Chapter 55 – Sleeping (1)

There were a lot of vegetables in the field of Old Li Tou’s family. Su Xiaoxiao picked some white radishes, Chinese cabbage and garlic sprouts.

“This is…” Su Xiaoxiao looked at a piece of green vegetable and asked.

“Coriander (yan sui)” Old Li Tou said, “the taste is a little strong, and many people can’t get used to it.”

Isn’t this the same as coriander (xiang cai) from the previous life?

Coriander was good. It was rich in vitamins, with many nutritions and various minerals. It could relieve rashes and give aid to digestion. It was very suitable to eat in winter.

Su Xiaoxiao picked some coriander and filled Old Li Tou’s basket so full to the brim.

She went out just to see the field and didn’t bring anything with her.

When Mrs. Qian saw Su Pangya had picked up so many vegetables, her face turned pale because of the pain.

Old Li Tou said to Su Xiaoxiao, “You don’t grow the vegetables to sell, and you only have a few people in your family to eat them. In fact, you don’t need that much land, half an acre is enough. As for the remaining ones, you can use it to grow some food grains.”

Su Xiaoxiao listened to Old Li Tou’s words.

With so much land, of course she would not waste it. But compared with the food grains, she wanted to grow sugarcane more.  

Sugarcane could be processed to become sugar. The cost of making cakes could be reduced a lot, and the profit margin will be bigger.

As for selling the sugar, she had no such intention for the time being.

Sugar and salt were rare things in ancient times, and there was a huge chain of powerful people behind it. Once she disrupted the sugar market with low prices, she would definitely become a target and attacked from all sides. 

She wouldn’t do that until she had enough ability to protect herself.

“Uncle Li, Aunt Qian, I will go back first.”

“Go ahead,” Old Li Tou said.

Mrs. Qian secretly rolled her eyes.

Su Xiaoxiao left the vegetable field with a basket on her shoulder in amusement.

She was an open-minded and easy-going person, so she was really not angry.

When she got home, Su Xiaoxiao took out the vegetables and returned the basket back to the Old Li Tou couples.

The basket was heavy and it was covered with a clean cotton cloth.

After she left, Mrs. Qian opened it and saw that there were six cakes and two big pieces of meat!

Mrs. Qian gasped!

Su Cheng finished making the crutches, then he called Wei Ting to come over, and asked him to try the crutches in the backyard.

I didn’t know whether it should be said or not, but Father Su was really very good to his son-in-law.

Just didn’t know if Father Su would vomit blood or not on the day Wei Ting left.

Su Ergou walked around with the children and then he went to the village entrance to fetch water.

The three little ones didn’t obediently take a nap, they crawled out of bed and went to the next door.

They arrived at the window of Mrs. Wu’s house.

Niudan didn’t eat the sugar water egg today. His yeye1 Liu Shan, went to the back village to eat a banquet yesterday, and he brought Niudan half a bowl of peanuts and a piece of malt sugar candy.

He ate a piece of peanut and licked the malt sugar candy.

“Do you know what this is?”

He teased the three little ones, and made them become envious.

“It’s Peanuts!” Then once again, he raised the half licked of the malt sugar candy, and said, “malt sugar candy!”

“I won’t give it to you! Just let you guys be envious to death! Lue lue lue!2”

2lue lue lue : the sound of mocking, sticking out the tongue.

The three little ones just blinked and walked away.

“Humph!” Niudan snorted and continued to lick the candy.

Suddenly, the three little ones came back again.

Each of them had a stick of glistening and shiny candied haws in their hands.

When Niudan saw the candied haws, his eyes became shocked and he stared straight at it.

The three little ones started to lick the candied haws. But after licking it for a while, they were not satisfied, so they directly started to gnaw it with their little teeth. 

Niudan suddenly felt that the malt sugar candy in his hand was not delicious anymore!

After the three little ones had enough of the candied haws, they went back home and took a bowl of fried sesame balls and fried peanut puffs, then they took one bite at a time while facing Niudan.

Niudan felt so envious, so he cried!
