Chapter 2922 The Front Line
Wayne and the other players remained inside the main cabin of the mothership, observing the outside world through the front glass.
Prism defensive line?
It sounded impressive, but no one really knew what it actually was.
The eight-minute countdown ended!
Most of the swarm had been pushed back into the attack zone of the prism defensive line.
It was coming!
Fang Heng suddenly sensed an intense spatial fluctuation. He immediately looked up toward the high skies outside the ship.
In the distance, heavy, dark clouds loomed over the sky. From within the clouds, points of spatial fluctuations began to blossom.
The spatial fluctuations quickly connected, forming a shimmering rift.
From the spatial rift, rows of black cannon muzzles gradually emerged.
“Energy cannons?”
Zaka looked up into the sky and was surprised to see the large-caliber muzzles forming in mid-air, with energy ripples building within them.
“Buzz…!”
High-density energy beams rapidly gathered in the cannon mouths.
“Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!!!”
In an instant, dazzling violet energy beams burst forth from the cannons!
“Boom!!!”
The beams instantly struck the “purification zone” that Captain Gisele had designated beforehand.
Suddenly, everything before them was engulfed in a sea of violet.
Wayne and the other players saw this kind of high-tech weapon for the first time and were visibly shocked.
To the naked eye, nearly the entire swarm was purified instantly under the bombardment of the energy beams, but the ground hit by the beams showed no visible damage.
Fang Heng asked, “Captain Zoran, are those high-tier beam weapons of the spawns?”
Zoran nodded and replied, “Yes. These weapons were developed specifically to purify the Seed of Ouroboros. They can perform cross-world attacks, but require a prism network system to lock onto the target before firing, and each attack doesn’t last very long.”
“Running one of these costs a lot of contribution points, too.”
It was obvious the Federation military had used this weapon before. Zoran continued, “Also, these beams only affect lifeforms. They cause very little damage to the world’s main structure.”
Next to him, Arkley was stunned by the weapon and asked, “Couldn’t this thing just target the whole world directly? Wouldn’t that be easier?”
“In theory, yes. But that would disperse the attack power, shorten the duration, and cost even more contribution points.”
Zoran glanced at Arkley and turned his gaze back outside the ship. “Currently, the beam strength can instantly kill A-level and lower nests, but it still can’t completely wipe out high-level nests.”
“Repeated attacks can gradually wear them down until they’re completely destroyed.”
Su Guantong looked at the continuing violet beams and asked, “How many times has this been used now?”
From the long-range comms, Captain Gisele’s voice came through. “Seventh strike so far. We’ve confirmed that all nests within the target range have been destroyed except for the last SS-level nest, which remains.”
“This strike lasted 2 minutes and 25 seconds. After the attack ends, there will be a brief vacuum period before the swarm returns. We’ll use that window to go deeper into the nest zone and try to damage the core of the SS-level nest.”
He paused, then added, “We’ve got enough points for seven more long-range strikes. We must destroy the SS-level nest before we run out. I’m counting on you all.”
Captain Zoran responded firmly, “Understood!”
2 minutes and 55 seconds later, the attack ended.
As the violet beams on the battlefield faded, the scalding prism cannons in the sky retracted back into the spatial transmission passage.
Looking out from the ship again, the area ahead looked completely purified, with no trace of mutant worms remaining.
Even the creep and the leftover limbs of the dead swarm had been completely cleansed.
The two ships moved side by side, slowly advancing toward the center of the nest.
Fang Heng said, “Captain, I’ll go take a look outside.”
“Alright. We’ll maneuver the ship to support your actions. Be careful.”
Fang Heng stepped onto the starboard deck of the ship and looked out toward the depths of the nest.
The two ships were already sailing quickly, closing in on the central SS-level nest.
Seed of Ouroboros.
Fang Heng stared intently at the towering insect nest that gradually emerged in the distance.
The nest had suffered heavy damage from the high-frequency energy beams. The creep polymers on its body were rapidly expanding and contracting. Its HP was down to one-third.
The nest showed incredible regeneration, healing its surface wounds at a visible pace. Meanwhile, patches of creep continued to fall from its body, spreading rapidly across the ground.
From beneath the creep, swarms of creep worms burst out and charged toward the two Federation ships.
“Zing! Zing zing zing!!!”
The ships identified the incoming swarm, and both beam weapons and the Licker swarm’s firepower erupted together, tearing through the charging bugs!
Hmm?
Fang Heng furrowed his brow and looked toward the starboard side of the ship.
“Boom!!!!”
Suddenly, giant barbed flesh spikes burst out from the ground!
“Bang!!”
The flesh spikes struck the ship’s outer barrier with a heavy crash.
“Zing! Zing zing!”
The Lickers and the ship’s beam cannons focused their firepower on the flesh spikes, causing multiple explosions.
Taking massive damage, the spikes quickly retreated underground.
Fang Heng frowned, staring forward.
In an instant, numerous giant flesh spikes shot up from the ground around the SS-level nest, wildly whipping through the air and blocking most of the ship’s ranged attacks.
The entire SS-level nest now resembled a massive octopus lurking beneath the earth.
This wasn’t good.
The Federation team had already approached the Seed of Ouroboros nest twice before, only to be forced back by these giant flesh spikes.
But this time was different!
With the Lickers’ firepower boost, Fang Heng and the team were able to repel the spikes! More beam weapons and biological cannons broke through the spike defenses and blasted the nest, splashing foul-smelling mucus.
Fang Heng focused his gaze on the spikes.
It was clear that the spikes were part of the Seed of Ouroboros.
Looking closely, each giant spike had an eyeball-like structure at its tip.
Any attack that landed on the eyeballs was blocked by an invisible barrier.
That was likely their weak point.
Go!
“Whoosh!”
Fang Heng lightly pushed off the deck and leapt from the ship, charging at the flesh spikes of the Seed of Ouroboros.
This time, he didn’t use his spirit abilities. He planned to break through with sheer physical strength!
