Chapter 407: Chapter 327 Lin Lu: What’s So Special About Kissing? (Seeking Double Monthly Votes!)
“Phew–! Nice and warm now!”
Lin Lu’s chilly little hands were being held by Cheng Zhu.
But obviously, he couldn’t just walk around holding both of her ice-cold hands; that would be way too weird.
So, Lin Lu’s right hand was tucked into the pocket of her own coat.
Yes, the pockets of the coat were clearly there to provide warmth.
In fact, Lin Lu even had a pair of gloves stashed in her bag.
This girl, prone to coldness and exceptionally fearful of the chill, always came prepared during the winter season.
In reality, Cheng Zhu had noticed the gloves inside her bag when she had reached for a hand warmer.
But he chose not to point it out.
“No need for gloves when my hands are undoubtedly warmer,” Cheng Zhu thought to himself.
So there they were, each wearing a red Christmas hat, strolling aimlessly through the streets of Hang City and watching the snowflakes falling from the sky.
Because they were holding hands, he could sense Lin Lu’s visible delight.
Her bright, expressive eyes seemed able to communicate every emotion bubbling up inside her.
While crossing the street together, Cheng Zhu glanced at her and made a subtle move.
That one gesture accelerated Lin Lu’s heartbeat even more.
He was holding her left hand with his right and then, slipped both their hands into the pocket of his down jacket.
With this movement, the two of them were forced to move even closer together.
…
…
The snow in Hang City began to fall heavier.
Walking through the streets, you could clearly feel the excitement of the people around you.
Of course, every now and then, you’d hear disdainful comments from those with northern accents.
Hence, the saying came about: “Those who write in the snow reveal that they’re from the south.”
“Cheng Zhu, do you think the snow will pile up by the time we wake up tomorrow?” Little Lu looked around curiously and asked.
In his mind, the rascal mocked: The way you put it, it sounds like we’re going to be sleeping together tonight.
Of course, I’d be willing to make that tiny sacrifice!
“Should do, it’s coming down quite heavily,” he replied.
In his memory, sometimes it started as sleet and later shifted to just snow. But if it started off as snow, it usually didn’t turn into sleet, right?
With that thought, he was relieved: “Thank goodness it’s not sleet.”
On Christmas Eve, many girls and their admirers would be out in full force.
If it were sleet, they just might send that cringy message: “Rain can mix with snow, so why can’t I mix with you?”
His reaction to Lin Lu’s next comment was a mix of laughter and disbelief.
“I wonder if we’ll be able to build a snowman tomorrow.”
“That would require a lot of snow,” Cheng Zhu glanced at the pocket of his down jacket, squeezing her little hand, “And besides, don’t you have chilly little hands?”
“It’s fine, I’ll invite you when I build the snowman!”
“Where’s the logic in that?”
“Simple! I’ll work on it for a bit, then come warm up with you, then go back to building!”
“I think you just want to freeze me to death,” Cheng Zhu conceded.
“Treating me like a portable hand warmer, huh? Keep it up, and I’m going to start charging,” he teased.
“Then name your price,” the rich young lady spoke with natural authority.
“No need, I’ll find an opportunity to settle the score with you another time,” Cheng Zhu grinned.
Today being Christmas, combined with the sudden snowfall, meant streets were filled with excited southerners unaccustomed to such scenes.
Many had been indoors, but the snowfall had drawn almost everyone outside.
Many were also taking endless pictures with their phones.
In fact, if it hadn’t snowed, Cheng Zhu and Lin Lu would probably still be in the car.
“Cheng Zhu, there’s a small park over there. Let’s go check it out!” Lin Lu suggested.
“Sure,” Cheng Zhu was indifferent.
Today was her birthday, so she was the boss.
“Later, at the bench, take a photo of me,” Lin Lu also began to make requests.
“Okay.”
The park was quite dark with many lights out of order.
Cheng Zhu led Lin Lu to a bench that was conveniently under a streetlight.
With the light and the snow, they would surely capture more atmosphere in the photos.
He found a good angle, crouched, and began taking pictures with Lin Lu’s phone.
During the process, the phone received a WeChat message.
Cheng Zhu eyed the message, pursing his lips slightly.
“Check it out, she allows direct view of WeChat messages and hasn’t set it to just show message prompts.”
So, he saw that the message was from Ningning and what she had written.
“You have a WeChat message from Shen Qingning,” Cheng Zhu told Lin Lu, who was posing.
“Ningning? What’s she saying?” Lin Lu asked, unfazed that he’d seen the chat.
“She’s asking if you’re going back to the apartment to sleep tonight?” Cheng Zhu said.
Lin Lu looked at him and asked, “Cheng Zhu, are you going back to Xinhang Apartment tonight?”
“Yeah.”
“Oh, then I’ll head back there too,” she said.
“Reply to her yourself later, I’ll keep taking photos for you.”
“OK!”
Cheng Zhu quickly finished taking the photos and then saw Lin Lu replying to Shen Qingning.
Raising his head, he looked at the snowflakes drifting down under the streetlight.
After replying to WeChat, Lin Lu stood up and said, “Let’s go, let’s see what’s up ahead.”
“Sure,” said Cheng Zhu.
But now, they were not holding hands.
Lin Lu hopped over to Cheng Zhu’s left side, causing a small ripple in her puffy attire.
Raising her right hand, she said, “This hand hasn’t warmed up.”
Cheng Zhu seemed to be at his wits’ end with her today, resignedly taking her right hand with his left and stuffing it into the pocket of his down jacket as well.
They hadn’t walked far when he felt Lin Lu lean slightly against him and whisper softly, “Cheng Zhu, look, people are kissing over there!”
Following the direction she indicated, indeed, there were two people kissing in a dim corner.
The most outrageous part was that the man’s hands were firmly on the woman’s hips!
Firmly clutching!
Lin Lu hadn’t seen it clearly, but now her cheeks turned red and she quickly looked away.
“Is kissing that peculiar? Haven’t you seen it at school before?” Cheng Zhu asked.
“Ah? At school!” Lin Lu was slightly surprised, and then it dawned on her, “You mean by the artificial lake at night?”
She had heard others say that many couples would hang out by the artificial lake at night, often hiding in corners to be affectionate.
“Yeah,” Cheng Zhu nodded slightly.
The thought-jumping Lin Lu suddenly blurted out, “Tell me! Have you kissed someone before?”
“Hmm? Now you’re interrogating me!” Cheng Zhu turned to look at her.
“Whoa! Ningning told me that if a man doesn’t answer a question directly, that means there’s something fishy. You definitely have!” Lin Lu stated.
Internally, Cheng Zhu thought: Touche!
Of course, I have–it was with your Ningning.
Looking at him, Lin Lu spoke frankly, “Cheng Zhu, I’ve actually asked Jiang Wanzhou to snoop on your love history.”
“You’re impressive, going to him for intel,” Cheng Zhu pretended to just find out.
Otherwise, wouldn’t that be betraying Little President Jiang?
“He seems to dislike your ex-girlfriend quite a bit,” Lin Lu said.
“That’s more than ‘quite a bit’; it’s a serious aversion,” Cheng Zhu chuckled.
Jiang Wanzhou’s resentment toward Li Xinyue was palpable.
“Do you guys, when considering a relationship, take into account the opinions of your bros?” Lin Lu asked.
“Some might, to an extent,” Cheng Zhu replied.
To be exact, a lot of what’s referred to as love during adolescence is often spurred on by those around them.
Hearing this, a sense of smugness rose in Lin Lu.
“Anyway, Little President Jiang and I are on great terms,” she smugly thought, “He even thinks you’re not good enough for me! Hmph!”
The two continued deeper into the park, but it was getting darker.
There was a man-made pond in the center of the park, with almost all the surrounding lights broken and left unrepaired.
With the cold weather, parts of the pond were starting to freeze over.
Lin Lu, with her sharp eyes, noticed another couple embracing not far off.
“It doesn’t look like they’re kissing, oh, now they are!” she observed.
“Tsk, and they got pushed away,” Cheng Zhu joined the spectacle.
It seems these two were still in the phase of feigned restraint.
Unexpectedly, the woman pushed the man away and swiftly walked off, with the man pursuing her from behind.
“What’s going on here?” Lin Lu was baffled.
“So curious? Shall we follow and find out?” Cheng Zhu teased.
“Are you nuts? That’d be so embarrassing,” Lin Lu retorted.
“You can feel embarrassed? I’ve seen you scouting the park all night long, looking for couples to see if anyone’s kissing. You haven’t stopped the whole time.”
“Shut up! I did not!”
“You did, your eyes were lit up.”
“Watch your tone with your senior here,” Lin Lu glared at him, “You make me sound like some kind of pervert. And what’s so odd about kissing? It’s just touching lips, a little peck.”
–The commentary of someone whose first kiss still lingered.
“Is that so?” With no one else around, Cheng Zhu turned to look into her eyes.
Lin Lu’s small face was wrapped in a black scarf, and because Cheng Zhu was so much taller, her head naturally tipped backward under her large Christmas hat as she looked up at him.
Just exchanging that gaze, her heart raced and her body temperature rose.
The small hand tucked inside Cheng Zhu’s jacket pocket involuntarily clenched his larger hand.
He’s not going to kiss me, is he? Gah!
“What are you nervous about?” he laughed.
“I’m not!” Lin Lu realized he had no intention of kissing and was just teasing her.
The energetic girl lifted her other hand, intending to hit him.
Instead, that hand was also grabbed by Cheng Zhu and placed into his other jacket pocket.
Now, both of Lin Lu’s hands were tucked into his pockets.
This left the two face-to-face, separated by no more than an arm span’s distance.
Following this, Cheng Zhu made a single motion that left Little Lu feeling her mind go blank and her entire body tense up.
After shoving her other hand into his pocket, Cheng Zhu’s large hand didn’t stay there but was slightly raised.
His eyes remained on hers, watching her face half-covered by the black scarf–like a defensive line before her little mouth.
The scarf hid her chin, her rosy lips, even most of her nose.
Cheng Zhu began to lean in.
Suddenly, his index and middle fingers hooked onto the scarf covering half of Lin Lu’s face!
Then, with an extremely slow motion, he slowly pulled it down.
