Chapter 30: Meeting Her

Adrian looked at Richard’s nearly empty plate. He had really lost to this guy.

Thus, he no longer cared about what had happened and began to slowly savor his meal.

About half an hour later, Richard finally returned.

However, he didn’t bring the plate back. Instead, he looked very disappointed.

“What’s wrong?” Charles looked at Richard, who seemed to have lost his soul, and hurried over to ask.

However, Richard acted as if he hadn’t heard anything. He didn’t say anything and simply went into his room with a dark expression. He lay on his side on the bed, as if he had suffered a heavy blow.

Charles hurried into the small room and asked, “What exactly happened to you?”

“Are you angry because I ate your dinner?”

“Hey, hey, hey. You said that I could eat the food if Adrian didn’t want it.”

Adrian pulled Charles away helplessly and said in a low voice, “It’s not your problem. He’s obviously encountered something. Do you think everyone is like you, who only knows how to eat?”

After he was done sneering at Charles, Adrian was also worried about Richard. Thus, he whispered, “Richard, if you encounter any difficulties, you can tell us. We might be able to help you.”

Upon hearing Adrian’s words, Richard slowly sat up and said in an extremely depressed tone, “She’s getting married.”

“That lady?” Charles was very surprised. Then, he flashed a confused look and asked, “But what does that have to do with you? You don’t have to be sad!”

Adrian was utterly impressed by Charles’ ability to rub salt on someone else’s wound like this!

If it weren’t for the fact that Charles was usually not very smart, he would have suspected that he had done it on purpose!

It seemed like this idiot would never understand some things if Adrian didn’t explain it clearly.

Adrian said slowly, “Don’t say another word, Charles. He obviously has a thing for the lady. You understand now, don’t you?”

Charles finally nodded, indicating that he understood. However, no one knew if he really understood.

“I do like her.” Richard suddenly spoke very frankly. He clenched his fists tightly and said in a disappointed tone, “But it’s too late to say anything. There’s no point in doing anything because she got engaged to another man not long ago.”

Adrian was stunned and exclaimed, “How did this happen? Logically speaking, she should like you as well. Why did she suddenly get engaged to another man?”

Richard sighed and said bitterly, “That’s right. She did like me. She told me that just now.”

“Then why?” Charles’ face was instantly filled with confusion. He completely couldn’t understand why two people who loved each other couldn’t be together.

Richard shook his head with a wry smile and said, “I don’t know why either. I don’t even know if she’s telling the truth or not. As much as I’ve always been willing to believe her, I really don’t understand why she would marry anyone else if she liked me.”

Adrian said softly, “Perhaps she has some difficulties you don’t know about. It’s just hard for her to tell you.”

“What difficulties could she possibly have? She told me not to send her any more food, let alone meet her again!” Richard spoke with frustration and grief.

When Adrian heard this, he still felt that there should be some misunderstanding. Thus, he decided to let Richard recount what he had just experienced.

Only then did Richard slowly open his heart and tell them what had happened when he was delivering the food.

It turned out that the moment Richard met the girl he liked, the girl had been unusually cold. She was completely different from before, as if she desperately wanted to cut ties with him.

Although she cried when she talked about how she also liked Richard, she was mercilessly chasing him away and telling him not to come again later on.

Upon hearing this, Adrian couldn’t help but ask, “Did you do anything to let that lady down?”

“No! I promise I didn’t! I can swear to God on this!” Richard jumped to his feet in agitation and spoke with a tone full of determination.

Adrian nodded gently and said slowly, “Then, go and see her again tomorrow. You must ask her about the reason first. I think she must have encountered something that you don’t know. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have made such a sudden decision.”

However, Richard waved his hand in the air. “She told me not to see her again,” he said moodily. “So I’ll listen to her.”

“Furthermore, it’s perfectly normal for her to do that. After all, she’s quite pretty and her family is quite prosperous.”

“Thus, the man she’s marrying should be a famous local.”

“On the contrary, I don’t think that it’s sudden. Perhaps she just figured that there’s no need to waste time on someone like me.”

At this moment, Adrian believed that if Richard had a bottle of wine in his hand, he would definitely get drunk easily.

Adrian patted Richard on the shoulder and said seriously, “If you really like that lady, you have to know what’s going on. Don’t let your life fall into regret.”

“If you still feel conflicted and afraid, you can ask Charles and me to accompany you tomorrow. We don’t have anything to do anyway.”

After giving this well-intentioned advice, Adrian led Charles out of the room.

Since there were no extra rooms, they could only sleep on the floor.

However, this was nothing to them. After all, over the past week, they had been sleeping in the Spiritual Beast Forest every day. Not only was it unsafe there, there were also all sorts of sand and stones. It was extremely uncomfortable to sleep there.

Thus, in comparison to that, this flat floor in Richard’s house was clearly more comfortable and safe.

After a night, Richard sat in front of his bed in a daze. His eyes were bloodshot, and it was obvious that he had not slept at all.

Outside the window, there were insects and birds chirping. Suddenly, Richard noticed a white silk handkerchief on the table.

Richard could not help but be taken aback. Slowly, he recalled the owner of the handkerchief and the scene of their first encounter.

All of a sudden, the feeling that Richard was about to give up on was instantly ignited again!

Richard tightened his grip on the silk handkerchief. His gaze gradually became more determined, as if he had finally made a decision.

“Mr. Adrian, I would like to see her. I hope that you will accompany me.”
