He removed his black western suit jacket and covered the shivering girl. Gently, he patted her slender back, saying, “Your husband is here. There’s no need to be scared anymore.” 

His deep husky voice was supposed to be like a comforting warm summer breeze. The second she was wrapped around, and protected by the man’s thick jacket, her tears poured out like an open faucet. 

Qiao Yanli’s hand swiftly reached into his pocket and withdrew a handkerchief. As he wiped away her tears and the smudged mascara, he lowered his voice, saying, “There’s a good girl… You’re alright now.” 

Xia Yanxi could not stop the tears from gushing out of her eyes. Her hands, still trembling with fear, held the corners of the jacket and pulled it tighter around her. When she could finally smell the lingering faint scent of tobacco that she knew well, she finally stopped shaking, and she could finally calm down. 

Bai Wenxuan was not liking this. Not. One. Bit.

He hissed in response. Angered by the sudden attack, he raised his other hand, ready to deliver a slap. However, before the hand could be swung, a powerful kick landed on his abdomen. That was unexpected, coming from a stranger that was exuding such elegance. He was unprepared for something of that sort and was thrown several feet backward. 

With haste, Qiao Yanli shot to Xia Yanxi’s side and stood in front of her. His eyes were fixed on the oncoming haymaker being delivered by Bai Wenxuan. He knew it was coming and he was prepared for it. He welcomed the fist with his palm. Grabbing hold of his fist in his hand, he countered the attack with a straight blow to Bai Wenxuan’s face.

The fist came like thunder; unexpected. 

The man was thrown off his feet and crashed onto the floor. His face was in pain. Blood was oozing out from both his nose and the corner of his lips.

“Who the f*ck are you? Why are you butting in between Xia Yanxi and I? I was already with her since childhood and even dated her for five years! What authority do you have to stand between us?!” he bellowed. Bai Wenxuan was not unfamiliar with martial arts but with this man as his opponent, he had only been defending himself and not been able to land a hit. 

Qiao Yanli arched an eyebrow and paced one step forward. His eyes flared with hostility the likes of a savage wolf. 

“Based on the fact that I am her husband!” 

Bai Wenxuan was rendered speechless. 

Surprise after surprise, and now, he was genuinely surprised to see how Xia Yanxi could have landed herself, not only a handsome man, but a capable one.

When the door was pushed open, Huo Shiyu’s pale shocked face appeared. Xia Yanxi, still overwhelmed by fatigue, offered a single glare before she said, “You best tend to that fiance of yours. Tie him with a leash so that he won’t go about f*cking things around like a dog in heat!”
