Reyes couldn’t do anything about Toya.

But she was supposed to be like this.

He compromised. “Since you’re in such a difficult position, forget it.”

Toya wanted to say that she was not troubled at all, but she simply did not want to recommend him.

But she remembered that she had just told him that she wanted to get along well with him, so she held back.

“Then stop following me.”

Reyes glared at her.

He pursed his lips straight and didn’t respond.

Toya gritted her teeth and said the name that she absolutely despised. “Carter Madison.”

It was someone from the Madison family.

Carter Madison was the son of Toya’s eldest brother, who had died in the same year as her mother. He was her nephew by blood.

He was siblings with Anna, who had “fought” with her yesterday. He was 18 years old and was still in high school.

As if he didn’t see the man in front of him, Carter said to Toya excitedly, “Toya! It’s me! I’m Carter! My sister told me that you were engaged to someone else. I didn’t believe her, so I came to you. My sister was lying to me. You didn’t marry anyone, right?”

He leaned forward again. Reyes grabbed his arm and restrained him.

Reyes thought there was something wrong with this man.

Toya, not even looking at Carter, ducked even more.

Carter didn’t get a response and looked dejected. “You’re avoiding me again. Am I so detestable to you?”

Reyes immediately knew that he was pretending to be pitiful. In the two days he had been with Toya, he had gradually become aware that this woman was amenable to coaxing but not coercion. The more he pretended to be pitiful, the better her attitude would be. The more he went along with her and made her comfortable, the nicer she would act.

He had never understood why even though her attitude had clearly improved, she was still cold-hearted.

When he saw Carter, he seemed to understand something.

Despite hearing Carter’s pained tone, Toya’s expression did not improve at all. She even felt a little nauseous.

She suppressed her disgust and ordered coldly, “Stay away from me!”
