“No way, it’s absolutely impossible that those two are dating,” Shen Xifei shook her head. “Senior Cao’s family is very particular about who they accept, how could she possibly be with Senior Cao?”

The threshold set by Cao Yong’s family for a potential daughter-in-law was famously high, a rumor that had been circulating for a long time and was believed by everyone–evidenced by the obvious fact that Cao Yong had not had a girlfriend in many years.

“Could it be that she’s clinging to Senior Cao’s coattails, hoping to land a job at the hospital?” Huang Beibei speculated.

“Definitely,” Shen Xifei asserted with conviction.

“Is that why you two consider her a thorn in your side?” Huang Beibei questioned. “That doesn’t quite add up. Which department does she want to stay in for the future? Cardiology? Obstetrics and Gynecology?”

As the two of them talked, they noticed Zhang Xiaohui hadn’t said a word, so they asked, “Xiao Hui, what do you think?”

Zhang Xiaohui’s eyes were fixed on Cao Yong’s every facial expression. She knew him; she had been observing him secretly for a long time and could tell that the look in his eyes at this moment was completely different from usual.

He had never gazed at any girl with such eyes before, and that certainly included her, Zhang Xiaohui.

“Xiao Hui,” Huang Beibei tugged at her clothes, softly reminding her, “You’ve finally got the chance to continue your studies at school, and in the future, you could compete for a spot to work in the school’s research lab. Don’t mess it up now–”

After listening to her explanation, Yue Wentong finally noticed Cao Yong sitting on the other side and was shocked: She was having a meal with Senior Cao.

At the sound of that voice, all the classmates knew it was Student Li Qi’an.

Li Qi’an, who had charged in, stared at her face and bluntly asked, “Why have you become so ugly?”

What was this guy talking about? Yue Wentong, as the class monitor, extended a hand to tap on Student Li’s head: You can’t speak like that to the only girl in our class, it’s ungentlemanly.

He had misspoken. Li Qi’an covered his mouth, “Sorry, Yingying, I was too anxious. Thinking about our class’s bad luck, with two students getting beaten up in the last two days, I’ve got a shadow over my heart now.”

“Who got beaten up?” Xie Wanying asked, surprised.

“It’s Pan Shihua. He was on an Obstetrics and Gynecology rotation, and he said he entered the examination room with a medical record to have a teacher sign it. A patient’s family claimed he had no right to see the female patients and so they beat him up,” Li Qi’an explained.

Xie Wanying remembered Pan Shihua, the amiable boy from her class who was far from cool like Lin Hao and the class monitor, nor as lively as Li Qi’an and Zhao Zhaowei. He was a quiet and mild-mannered boy, and he didn’t look bad either. Yet even he had been beaten by a male family member.

“How is he now? Where was he hit?” Xie Wanying asked with concern.
