Alexander didn’t put on airs and conversed like an ordinary road tripper, “We’re heading to Cascadia.”

The other person, obviously a frequent traveler, immediately recognized the place and said, “Cascadia? The one near West Hill?”

“Yeah, that’s the one.”

“That’s still pretty far, buddy, you’ve got at least ten more hours of driving.”

Alexander laughed, “No rush, we’re sightseeing along the way, as long as we get there before New Year’s Eve.”

The other person laughed, “Yeah, you’ve got this car, no need to hurry! Haha!”

After a short chat and refueling, Alexander got back into the car and they set off again.

Purple sat beside him a bit shyly and asked, “Why did you suddenly decide to go to Cascadia?”

Alexander glanced at her and countered, “Isn’t it you who wanted to go?”

“Nonsense, I never said that!” Purple retorted.

Alexander looked ahead, teasing, “Oh, what about now? Do you want to go to Cascadia?”

Purple pursed her lips and whispered softly, “Yes.”

Cascadia was Suzanne Saunders’ hometown, and she had planned to go back during the Tomb-Sweeping Day to pay homage to her grandmother. She didn’t expect Alexander to come up with the idea of taking her back to her hometown for New Year’s.

…It really was a surprise.

After a dozen hours of driving, Alexander drove leisurely. Stopping at scenic spots to rest, it took them two days to finally reach Cascadia.

The quaint and peaceful town was suddenly stirred by the arrival of a huge, luxurious RV, drawing attention from passersby.

The roads in the small town were not as spacious as those in big cities, and occasionally mischievous children would run around the streets, making Alexander drive cautiously and carefully.

As the scenery grew more and more familiar, that even though her relatives were no longer there, Purple felt a warmth surging through her, spreading through her limbs, cozy and comforting.

Alexander had bought her and her grandmother’s old home, along with the house next door, combining both yards, which was just enough space to park their RV.

An elderly couple helped to look after the place.

When Alexander arrived, the couple handed him the keys and wished them “Happy New Year” before leaving cheerfully.

Alexander began unloading the New Year goods from the car, while Purple ran into the house like an eager little sparrow.

The house was spotlessly clean.

The cacti on the windowsill, sporting round prickly balls, were still pleasingly green despite the winter chill. The wooden furniture and seats were simple in design, solid and durable.

The arrangement couldn’t possibly be the same as before, since the house had been sold to someone else, but it was already very good, really… very good.

She walked to the threshold and gently caressed the outer corner of the wall where there were blurred scratches, marks her grandmother had made to measure her height when she was a child.

These small details moistened Purple’s eyes slightly.

Just then, Alexander came in with a box of fruit.

Purple picked up a small stone from the yard and, standing beside him at the door, reached up on her tiptoes and made a mark above his head on the wall.

A new scratch instantly appeared in the corner.

“So tall,” Purple smiled with glee.

Alexander bent down and kissed her, “You really are a silly girl.”
