Chapter 2921 Reinforcements
The celestial energy beam attack from the spawns did not completely destroy the insect nest. Instead, it stirred the nest and the Seed of Ouroboros into agitation. Charlene exhausted her mental strength trying to control the swarm and could no longer sustain it.
By now, the Federation’s military department had been fully mobilized, with nearly all forces gathered to deal with the swarm.
Without Charlene’s assistance, the continued stalemate truly risked the swarm breaking through the outer perimeter lock.
That would be trouble!
Should they seek assistance from other departments of the Western District Federation?
Unless absolutely necessary, Captain Gisele did not want to take that step.
Just hold on a bit longer!
Suddenly, a Federation soldier noticed something, his heart skipping a beat. He shouted, “Captain! Detected a strong spatial fluctuation–it’s the spawns’ transition system! They’re here to reinforce us!”
Gisele’s eyes lit up.
Could it be reinforcements from the spawns’ alliance?
Was luck really on their side?
Before the battle started, the Federation had already posted a mission on the spawns’ network mission system.
But due to the Federation offering a low reward, and humanity’s low status within the spawns’ hierarchy, Captain Gisele had been well aware that the likelihood of the mission being picked up by allies was slim.
He hadn’t expected anyone to come at all.
Yet now they were here?
Not far from the right rear of the ship, space slowly tore open, blooming with rings of deep blue light.
The light condensed into a blue halo.
A medium-sized ship gradually emerged from the transition space.
Huh? A medium-sized spawn ship?
It didn’t seem to be of a high level.
Gisele turned his head, peering through the high-pressure glass toward the transition zone, his eyes gradually narrowing with suspicion.
Why did this ship look so familiar?
The more he looked, the more familiar it seemed. When most of the ship’s hull was visible, realization dawned on him.
The Star River?
Wasn’t it severely damaged and awaiting rescue?
How had it transitioned here?
After a successful transition, the Star River slowly joined the front lines, attempting to hover alongside Gisele’s ship in midair.
Gisele immediately said, “Attempt to establish a communications network with the Star River.”
“Understood!”
While the staff member worked on the connection, the Star River had already entered battle mode, activating its defensive barrier and swiftly approaching the Lanxing ship.
Huh?
Suddenly, a soldier noticed something and couldn’t help exclaiming, “Look! On the ship–what’s that?”
Everyone turned toward the screen that the soldier pointed at.
It was focused on the Star River.
Mutant worms?
What the hell?
Gray-brown mutant worms were crawling out of various exits of the Star River, spreading along the ship, and gathering on both sides of the deck.
At the same time, the Star River trembled slightly as it entered a defensive line setup mode, expanding wide battle decks on either side.
What was going on?
What were those mutant worms?
The screen showed a dense stream of worms continuously emerging from crevices in the Star River, almost instantly covering the extended battle decks. They clung to the ship’s exterior, with some even attaching to the bottom of the deck.
“That’s…”
Captain Gisele squinted.
Weren’t those Fang Heng’s summoned creatures?
So Fang Heng was on that ship?
What were the mutant worms gathering on the deck for?
The Federation soldiers were still puzzled when suddenly, the Licker swarm changed.
The Lickers clung tightly to the deck, limbs gripping for stability. From the lower part of their bodies, thin blood vessels extended, anchoring them firmly to the ship. Their back muscles and bones protruded, forming dark cannon muzzles.
The muzzles adjusted rapidly, aiming at the swarm ahead.
“Zzzzz! Zzzzzzzzz!”
In a flash, dense crimson fire blasts rained down upon the swarm!
Captain Gisele’s pupils suddenly contracted.
Those things…
Biological cannons!?
“Boom! Boom boom boom!!!!”
The next moment, fireballs exploded in the swarm, blasting through wave after wave of advancing mutant worms in an eruption of blood and flesh!
The Federation soldiers were stunned. Glancing nervously at the Star River ship approaching from behind, their eyes were full of awe and disbelief.
Well, d*mn.
There was actually a trick like this?
At that point, the entire ship’s exterior appeared to be wrapped in a layer of brownish mutant creatures.
The biological cannons had a high attack frequency, and paired with their wide-area effects and strong impact, they successfully forced the advancing swarm to retreat on the first wave of assault.
Just moments ago, Captain Gisele had been cursing the idiots in the Inspection Department. Now, he was overjoyed.
Fang Heng!
That kid!
Always full of surprises!
As expected, the fools at the Inspection Department could never contain him!
Captain Gisele turned and asked, “Have we connected with the Star River?”
The operator snapped out of it and furiously tapped at the keyboard, “Still connecting. The signal’s being disrupted by the insect nest’s frequency ripples. We need more time–please wait a moment.”
A short while later, Gisele’s ship successfully connected to the Star River’s communications channel.
“Hahaha.”
As soon as the connection was established, Captain Zoran’s hearty laughter came through.
At first, even Zoran had been shocked by the swarm of summoned creatures controlled by Fang Heng. Seeing how powerful they were, he burst out laughing and said, “Gisele! Bet you didn’t expect it to be me, huh?”
“Definitely didn’t.”
Gisele praised inwardly and responded via the comms channel, “Zoran, the prism defensive line is already fully deployed. The seventh cleansing round will start in eight minutes. I’ve transmitted the attack range to you. Try to force the swarm back into the strike zone. Be sure to evacuate the area before the cleansing starts.”
“Got it.”
Zoran turned to Fang Heng beside him.
Fang Heng nodded lightly, indicating it wouldn’t be a problem.
So all they needed to do now was hold the swarm back for a while?
He’d heard about the spawns’ long-range prism defense array being incredibly powerful.
He hadn’t yet witnessed it firsthand.
Some of the lickers leapt from the ship, using stealth skills to ambush targets outside the prism defense line’s attack zone in preparation for the next wave.
The rest remained in position on the ship, continuing to fire long-range biological cannons at the swarm.
With the combined firepower of the two ships, the swarm’s assault was completely suppressed.
Due to the massive size of the swarm, encounters with commander-level and elite-level mutant worms became much more frequent.
And thanks to the swarm’s cannon-style area attacks, Fang Heng casually racked up some contribution points as well.
The two ships advanced side by side, steadily forcing the swarm back toward the purification zone.
