw the graves into the Lightning Moon to be refined further. He was about to craft a piece of one-time-use magic equipment, with which he would use in the next battle.
One hundred and twenty graves of the heroes were arranged into a ring, which was purified by the power of lightning in the Lightning Moon. The spaces within the graves were installed with humungous magic arrays.
The magic arrays were magic amplification arrays, which was how Saleen crafted his magic amplifier. However, the amplification relied on the abilities of the graves for absorbing power of the Source.
Every single grave had a huge space, so Saleen was not discrete while he crafted magic arrays in the graves’ internal spaces, not worried if the followers were to be able to see anything.
As time passed, the powers of the heroes waned and their numbers dwindled. After he had accumulated an ample number of graves, he summoned his other followers from his magic amplifier and told them to help the lightning warriors fight.
Graves within the cemetery fell one after another, shattering and breaking down into elemental particles. The heroes had no place to return to, so they had to truly fight to their deaths.
However, given the significant gap between combat prowess of both parties, their suicidal attempts seemed futile.
There was no sorrow or dejection as the heroes charged with unfazed expression at the Nature Legion and the lightning warriors. The huge wooden spears held by the warriors of the Nature Legion broke one heroic spirit after another. The lightning warriors, on the other hand, combined 30 to 50 of them into huge machines, consuming and tearing the heroic spirits apart.
The heroic spirits had all given up resisting, and they were simply walking to their deaths.
They saw that the general’s grave—a symbol of hope to them—was razed. The woman that emerged from the grave looked unfettered, and she held the head of the general in her hand.
Singiles held onto the set of godly armor that belonged to the general as he followed the goddess, feeling awkward.
Saleen waved and Singiles walked towards him. Saleen threw the godly armor in the Lightning Moon. When Saleen took the armor out again, Singiles found that it had become something that he was able to equip himself with.
Godly items had weapon spirits. When the general died, said weapon spirit adamantly refused to let Singiles wear it.
Saleen paid no heed to the weapon spirit wishes. To him, it was only a piece of equipment, and he did not need anything useless.
The Lightning Moon wiped out everything on the godly armor, which included the broken weapon spirit. Singiles still had a long way to go. If he were to keep training and advancing, a new weapon spirit would be born in the armor.
The general’s blade was worn on Singiles’ back. The weapon spirit of the blade was destroyed during the battle, so Singiles would have no problems using it.
The goddess kept her word and let Singiles inherit the general’s lineage.
“Are you ready, Saleen?” The goddess did not think that bit of favor was enough to have Saleen give up the entire continent as well as the divine kingdom. Both of them were humongous treasure troves, especially to a mage.
“I am. Are you letting me pick my spot?”
“Indeed. That will be your last bit of luck. From here on out, what is mine is mine, and what is yours is yours. You have fulfilled the mission of resurrecting me, and we’re even from here on out,” the goddess answered.
“Well then, we’ll do it at your temple,” Saleen responded.
The goddess nodded. “If that would be your choice, let’s go.”
“After you.” Saleen sent his followers back into his magic amplifier after he said that, and summoned the lightning warriors back into the Lightning Moon as well. Dante returned to its position in the Lightning Moon. It felt rather exciting, as only it, Nailisi, and the Winged Skull were allowed to participate in that battle. None of the others were deemed to be qualified.
That was because the upcoming battle was single combat. Dante was Saleen’s slave, while Nailisi and the Winged Skull were Saleen’s bonded creatures.
The Violet Angel would have been qualified as well, but it was not of high enough level and was lacking in powers. It would simply be serving its head on a silver platter if it were to do so.
The goddess’s followers were surprised that Saleen picked the goddess’ temple for the location of the battle.
They then realized soon enough that it was the first time the two were going to fight to the death. Doing so anywhere on the mainland would have caused untold numbers of cities to be destroyed.
Saleen was reluctant to get the people of the land into his fight, and the goddess felt the same as well. Regardless of who would have emerged victorious, the winner would have been the one taking all of that.
Neither of them spoke to the other during the journey. The goddess’s speed increased, and she gradually left her followers behind. She returned to the center of the desert before the others, opening her temple and waiting for Saleen and the others to arrive.
In her perspective, Saleen was the one who resurrected her. According to the rules of gods of nature, she would have been forbidden from killing Saleen. However, Saleen killed her oracles, and that gave her the excuse of exacting her revenge.
But then again, there was no vengeance between her and Saleen, only sheer conflict of interest.
The strongest mage throughout the entire Myers Mainland had not been her all those years ago, but she deemed it impossible for someone else to claim that title in the current era.
The goddess had never truly seen herself as a god, as she was capable of manipulating magical powers.
Saleen was seen in the sky. There was nothing behind him, unlike how it used to be. Back then, he would have brought a group of pesky beings with him whenever he came to places like this.
The goddess looked at Saleen and said, “Saleen, we will commence battle once we enter these gates. Have you thought things through?”
Saleen simply nodded. The goddess went through the gates right away. It was the space of her temple. She was the one with the advantage of fighting in such a place.
Saleen turned around and looked at the sky, smirking before unleashing powers of the Book of Gaia. Countless particles of black sand took to the air and surged inside the gates of the temple. He went through the gates, and the gates were sealed shut by the black sand behind him.
The black sand was turned into stone in an instant, becoming a cliff and sealing the gates of the huge temple. Saleen placed 12 Thundering Phantasms on the cliff.
Regardless of who attacked the cliff, they would have had to look into it. Saleen’s Thundering Phantasms were no longer specters that were incapable of real attacks. They had become real constructs capable of wielding level 16 powers.
Saleen had no intention of using the illusory constructs to gang up on the goddess. They were fighting in her temple after all, and such attempts would have been pointless.
The Thundering Phantasms would have moved too slowly for their attacks to work, at least compared to the goddess. Unless they were fighting in some special, cramped space, the Thundering Phantasms could not have possibly been used for attacking the goddess.
Saleen wanted to win using his powers, so much so that he dropped both Sika and Lex off on the way, forbidding them from coming along.
It was a battle that would determine their destinies. If he were to win, then he would become the overlord of the entire Myers Mainland. if he were to lose, all of his past efforts would have been in vain. He was sure that the goddess would kill him after that, although she would only kill the one who resurrected her reluctantly.
If he were to be able to escape, then the goddess would give up pursuing him. But then again, if he were to end up severely injured, it would be impossible for him to escape the goddess. Killing him would be a far safer choice than letting him go.
Saleen walked into the space of the goddess’ temple and heard growls of beasts from afar. The space had become a world. The goddess was not all that far away, as she was simply standing in midair, looking at Saleen, who had just come inside the temple.
Saleen did not know what to think when he saw the familiar face of the goddess.
He had been hard at work for years, escaping death time and again, and finally, it was time for the final showdown. From the time he received the Ring of Gifts, to the time letting Nailisi take the goddess’ visage, it seemed as if his fate had always been entwined with that of the goddess.
The goddess watched Saleen, who looked like he was 20 years old. However, what it actually meant was he had advanced to the rank of sorcerer before he was 20 years old.
He wore a black magic robe and his hair was left flowing in the breeze. A huge ring hovered behind him, which was crafted using the necklace as the base. However, she was no longer able to sense the piece of equipment that she had crafted personally. The necklace had been completely reworked by Saleen.
The huge Lightning Moon hovered above the mage who looked like a young man. The Lightning Moon was a living construct, and the three-headed and six-armed god was in the Lightning Moon waiting to do battle.
“So, you intend to win fair and square? Was that why you chose this place to be the battlefield? You indeed are juvenile…” the goddess thought derisively.
The goddess sighed and cast her first divine spell at Saleen before he could do anything.
The entire space within the temple lit up. The sky was no longer dark and gloomy. Green plants emerged from the ground and kept growing, reaching heights of thousands of meters and yet, had no intention of stopping their growth.
