Chapter 26: The Duchess

In a rotisserie…

A few large plates of roasted ham, roasted chicken, roasted mutton, roasted beef, and bottles of wine that weren’t too strong were placed on the table.

Alice silently clenched her hands tightly and looked at the people in front of her coldly. She acted as if she did not hear anything and said softly, “Let’s go.”

Adrian was stunned at this sight. Were these people greeting Alice? However, why didn’t Alice acknowledge them?

However, he reacted quickly. When he heard that Alice wanted to leave, he quickly nodded and followed her.

Suddenly, a knight in his fifties or sixties walked out. He bowed respectfully to Alice and said bluntly, “Dear Duchess Alice, I am Knight Commander Willard. Your father, Duke Masefield, ordered me to bring you back to the castle.”

Duke Masefield? When Adrian heard this, his breath was caught in his throat!

Wasn’t that the Duke who was in charge of St. Paul City and lived in Hilmar City? He was a big shot whose power was second only to the King!

If Alice was the daughter of the Duke, her full name would be Alice Elizabeth.

However, why did Alice, the Duchess, come to such a small place?

The Knight Commander lowered his head and said respectfully, “Duchess, we can’t resist the Duke’s orders. Please don’t make things difficult for us.”

“Get lost!” Alice shouted angrily.

The Knight Commander was still bent over and did not listen to Alice. He only said in a low voice, “Duchess, Duke Masefield is seriously ill.”

Alice was stunned. Her angry expression immediately turned into one of panic and worry. She hurriedly said, “He’s severely ill? How is that possible? Wasn’t he fine before I left the castle?”
