Chapter 49: Surrounded

“Okay.” Chu Chen had long sensed the danger that loomed in the air and would not let his guard down. Although he had yet to have expanded his spiritual consciousness, his mental state was on a high alert, ready to have dealt with any sudden changes.

In fact, the little hamster was right. Along the way, apart from the ice fanged rat, they also ran into snow rabbits, snow deers, snow foxes, and other small animals that were usually docile. At that moment, they had all been going berserk, trying to have attacked them. The unusual sight caused Senior Sister Qin Yue’s frown to have deepened even further.

As a woman, her sixth sense tingled, having warned her that the entire mountain had been different from before.

Qing Yue, who had been in lead hesitated and stopped in her tracks, causing the others to have stopped as well.

“Different? What’s different?” Li Tian’s charming brows turned into a frown. “Senior Sister Qing Yue, what are you trying to say?”

“Oh, it’s nothing much. I just feel that this mountain seems to be giving off a slightly different feeling. You’ve seen for yourself how those docile animals were going berserk—”

“The snowy mountain is low on resources. When the snow covered the mountain, these animals had nothing to eat. Driven by their hunger, it’s natural for them to go wild. Junior Sister, I’m right here. With me around, you don’t have to worry about any demons or beasts that you can’t handle.” Li Tian waved his hand, appearing to have been confident. “Please don’t let yourself be affected by some cowardly people.”

With that said, Li Tian once again shot a condescending look at Chu Chen. Catching on, Fang Yong joined in with a sneer as well.

Chu Chen paid them no heed. After having noticed the weird situation, he had already expanded his spiritual consciousness to have examined the surrounding.

“Everyone, please wait a moment.”

After retracting his spiritual consciousness, Chu Chen pointed at a slop to the left. “Head there.”

Having been silent all the while, Chu Chen’s sudden statement and attempt to have led the way surprised them.

Although Qing Yue had not understood what had been going on, she had almost complete confidence in Chu Chen. Meanwhile, Li Tian frowned and gave him a disgusted look. “Junior Brother Chu, have you been here before? Why are you taking the lead?!”

“I’ve not been here before, but I feel that there’s danger ahead. It’ll be safer to take the higher path,” Chu Chen answered honestly.

Li Tian smirked in silence. Meanwhile, Fang Yong caught onto it and started shouting, “Junior Brother Chu, are you trying to get us killed? Don’t you know how dangerous it is on the snowy mountain? Why are you trying to lead the way if it’s your first time here? It’s fine if a trash like you died. What about Senior Brother Li, Senior Sister Qing Yue? Their lives are so much more precious—”

“Cut the crap. We’re going up.”

Qing Yue signaled for them to have moved on. She then leaped in the air and headed up the hill, having ditched the wide snow covered road.

Since the leader Qing Yue had already made the decision, everyone could have only followed behind her and leaped into the air, having ascended the snowy slope.

In the group, Li Tian and Qing Yue had the highest cultivation stage. Qing Yue had been at the third level of Spiritual Droplets Stage while Li Tian had been at the fourth level.

As seniors, they spent more time in the sect and had more experience, yet none of them sensed any danger. However, Qing Yue believed in Chu Chen and decided to have changed the path.

That pissed Li Tian off. As they climbed up the snowy slopes, he constantly mocked Chu Chen’s cowardice and blamed him for the detour they had to take.

“Let’s take a break.”

Having led everyone to the peak of the hill, Qing Yue had just been about to have them take a rest but suddenly caught sight of a grey flood having flowed down the wide snowy road.

“It’s ice-fanged rats! S-s-so many of them!” Fang Yong’s face turned pale.

“What’s going on? Why is there a horde of ice-fanged rats going berserk? Luckily we climbed up the hill. Otherwise…” Liu Bo massaged his chest as he took in deep breaths.

Having looked at the stampede of ice-fanged rats below, countless snow beasts had been stripped clean to their bones within the snowy mist caused by the stampede. Li Tian had been having mixed feelings. On one end, he had been happy that he had not died down there. On the other hand, he had actually been saved by that trash. That made him extremely awkward.

“That trash actually led us on the right path,” Fang Yong lamented dejectedly.

“Weaklings have an innate instinct to warn them of danger. However, running away is not the right path.” Li Tian waved his sleeve and made a majestic pose.

Qing Yue’s eyes turned cold. As her gaze focused and had just been about to have berated them, Chu Chen tapped her gently on the shoulder, reminding her not to have been rash.

After having left the snow hill, Chu Chen made several more suggestions to have changed directions. Due to the previous example of the ice-fanged rat horde, nobody had any differing opinions. They would have rather taken a further path instead of having put themselves in a dangerous situation.

In the end, they noticed that Chu Chen had made the right choice every time!

They first avoided a giant snow ape, then a nest of berserk ice hornets, and finally a dozen rampaging colossal ancient mammoths.

The group had gotten more anxious as they continued their journey. At the same time, they had great respect for Chu Chen’s prophetic ability.

Meanwhile, Qing Yue had been feeling especially thankful to Chu Chen, having brought it up multiple times that they had been lucky to have Chu Chen come along or this trip would have most likely been a one way journey.

Liu Bo had even begun to have idolized Chu Chen with countless words of gratitude.

Only Li Tian maintained his disgust towards Chu Chen. Fang Yong, the sycophant, constantly said, “Escaping is the natural ability of a weakling. An instinct that detects danger is not real ability. What’s the use of a man that only knows how to run? Absolute power is the way to go.”

The group arrived at a snow covered cliff. Chu Chen calmly stated, “Compared to the other paths, this is the safest. However, I’m afraid we’ll have to fight a tough battle.”

Before Chu Chen could have finished, the group had already sensed over a dozen dangerous auras coming from the snow wall behind them. It appeared that they had been surrounded by over a dozen violent beasts!

With Chu Chen’s warning, the group entered an alert state. Qing Yue looked around and held a gleaming sword in her hand.

Li Tian’s black robes fluttered without any wind as a strong aura emanated from him. Fang Yong and Liu Bo stood back to back with their swords drawn in a fully defensive formation.

Suddenly, the calm snowy mountain seemed to have been boiling over. A long terrifying wolf howl rang out, and echoed continuously along the cliff, resounding in the air!

“Snow dire wolves!”

Having heard that resonating wolf howl, Senior Sister Qing Yue shuddered and turned pale immediately!

Snow dire wolves had been the most cunning and difficult to have dealt with in the Taihan Snowy Mountain.

Anyone that passed through Taihan Snowy Mountain would have felt troubled at the mention of that name.
