Chapter 1442: Chapter 103: I’m Also Skilled in Healing, Hehe
Ange plucked the fruit just as Anthony was also opening his eyes on the ground, asking, “So, are you satisfied with this effect?”
The Great Speaker didn’t express whether he was satisfied or not but sized him up and said, “So you are a man of the Lord of Life, pretending to be the Lord of Light, huh? Do you think I can’t discern the whispers of the forest? The Lord of Life has been missing for so long, and it turned out he didn’t die but went to the Friel Empire?”
A pang went through Anthony’s heart, and an appropriately awkward expression appeared on his face as he stammered, “So you know the whispers of the forest. Well, although I don’t know where the Lord of Life came from, he’s indeed in the Friel Empire.”
“It’s here, this is the ancestral land of the Lord of Life, a giant tree reaching the skies, but it collapsed a few years ago. It lay across the ground like a mountain range. I thought it had died and never expected it ran off to the Friel Empire. I even chopped its branches and sold them to alchemists to make Mechanical Constructs; could it have run away because I chopped too hard?” The Great Speaker rattled on.
Anthony, a line of frustration across his face, awkwardly smiled without knowing how to respond. Was the Great Speaker suggesting he was an enemy or friend of the Lord of Life?
The Divine Light Alliance had a World Tree, which was common knowledge. The World Tree wood used on Mechanical Constructs was proof, and the material was not expensive since even the lowest-grade constructs used it.
It was just unexpected that the World Tree was on this Plane, and the wood might have even been sold by the Great Speaker himself, which greatly reduced the leeway for Anthony to hoodwink.
He knew well what the whispers of the forest were all about; it had nothing to do with the Lord of Life. Now that the Great Speaker had uncovered this, and he had opportunistically admitted his connection to the Lord of Life, he found himself in a passive position.
“You probably don’t know all this, no worries. Where is the Lord of Life, anyway? Let him come out to meet an old friend and thank him for saving my plane,” said the Great Speaker.
Anthony shook his head, “I can’t decide that, but I will relay your words. Are you satisfied with this effect?”
“Very satisfied, extremely satisfied! Worthy of being the Lord of Life, it has indeed saved billions of catties of grain for me. Thank you so much,” the Great Speaker replied.
“Good to hear you’re satisfied, then let’s discuss the compensation issue, shall we?” Anthony rubbed his hands, hinting at the appearance of silver coins.
The Great Speaker, taken aback, asked, “Wasn’t it free? You never mentioned a fee.”
Anthony chuckled, “Do recall, did I ever mention it was free? Did I or did I say ‘Aren’t you annoying…'”
Seeing the Great Speaker’s face darken gradually, Anthony reluctantly added, “Of course, even though I never mentioned it was free, I don’t plan to charge you for this service. Consider it a trial experience. You’re satisfied with the effect, but what about next year? The Light Disaster may persist, do you intend not to plant anything next year?”
The Great Speaker darkened and inquired, “How do you know the Light Disaster will continue indefinitely? Did you cause it? Otherwise, how come as soon as you arrived here, the Light Disaster happened?”
Anthony smiled and replied, “Great Speaker, you’re being a bit unreasonable. If we had the power to cause such a catastrophe, the Friel Queen wouldn’t have driven us from our homeland. The Light Disaster is caused by the Sun and will surely affect not just your Plane. You can send messages to other Planes; the rumors are that the Divine Light Alliance has six major powers, right? There’s more than one Master Plane.”
The Great Speaker stared deeply at Anthony and said, “Come with me.” He then turned and walked away.
Anthony followed and soon they reached a massive structure that resembled a table supported by numerous stone pillars with countless buildings laid out on the ‘table top’.
Below the tabletop, however, were countless gigantic stone pillars, some high, supporting the tabletop, and the shorter ones encapsulating spaces, leaving only some passages leading to the inside.
Sensing Anthony’s curiosity about the building, the Great Speaker explained, “Quite distinctive, isn’t it? These stone pillars are unique to this Plane. I have no idea how they formed. They are scattered over the cliffs by the sea, each pillar standing separately, very neatly organized.”
“So I had everyone carry them back here, stick them into the ground, and cover them with layers of rock. Each layer was fused together by mages, layer upon layer, until it was all laid down like this, with living beings above and Undead moving below.”
“These giant stone pillars, freeing up a single one, creates a chasm kilometers deep. Lying down in there is quite comfortable, with air currents rising and pulling in air from around,” he continued.
“However, the pit being too high, the breath of death settles within it, falling to the bottom, forming an ideal environment for Undead beings. We call this place Table Mountain, doesn’t it look like a table?”
Anthony, who was quite familiar with Undead beings, understood instantly. These giant stone pillars squeezed together, resembled bundles of bamboo sticks; removing a few creates a space that extends from top to bottom.
These kilometer-high spaces easily change temperature due to the difference in height, like a chimney in a Dwarf’s forge, drawing air from all sides, creating a chimney effect.
But the breath of death was heavier and settled, not rising to the kilometer-high sky, only sinking within the space, forming thick Breathing Soil at the bottom.
This airy yet dry environment that accumulates death breath was, naturally, the optimal living space for Undead beings.
However, utilizing these kilometer-high giant stone pillars as building material was certainly not an easy task.
Anthony did not respond but only displayed a thoughtful expression, as if pondering something.
Because of the Great Speaker’s explanation, which could likely be a trap, being from the Lord of Life himself, how could he not instantly understand this was a suitable space for Undead beings?
Following the Great Speaker up to the ‘tabletop’, they entered a grand building, which in regulation and location appeared to be an official institution like the City Lord’s Mansion.
However, all inside was veiled with thick curtains, blocking every possible inflow of light. As soon as they entered, cries filled the space like a slaughterhouse.
The stench from rotting organic material was trapped inside by the thick curtains; Anthony nearly stumbled into a tumble when he entered.
The Great Speaker, unable to smell, but from the scene alone knew how bad the situation was, quickly explained, “People with sunburn are gathered here. Their skin is ulcerating, and no matter the treatment, it doesn’t heal, including my right-hand man, who actually manages this place. I’ll go find him to come here, and we can talk more outside.”
But Anthony seemed unconcerned and, rubbing his hands, smiled, “No need to go outside, Great Speaker. As you know, I initially introduced myself to you as the Lord of Light, so I am also proficient in healing, heh heh.”
