Chapter 38: Keeping Secrets

The butler answered truthfully, “Mister, Madame went out after you left for your morning jog.”

After hearing this, Mu Beiting pursed his thin lips, and he asked with an impassive expression, “Where did she go?”

The butler replied, “Madame said that she had gone out to find a house for her parents. She said that she wouldn’t be back for lunch at noon or dinner at night.”

Upon hearing this, Mu Beiting ended the conversation, picked up his chopsticks, and gracefully began to eat his breakfast.

Today, however, Mu Beiting ate much less than usual. After having a bowl of porridge, he went upstairs.

Why did he think that because Madame wasn’t there, he’d had no appetite?

Therefore, after the agent showed her the house, she paid the rent immediately, and went back to the hotel with her mother, packed up all their belongings, and

they moved in.

Father Ye followed Ye Anxin into the house, carrying some stuff. He couldn’t help but cover his nose. He glanced around, frowned, and said with dissatisfaction, “Anxin, I have raised you for 20 years, yet you are going to let me live in this kind of place. No, I don’t want to live here. I don’t know how long this house has been empty, but it reeks of mold. If I have to live here for a long time, I’ll get sick.”

Ye Anxin put down the things she was carrying and explained, “There is a moldy smell in here because the house has been closed for too long. Mom and I will clean the house later and open the windows and doors for ventilation. The moldy smell will soon disappear. Although the house isn’t big, it’s enough for you and mom to live in.”

After listening to her, Mother Ye quickly grasped an important point. She grabbed her hand and asked in confusion, “Anxin, you aren’t going to live with us?”

Ye Anxin paused, and her eyes flickered because of her guilty conscience. She stammered, “Mom, I…I’m not going to live here. This place is too far from my school, and it wouldn’t be convenient. I’m going to live with Yueyue from now on.”

After hearing that, Mother Ye not only didn’t believe her, but her suspicions deepened. She asked solemnly, “Anxin, tell your mother the truth. Where have you been living for the past few days? Who exactly is the man who came to take away your luggage the other day? What is your relationship with him? I can tell he’s of no ordinary status just from his clothes. Except for Mu Rufeng, how did you meet such an affluent person? How come, as your mother, I’ve never met him?”

“Mom…!” Ye Anxin suddenly panicked upon being repeatedly interrogated by Mother Ye! Furthermore, she had never been good at lying, especially to her mother.

Truthfully, it wasn’t that she didn’t want to tell her mother about her marrying Mu Beiting, but Mu Beiting’s identity was simply too special. She didn’t tell her parents because, first of all, she was afraid of scaring them. Second of all, she knew her father. If she let him find out that she was married to Mu Beiting, she didn’t know what stupid things he would do. Third of all, Mu Beiting had never mentioned her family and seemed to have no plans to see her parents at all. If she abruptly revealed their relationship, she was afraid it would affect him in a negative way.

She had too many worries involved with this marriage, and that was why she kept the matter a secret from her parents.
