Chapter 813: Chapter 638 Great Tengu_2
“Heh, a bunch of fools. Did you really think I was just a part split off from myself?”
The blood-red figure opened its mouth, the sound of its laughter chilling to the bone.
“Haha.”
After speaking, the corners of his mouth cracked open, his jaws stretching to an unimaginable angle, and then he swallowed the head of the White Wolf Tengu whole!
Crunch. Crunch.
Gulp.
After devouring the White Wolf Tengu, the blood-red figure’s body began to regenerate rapidly before their eyes. Shattered internal organs were restored, the gaping hole in his torso sealed closed, and his other eye regenerated anew.
Then he turned his gaze to the others.
“You’re nothing more than food I cultivated. It’s time to return the power that belongs to me!”
He stepped forward, and under the horrified gazes of the others, he devoured the remaining five Divine Masters one by one.
When the last Divine Master died, the blood-red figure’s body was almost completely restored, even the top of his head now bore long, flowing black hair.
Yet, his body remained fully crimson, devoid of skin, resembling a skinned, wild beast.
“Dead?!”
“One of them actually died?!”
A glint of savagery flashed in his eyes. Behind him, a long tail materialized, splitting apart as it extended. At the end of each tail, faint faces could be seen, faces that once belonged to the five Divine Masters.
“At last, I can shed that decrepit, decayed body. This new body is stronger, more perfect. It might even rival those Western Transcendents with their bloodline powers.”
“Haha, 120 years of lifespan is enough. Enough for me to seek the unknown and ascend to greater heights.”
He strode forward, his naked body emanating an oppressive dark mist. The mist was pure evil–not the power of a Guardian Spirit, but energy sourced from the Land of Eternal Darkness.
When the mist dissipated, he now wore black samurai clothing. The outfit cloaked his entire body completely; not a single patch of skin, even on his hands or neck, was left exposed.
With a wave of his hand, the weapons that had belonged to the fallen Divine Masters flew into the air. The space trembled, and cracks formed across the surfaces of the weapons before they shattered.
Their essences were extracted and fused into a single piece of metal.
The metal shifted and changed shape, then molded itself over his entire face as it formed into a golden Tengu mask.
At the center of the mask’s forehead rested a delicate octagonal insignia, which, at a glance, seemed to be an amalgamation of countless patterns stacked together.
A single casual glance at it would pull one’s mind into endless depths.
The Great Tengu.
The highest title within the Tengu Shrine, and now, it was finally realized.
No one knew that many years ago, the Tengu Divine Master was already near completing the fusion of the eight branches. But at that time, his body had long reached the limits of its lifespan.
He even extended his life through fragmentation.
His frail body could no longer bear the integration of more power. Therefore, he transferred and dispersed pieces of his strength into the talented disciples of his subordinate branches.
He made these recipients of his power believe they were extensions of the original Tengu Divine Master’s body. But in truth, they were merely vessels for nurturing his power, to be consumed entirely when needed.
His new body, however, was cultivated from the Land of Eternal Darkness and was only recently completed in a barely usable state.
Although there were still many flaws, the self-awareness and unrest among the leaders of the other major branches forced the Tengu Divine Master to prematurely complete the fusion and devouring process.
Otherwise, if the six Divine Masters had seized the initiative, he might have permanently lost his power, leaving his reconstructed body to degrade and ultimately die.
In his newly reconstructed body, the essence of Konoha Tengu and another branch’s power was preserved. Yet, now the Tenshu Divine Master realized that his power was incomplete.
He was missing that of the Ran’ei Divine Master.
“Dead.”
“Who was it?”
He murmured to himself, and soon the gathered memories of those he had devoured converged in his mind, revealing the image of a young face.
“Roger… Funiu Sword Pavilion… Western bloodline.”
“Interesting.”
Taking a single step forward, the Tengu Divine Master’s body eerily bypassed caves and layers of barriers to appear abruptly at the summit of Mount Hiei.
The Tengu Divine Master stretched out his hands, and centered on the mountain peak, eight energy channels radiated outward into the distance.
The first mountain peak lit up–it had once belonged to the Konoha Tengu. Then the second, and the third.
Until all eight peaks were lit up, immense energy surged toward the heavens. At the same time, a colossal Onmyoji Array emerged in the skies above Mount Hiei.
The Onmyoji Array encompassed the entire region controlled by the Tengu Shrine, with the power of the eight branches flowing through it. Even with two branches destroyed, the stored energy beforehand ensured the array’s functionality remained unaffected.
Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!
The space violently trembled, and slowly, countless strands of black smoke emerged from the ground, seeping into valleys, rivers, and the cities under the Tengu Shrine’s jurisdiction.
Change began to take hold.
Trees and animals, as well as ordinary people dwelling in the cities, were all infused with energy from the Land of Eternal Darkness. But unlike before, this didn’t drive them into madness as mindless monsters intent on destruction.
Depending on their inherent strength–ordinary people to cultivators alike–the degree of their physical transformation varied. But without exception, they no longer resembled humans.
In appearance, they now closely resembled the denizens of the Land of Eternal Darkness.
“If destruction isn’t an option, then let us merge and become one, inseparable.”
The Tengu Divine Master’s eyes turned abyssal black. At that moment, a handsome young man dressed in black attire trimmed with silver patterns appeared beside him.
“Finally, I’m free of that place!”
Kurokawa laughed heartily. “So, what’s your next move?”
“Let us begin. We’ll invade more territories–until we overturn this entire world!” Kurokawa could hardly contain his excitement.
But as the last word left his lips, he suddenly realized the space around him had completely frozen. “What’s happening?”
Kurokawa quickly understood.
“What are you doing?”
“Don’t forget who supported you when…”
“Ahh…”
The compressed space imploded inward, and Kurokawa let out a miserable scream. Having recently left the Land of Eternal Darkness, he was at his weakest.
The Tengu Divine Master’s sudden assault caught him totally off guard, leaving him defenseless.
“This is my world.”
“What does it have to do with you?”
The Tengu Divine Master’s golden mask reflected an icy gleam as his fist clenched. Simultaneously, the compressed space tightened, crushing the trapped Kurokawa into a mess of pulp.
Plop. Plop.
Blackened blood and flesh splattered onto the mountain, causing the surrounding trees to immediately undergo dramatic transformations.
“My power has yet to return to its peak.”
The Tengu Divine Master looked in a certain direction. “Shuntsuki… Oh, Shuntsuki, had you only agreed to my proposal back then, I wouldn’t have wasted these decades.”
“What were you so afraid of?”
Leaping into the clouds, the Tengu Divine Master declared, “Before I go meet you, I must first address a minor inconvenience.”
“And let everyone know.”
“I… have returned!”
Meanwhile, Funiu Sword Pavilion remained oblivious. They had no idea that the one coming for vengeance was no longer the Divine Masters of the eight branches,
but the supreme powerhouse who had reconstructed his body and restored his strength.
Likewise, Roger was unaware of the events unfolding in the Everworld. He continued to gather his strength. Since Kaer Morhen’s inception, this had been Roger’s longest stay within the castle’s confines.
Time passed. Yuan Guanghai finally adapted to the explosive surge of power within his body, while Higurashi Chika also solidified her footing at the early stages of the Fourth Tier.
To understand their distribution of strength, Roger planned to take them to explore the Tower of Shadows. Aside from the two of them, Roger had intended to bring Henrik and Claudia along as well.
Unfortunately, Claudia seemed preoccupied with something, shutting herself in her room, while Henrik had become utterly consumed by the Graveyard Cemetery.
To be honest, Roger couldn’t tell whether Henrik’s dedication stemmed from professionalism or some unspeakable ulterior motive.
Ahem, real-life live-action drama, perhaps…
