Chapter 924: [924] Another Senior Brother
A group of people had trekked a long way, and it was almost one-thirty in the afternoon when they returned to their own hospital.
The ambulance arrived almost simultaneously.
The pediatric surgery team had sent a doctor down to transfer the patient. They saw it was a young and relatively slender male doctor, wearing glasses, which gave him a cultured impression, but his crew cut seemed to belong to a very tough person. The attending physician badge on his chest bore the name Luo Jingming.
“The surgery last night went smoothly, the drainage fluid is clear, and there’s no fever,” He Guangyou said as he stepped down from the ambulance and briefed the other party about the child’s condition.
“Who performed the surgery?” Luo Jingming asked.
“The new Professor Nie from your department. Hasn’t it been mentioned over the phone, didn’t you know?”
“I know, I meant, who assisted him in the operation?”
“Doctor Zhou from the county hospital was the assistant,” He Guangyou brought out Doctor Zhou, not planning to expose anyone else easily.
Observing He Guangyou’s somewhat strange behavior, Luo Jingming turned coldly and went to greet the leaders in the minibus that followed close behind.
Nie Jiamin got off the bus.
As he approached, Luo Jingming introduced himself, “Professor Nie, Director Hu asked me to take you to pediatric surgery. Pediatric surgery just moved to the fifth floor of the inpatient building a while back.”
That meant that Ward Six of the Department of Internal Medicine had officially merged with Ward Five, and all the patients were transferred to Ward Five. The original Ward Six became the pediatric surgery ward, waiting for their own space in the new surgical building.
President Wu really meant business about developing pediatric surgery.
Nie Jiamin had just arrived at the hospital and had first gone to the free clinic without having visited his own department to see it for himself, though he had seen pictures and introductions of the department during the initial contact with the hospital.
Nie Jiamin nodded and asked him to lead the way. After taking a few steps, he suddenly remembered there was someone else and turned around.
Realizing he was looking for someone, He Guangyou stepped forward and said, “I’ll accompany you, Teacher Nie. Xie Wanying is afraid her facial appearance might scare the children at pediatric surgery.”
Thinking it over, Nie Jiamin had no choice but to turn back.
Xie Wanying? Catching the name from He Guangyou’s lips, Luo Jingming’s gaze searched the group of doctors who had gotten off the bus and quickly locked onto a young girl’s figure: it was her.
“Are they from your eight-year class?” Doctor Kim whispered into Kang Mingzhu’s ear.
Kang Mingzhu had already seen Luo Jingming outside the bus. Luo Jingming was their senior from the eight-year class, one level above Senior Brother Huang. Originally in General Surgery Department One, he was transferred to pediatric surgery to help. Pediatric surgery was one of President Wu’s key projects, and the doctors transferred there were all quite skilled. Hence, it was no wonder that Senior Luo’s skills were impressive.
But, everyone in the hospital knew that those who could stay from their eight-year class were all a proud bunch. She didn’t know Luo Jingming at all, never having been in the same department or greeted him. People from the eight-year class never organized senior-junior gatherings. Only Senior Brother Huang and his fellow townsfolk did.
Walking behind her senior sister, Xie Wanying heard her conversation with Teacher Kim and only then realized that the person standing in the distance was also a senior brother.
The child’s stretcher was taken off the ambulance, and Luo Jingming and others escorted it to the inpatient department.
With the leaders gone, Doctor Kim called out to everyone, “Come on, let’s go have a good meal.”
After nearly two days of exhaustion, rewarding themselves was completely warranted.
Unexpectedly, the hospital leadership arrived. Section Chief Yang, representing President Wu, warmly welcomed their triumphant return and said considerately, “We’ve saved lunch for you, come and eat.”
Doctor Kim and his group’s faces fell, inwardly extremely reluctant, yet could only follow Section Chief Yang to the administrative building with grudging gratitude.
