Chapter 1071: Chapter 1071: Ghost Slap_1 Chapter 1071: Chapter 1071: Ghost Slap_1 Several days passed, and Purple Summers encountered Mr. Ghost Hayes and Hunter Dalton at home.
They had been summoned by Alexander Summers from Clearwater soon after the casino incident, tending to exorcisms and arranging geomancy. During the days Purple prepared for the lawsuit, they were incessantly busy.
Now that they were done, all was calm, and Alexander had called them to the island again.
To check on Purple.
Purple sat on the sofa, while Mr. Ghost Hayes circled around her twice and a half, nodding as he observed, “Hmm… Not bad, very good.”
Alexander thought Mr. Ghost Hayes was referring to her well-nurtured spirit.
But in the end, Mr. Ghost Hayes said, “Her face has filled out.”
Alexander’s face immediately darkened.
Purple found it both funny and embarrassing.
Lately, as if a great weight had been lifted from her chest, she had been eating well and sleeping soundly; indeed, her face had gotten rounder than before.
Alexander took them to the study, while Purple went to the kitchen to instruct the servants to prepare tea and pastries.
Mr. Ghost Hayes was picky with his mouth.
During his times of hardship, he’d eat anything without a fuss, but once he had connections with the powerful, he’d never settle for less, expecting the best in clothing, food, lodging, and travel, with afternoon tea being an indispensable luxury.
While preparing the pastries, Zack Wallace arrived looking very rushed, with a laptop tucked under his arm.
Purple then told the servants to prepare an extra set of tea and pastries.
Once everything was ready, Purple personally carried the tray upstairs to avoid any chance of the servants intruding into the study carelessly and earning Alexander’s rebuke.
She carried the tray, and therefore walked very slowly, with light steps.
On the tray were four cups of black tea and cotton-soft cakes and flaky cream puffs, all favorites of Mr. Ghost Hayes.
As she was about to reach the study, she heard Mr. Ghost Hayes inside slap his thigh and say, “Look! This is the Ghost Slap! Wasn’t I right? Did you see him nodding?”
Purple furrowed her brows and walked in, “What is a Ghost Slap?”
“Ahhh! Ahhh! Ahhh! Ahhh!” cried out Mr. Ghost Hayes in fright. Seeing Purple, he was still in shock, “You scared me to death, Mrs. Summers! How come your steps make no sound?!”
“You’re not afraid of ghosts but afraid of people?” Zack snidely remarked.
Because Mr. Ghost Hayes had once deceived Alexander out of money, Zack had always looked at him unfavorably.
Mr. Ghost Hayes, still in fear, patted his chest babbling, “Mr. King, people are far scarier than ghosts! You can fend off ghosts with Buddha amulets, ancient jades, but with people, there’s nothing to stop them!”
His words made sense.
Zack stopped targeting him, took the tray from Purple’s hands, and placed it on the table.
“What were you discussing? What is a Ghost Slap?” Purple still didn’t understand, her gaze falling on the laptop in front of Alexander.
On the computer screen was surveillance footage of Oscar Smith’s suicidal jump.
Everyone in the study remained silent.
Without Alexander’s word, they didn’t know whether they could discuss the matter with Purple, so remaining silent was the safest option.
“Oscar Smith’s death was mysterious. It might not have been actual suicide, but a Ghost Slap,” Alexander mused, “It’s said to be a common malevolent technique used by those who train ghosts.”
On hearing this, Purple’s eyebrows furrowed deeper. She walked over and scrutinized the surveillance footage.
Due to the angle, only Oscar’s back could be seen.
Oscar walked down the corridor leading to a large sliding window at the end. He naturally pushed the window open, then climbed onto the sill; the whole sequence was uninterrupted.
When he stood up, the wind outside howled, whirling his clothes about fiercely. With just a half step forward, he would plummet to his death.
Even without any sound effects, watching such a scene made Purple’s heart rise into her throat.
Then, she saw Oscar’s head give a slight nod, followed by his body falling forward with momentum, disappearing from the window.
Purple closed her eyes, briefly struggling to breathe.
Alexander closed the laptop and heaved a soft sigh, “I didn’t want you to see this. I was afraid it would lead to unwarranted thoughts.”
