Chapter 38: Howard’s Conspiracy

After some discussion, Hubert decided to take Sophia and Laura with him.

Chloe and Linda stayed in the shelter.

“Why? Why can’t I go?”, Chloe asked unhappily.

“The sanctuary also needs people to guard it. I’ll leave you and Linda to guard it. If there’s a similar opportunity next time, I’ll take you with me.”, Hubert said.

“Okay.”, Chloe saw that Hubert had already made his decision, so she had no choice but to agree.

Inside was a study room. Mayor Howard, who had a head like a vulture and a pair of gray wings on his back with fingers like steel hooks, sat on a huge boss chair. He held a cup of coffee in his hand and sipped it carefully.

His son, Richard the leopard man, stood respectfully in front of the desk. He was so respectful that he even pinched his tail.

“How is the task I asked you to do?”, Howard asked after taking a sip of coffee.

“It’s almost done. I found about a thousand refugees. They should all be able to rush to the west refugee camp in a few days.”, Richard said respectfully.

“I heard that you seem to be in trouble?”, Howard put down the coffee cup and stared at Richard with a sharp gaze.

“It’s just a small trouble. I’ve asked Martha to deal with it. It will be solved tomorrow.”, Richard said quickly.

“Very good.”, Howard nodded. “Remember, the refugees must be treated as the top priority. There must be no mistakes.”

“I understand, father.”, Richard hesitated for a moment and said, “I don’t understand. Why do we have to gather these refugees and let them die?”

“Humph, that’s not what you need to know now. You just need to do it well. When it’s time for you to know, you will know.”, Howard said.

“Do you want to place a few of our people among the refugees?”, Richard asked carefully.

“We can bribe them, but there’s no need to place our people there.”, said Howard indifferently.

“What do you mean?”, Richard was a little puzzled.

“These people will die.”, said Howard indifferently. “We can’t throw our men in there to be experimented on by those lunatics.”

“Lunatics? Experimented?”, Hubert was shocked.

In his previous life, there had been rumors that Howard had secretly experimented on civilians and studied magical elements. However, there had been no evidence.

Now, hearing Howard’s words, it seemed that there were still people behind Howard. These people were conducting human experiments, and the mortality rate was extremely high.

“Who?”, a sharp light flashed in Howard’s eyes, and an M500 pistol appeared in his hand out of nowhere, pointing at Hubert.

“That useless trash!”, Richard said with hatred.

Then, a vicious look appeared on Richard’s face. “However, you are really daring to break into my villa. I have arranged more than a dozen bodyguards in the villa, and each of them is equipped with a gun. You won’t be able to get out alive today!”

“Hehe.”, Hubert shook his head and said with a smile, “Is that so? Then you try to see if your bodyguards still listen to your summons?”

“Mark, Tom, bring people to the study immediately. Do you hear me!”, Richard immediately took out the walkie-talkie and called.

However, only rustling sounds came from the walkie-talkie, and no one answered.

“Mark, Tom, quickly answer. Is anyone there? Damn it, quickly send someone!”, Richard shouted at the walkie-talkie.

However, there was still only a rustling sound in the walkie-talkie. No one answered at all.

“D*mn it! What did you do to them?”, Richard smashed the walkie-talkie on the ground with hatred.

“They’re all dead. However, if you tell me the truth, maybe I can consider sparing your life.”, Hubert said.

“What do you want to know?”, Richard stared at Hubert in shock and fear.

The disappearance of the bodyguard made him lose his sense of security.

“Who is the one who ordered you to gather the civilians, and who is doing the experiments? What experiments?”, Hubert asked.

“This is not something you should know.”, Howard, who had been sitting at the side, suddenly said.

“If you leave now, I can pretend that what happened today did not happen.”

“What if I don’t?”, Hubert asked with a smile.

“Then go to hell!”, Howard suddenly pulled the trigger.

The M500 roared angrily.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

A series of bullets shot toward Hubert like lightning.

A Holy Light Shield instantly appeared in front of Hubert, blocking the bullets.

The .50 Magnum high-power pistol bullet left many cracks on the Holy Light Bullet.

Hubert casually shot a Holy Light Bomb at Howard.

Howard flapped his wings and flew into the air, dodging the Holy Light Bomb.

The Holy Light Bomb blew the big boss chair into pieces.

After dodging the Holy Light Bomb, Howard’s eyes revealed a fierce stare. He threw the M500, which had shot out all the bullets, at Hubert. Then he kicked his legs and stretched out his steel-like hands, pouncing toward Hubert.
