Chapter 1225: Chapter 54 Pulse_2

“Hmm… this is indeed a good idea… stimulation, triggering memory, emotions… emotions!”

Du Yao’s eyes widened as she suddenly stood up, staring at Lin Xian:

“A lot of people develop acrophobia seemingly out of nowhere, but they can never recall the specific event that caused it.”

“Even so, even if those memories are lost, the sensation of fear, the emotions linger, the psychological trauma… perhaps, this really could be a viable approach!”

“All it takes is to stimulate again, provoke intense emotions and feelings, and maybe–just maybe–the dormant memories can reawaken!”

…

Du Yao’s words became slightly incoherent.

But Lin Xian could mostly understand, and relate to what she was saying.

Hibernation indeed causes amnesia, but numerous pieces of evidence suggest that feelings and emotions can still persist.

Before today, Lin Xian referred to this extraordinary phenomenon as [Obsession].

Zheng Xiangyue had an obsession, the blue-eyed village chief of #17 had an obsession, even Lin Yuxi retained obsessions after her amnesia–even though she herself didn’t know why these obsessions existed… Yet these obsessions seemed engrained in their very bones, utterly unforgettable.

So…

Was Du Yao implying that these obsessions, feelings, and emotions could be reverse-engineered, stimulated to reactivate forgotten memories?

Emperor Gao Wen’s “Neural Electrocution Helmet Manuscript” had already figured out the external device, but got stuck in the field of neural sciences–unable to determine where to start or how to stimulate using electrical currents.

And now, with Du Yao’s flash of inspiration.

Perhaps.

This could finally open that door!

“Thank you, Lin Xian.”

Du Yao whispered:

“It seems the flash of inspiration we’ve been waiting for didn’t come from me, but from you.”

“No.”

Lin Xian turned his head, and both stared at Tang Xin’s grave:

“If anyone deserves the thanks, it’s Tang Xin. It was her who inspired us, allowing us to grasp onto this last desperate hope.”

Du Yao bent down, adjusted the bouquet of lilies again, then stood up:

“Let’s go back, Lin Xian.”

Her gaze firm:

“Breaking through the field of neural science, creating the Neural Electrocution Helmet as soon as possible–that would be the greatest comfort we could offer to Tang Xin.”

The two took one last look.

Then turned around, walking away toward the warm early spring sunlight, through fields where tender shoots had just begun to sprout.

…

In the days that followed, within the dream, Lin Xian still rode his motorcycle every day, aimlessly exploring.

The end of the world.

This was truly the end of the world.

But not Earth’s apocalypse, because everything here was so peaceful and calm–the sun bright, life flourishing.

Yet one thing was missing: humanity.

This was an apocalypse belonging solely to humans, a world devoid of humanity.

“Holy shit!”

Screeeech——–

Suddenly, Lin Xian’s speeding motorcycle came to a sharp halt! Sparks flew from its brakes!

Lin Xian had grown accustomed to smooth roads, always throttling his engine at full speed–but utterly without warning!

Right ahead amidst the vast plains appeared a gargantuan, bottomless fissure–a yawning chasm in the Earth!

Because the terrain was so flat, coupled with the high speed and fatigued driving, Lin Xian didn’t notice it until it was too late.

Abandon the bike!

Thanks to countless life-and-death experiences in The First Dreamland, Lin Xian decisively leapt off the motorcycle, rolling several times on the ground before grabbing onto a rock to stop himself.

Raising his head…

His trusty motorcycle, which had accompanied him through endless days and nights, plunged straight into the abyss like a shooting star. He waited a long while before hearing it crash at the bottom.

Lin Xian stood up.

Standing beside the fissure that had suddenly appeared on the plains, he looked down.

Indeed, it was deep.

“Farewell, dear Moto.”

He murmured:

“See you tomorrow.”

Today marked the first time he rode his motorcycle southwestward.

Every other direction had already been explored, so he began studying this area as part of his methodical search.

“This kind of fissure definitely stems from intense geological activity, most likely from an earthquake.”

Lin Xian analyzed.

The East Sea wasn’t traditionally a seismic hotspot, especially given his current location, which should fall within Fujian’s borders–what kind of tectonic activity could result in such massive cracks?

From a geographical perspective, it didn’t seem plausible.

So…

“It probably traces back to the catastrophic disaster of the year 2600.”

With numerous clues still unclear, he could only attribute it to the catastrophic earthquake of 2600 for now.

“Hmm?”

Lin Xian squinted, gazing toward the opposite side of the fissure.

And noticed.

There was a modernized cave!

He immediately began running, closing the distance to observe more closely.

It wasn’t a natural cave.

It looked more like a modern underground base, ripped apart midsection, violently torn into two halves, scattered within the chasm.

When Lin Xian finally found the right angle to see the equipment inside…

He gasped:

“[Underground Hibernation Base!]”

This, arguably.

Was the greatest discovery in months!

Previously, Lin Xian had imagined there might be underground hibernation bases buried deep in the Earth.

But.

With no landmarks or access lifts on the surface, he couldn’t pinpoint their locations.

What’s more, even if he could pinpoint them, what good would it do?

He didn’t even have a shovel, let alone the ability to excavate dozens–or hundreds–of meters deep to find those bases.

“It’s a blessing from the skies…”

This stroke of luck truly felt heaven-sent.

In the year 2600, a mysterious earthquake tore the Earth apart, exposing the Underground Hibernation Base before Lin Xian’s eyes.

Inside were numerous Hibernation Pods.

But they all appeared severely damaged, scattered haphazardly; it was uncertain whether any survivors remained.

“I have to try my luck.”

Lin Xian clasped his hands together, bowed in prayer.
