Chapter 403: Chapter 405: When Players Gain the Power of the Evil God…
“Great Twilight Sovereign, I am your most loyal servant, and I offer you rich flesh and blood as a sacrifice, humbly beseeching a sliver of power as a reward.
Praise be to you, ruler of ancient days, eternal Twilight Sovereign…”
In a small town about two hundred kilometers from Green City, a gloomy voice slowly emanated from a cellar corner of a dark, dilapidated manor.
If commoners heard this terrifying intonation, they would undoubtedly fall into madness.
For this was the prayer of Evil God believers, an offering to those malevolent beings lurking in the abyss, the most chilling horror to the bone.
But just outside the cellar, the idle chatter of two bored young men seemed to dispel much of this malicious atmosphere.
“Big Head, do you think it’s true that my girlfriend said she was staying over at her bestie’s house last night?”
The voice made it clear that they were two adventurers from the Lost Plane–those famously known as–silly players.
The player dressed as a Mage couldn’t help but curl his lips disdainfully, “Your girlfriend staying at her bestie’s? Why would you doubt something like that?”
The assassin player seemed hesitant, “But when I called her, she said she was out jogging, her voice was always breathless, and it sounded like a bed or a dresser was rhythmically thumping in the background… And she didn’t want to video chat, why do you think that is?”
The Mage player’s expression stiffened, waving his hand, “You’re overthinking it, when you’re jogging, it’s easy to bump into stuff, right?”
The assassin player furrowed his eyebrows even tighter, “Is that so?”
The Mage player quickly responded, “Of course, why would I lie to you? We’re brothers, aren’t we?”
The assassin player let out a deep sigh, “But her bestie stayed over at my house last night…”
The Mage player’s face froze again, looking at him incredulously, “Say that again?”
The assassin player glanced at him, dismissively saying, “Why would I lie to you, that’s why I’m wondering…”
The Mage player exploded with anger, “Damn it! Isn’t your girlfriend’s bestie my girlfriend’s bestie???”
The assassin player’s expression stiffened, slightly confused, “Really? Didn’t you break up with your girlfriend?”
“Shit, if I don’t beat you to shit today, I’ll kneel and call you Daddy…” The Mage player could never have imagined the fire was going to burn himself.
Leaping to his feet, the magic in his hands began to surge with anger.
“Stop, stop~ Holy shit, we’re all brothers, it doesn’t need to come to this,”
“Brothers my ass, if it wasn’t for me sleeping with your girlfriend last night, I’d be the sucker today!”
“What?? You bastard! You’re the one??!! I knew something was off with you last night!! Damn it, I’m going to kill you today!!”
The two idiots sprang up, roaring and ready to fight, when suddenly from the cellar they were guarding, a figure in black priest’s robes stepped out.
Seeing the two players behaving as if they were fighting to the death, he became extremely angry.
“What the hell are you doing?! Pack up, we’re leaving. Tonight’s ritual is done; just one more sacrifice to that stupid Ancient God and we’ll be rolling in it.”
Still unwilling to back off, they glared at each other.
“Boss, this bastard stole my girlfriend!”
“Boss, he’s the one who started it!!”
“It’s him!!”
“…”
After listening for a while, the priest player curled his lips in displeasure, “What are you bickering about? Over such a trivial matter?
I’ll take you to Heaven on Earth tonight and get each of you three oirans, what more could you want?!”
The two immediately lit up at the mention–three?
After exchanging a glance, they both snorted coldly, retracted their weapons, and said no more.
The priest player, not caring about the details, excitedly announced,
“I’ve already won the trust of the Ancient Evil God. Just one more sacrifice of a thousand people and we can become the spokespeople for this damn kid.”
“A thousand people? Boss, where are we going to find so many people?”
Though the assassin player was still rankled, he held back and asked, “And a mass evil sacrifice will surely alert the churches in the city.
Recently, with the Fierce Half-Ratmen running amok outside Green City, those NPCs are terrifyingly strong. If our identity as Evil God believers is exposed, we’ll definitely be stuck at the Life Goddess’ temple’s resurrection point with no way out.
Damn, these NPCs are pissing me off, blocking the resurrection points like that!!
What a bullshit game, not giving any way out!!”
The more the assassin player spoke, the angrier he got. What kind of game has NPCs block players’ resurrection points to kill them?
But this broken game allowed it, and if the NPCs got feisty, blocking for ten days to half a month was normal.
Last time he tried flirting with a noble NPC and accidentally revealed his Evil God believer identity, he was trapped half a month without leaving the Life Goddess’ temple and almost went crazy with anger.
The priest player chuckled, “Do you remember our last experiment?”
“Our last experiment?” The Mage player’s eyes brightened up at the mention, “Are you talking about the experiment using players as sacrifices?”
“Exactly! We can’t do NPC sacrifices, but using players is possible!!” The priest rubbed his chin, his smile growing increasingly twisted.
“NPCs are tough to deal with, but aren’t players tough too?”
“Boss, what are you planning to do?”
“How? By throwing money around, of course! I might have nothing else, but I’m rich. Just you watch, I’ve already sold twelve properties, and I’m ready to go big on this one!”
“Boss, really? You sold your property?”
“Yeah, I’m holding on to the other hundred or so for now.”
“Damn…”
After discussing for a moment, the priest player suddenly seemed to remember something and asked curiously, “Have you heard of Lord Kachar?”
“Lord Kachar?” Both players were perplexed.
“Is that an NPC? Being addressed with ‘Lord’–could they be Transcendent?”
The priest player shook his head, “No, it’s not an NPC. That Ancient Evil God just asked me about Lord Kachar…
But what do I know about Lord Kachar? Even the Twilight Sovereign ordered me to find traces of Lord Kachar after hearing that.”
Having said that and stroking his chin, he looked pensive, “I asked the other side, and although the Twilight Sovereign didn’t explain why, they seemed quite angry.
I suspect this is another epic Super Quest.
Think about it, the Ancient Evil Gods are about to descend soon.
And these powerful gods are urging me to do this before their descent–what does that tell you? It means this matter is extremely urgent to them, they can’t wait any longer.
Also, the title ‘Lord’ is presumably designated for those above Transcendent.
And judging by the way they asked, I deduce that Lord Kachar must have offended some Ancient Evil God, and they can’t even wait a day to deal with him.
So for our next mission, we must not only carry out the Blood Sacrifice to gain the Ancient Evil God’s power but also seek out information on Lord Kachar.”
Hearing this, the two players lit up, intrigued by the prospect.
“Boss, since you’ve already decided, here’s how we could proceed:
First, spend money to hire players to make sacrifices automatically. To those NPCs, we adventurers from the Lost Plane are all morons, they couldn’t care less what we do.
So, the chances of the NPCs discovering that we’re Evil God believers must be quite slim.
Second, issue paid quests for players to gather information about Lord Kachar, or even post similar messages in the adventurer’s guild. Otherwise, relying solely on ourselves to collect the information, the efficiency will undoubtedly be very low.”
“Hmm, that makes sense, let’s do it that way. I’ll leave these two tasks to you–each of you take one, and let me know how much money you need!”
The priest player nodded in satisfaction.
The two players exchanged a look, sparks flying, then, making sure there were no issues, they both logged off to return to their quarters.
After logging off, both immediately picked up their phones to call their girlfriends…
Meanwhile, far from this small town, in Risier City, in the Dead Silence Land left by the God of Plague, teeming with Fierce Half-Ratmen.
A dozen players cautiously made their way into the city.
The leader was a priest dressed in a long robe, his physique even more robust than that of a normal warrior.
“Guild leader, this is amazing, this mission item actually allows us to enter safely, look, those Fierce Half-Ratmen are right there and not attacking us.”
The leading priest chuckled arrogantly, “What do you know? I paid a hefty price for this top-tier mission item.
It cost me the equivalent of one house.”
“Damn, guild leader, you really went all in this time.”
“Guild leader is the bomb, my eternal god…”
“Guild leader, I don’t want to try anymore, waaaah.”
“Go away, you deadbeat, you’re grossing me out…”
“You guys don’t get it,” the priest guild leader snorted with disdain, “This game is changing the real world. Recently, who knows how many big consortia have been pouring money into it, all for the next big break.
Make no mistake, ‘Glory’ right now is Earth’s biggest opportunity.
As long as we seize a chance, we can make our initial investment back in no time.
Forget a house, even a private jet would be a small matter…”
“Is this the legendary art of bragging?”
“Guild leader is truly insightful, perhaps you are the reincarnation of Zhuge Liang?”
“Guild leader surely has impressive confidence, nothing to argue with…”
“Guild leader, I won’t lock my door tonight…”
As the group shot the breeze, they slowly neared the central area of Risier City.
The current Risier City was far cry from its original bustling appearance.
Gloomy and terrifying would be the best description.
Because of the Ancient Evil God, at this time, Risier City and its surroundings for a hundred miles were all enveloped in dark clouds, and the dense clouds made the light extremely dim.
More crucial was–the Fierce Half-Ratmen.
The space rift that had not closed, and was even growing wider, continued to spew out Fierce Half-Ratmen endlessly.
Added to the continuous emergence of an evil aura, this area had thoroughly become the Land of Dead Silence; no one could break in.
It was rumored that the Extraordinary Mage of Green City–Lord Rock had once paused in the distance of Risier City, but he also did not dare to enter deeply.
Even Transcendents were like this, let alone ordinary people. There was a great horror here that no one knew about.
Ruined walls, shattered streets, decrepit armor, and half-buried skeletons and corpses in the mud…
All of this indicated that this city had once faced a terribly horrifying war.
The deeper these players went towards the city center, the quieter their voices became.
Because on the ruins around them, swarms of Fierce Half-Ratmen were moving about–these servants of the Divine’s terrifying appearance, combined with the gloomy environment, chilled the spines of these players who traveled in groups.
“This damn game isn’t supposed to be a horror game, so why is it so creepy?”
“I’m telling you, there are really ghosts in ‘Glory,’ as well as grudges, and zombies…”
“Fuck, stop scaring people…”
The Priest Guild leader walking in front also felt somewhat chilled. If possible, he really did not want to come to this kind of place.
But thinking of the large investment he had made, he had to at least break even.
He could only brace himself and keep moving forward.
After a full Sunshine Hour, at the central area of Risier City, this once-main battlefield was once again filled with Fierce Half-Ratmen.
The vast numbers were terrifying, with probably more than hundreds of thousands–enough to make anyone with a fear of clusters break out in a cold sweat and grow weak at the knees.
No matter what it was, when a certain number was reached, it would appear extremely unsettling.
At this time, the Priest Guild leader felt even his blood getting cold. A careless move in such a place could lead to a catastrophe…and being killed directly would not matter as much, but it was torturous to be continuously in such a cold and tense environment.
Finally, under the leadership of the Priest Guild leader, a group of players, enduring the chill, made their way through the swarm of Fierce Half-Ratmen and approached the ruined Black Altar.
Behind the Black Altar, Fierce Half-Ratmen were still endlessly crawling out of the spatial rift.
It was like the gaping maw of the abyss, enough to make anyone tremble.
“Guild leader, what do we do next?”
Seeing about a dozen players looking at him intently, the Priest Guild leader bit his teeth; now was not the time to show weakness in front of his subordinates.
He suddenly raised the stone he had been gripping tightly.
Then with a solemn face, he stepped forward, and finally knelt cleanly before the altar, beginning to recite the prayer he had purchased at a high price.
“Mighty Ancient Dominator, eternal God of Plague, your worshipper, your humble servant, offers you the highest greeting, pleading for your gaze…”
After a long prayer was finished, for a long while, all remained quiet.
The Fierce Half-Ratmen were still emerging slowly from the space rift, as if they saw them not.
And the surroundings did not produce the spectacular scene of heaven and earth changing color as imagined by the group of players.
A dozen players saw this scene and looked at each other; the atmosphere turned awkward for a moment.
“Guild leader, were you swindled?”
How could he have been swindled?
The Priest Guild leader was furious, turning his head to glare fiercely at these few guys, and then repeated the prayer again.
But still, all was quiet–no sign of anything happening…
“Impossible!!! I must not have been loud enough!!
Mighty Ancient Dominator, majestic God of Suppression, your worshipper…”
The third time… still useless.
The incredulous Priest Guild leader recited it again, the fourth time, the fifth time… until after the thirtieth time with still no response, he finally despaired.
He violently stood up, then in front of all the players’ gaze, he stomped on the altar and pointed upwards at the sky.
“Fuck your grandma’s Evil God, are you fucking coming out or not?!!!”
After these words fell, it was as if something had been triggered.
Boom–The sky changed color as thunder rumbled in the clouds.
From the spatial channel behind the Dark Altar, a wave of indescribable evil aura suddenly surged out, like the eyes of the abyssal Evil God opening and staring at them.
“Who is calling me…”
Upon hearing these words, the eyes of the group of players widened, then they exchanged looks with each other…the expressions on their faces extremely subtle.
“Fuck, this Evil God is a masochist, huh? Doesn’t show up when called nicely, but comes when cursed…”
“Ha ha ha, what kind of bullshit Evil God, this is killing me…”
“Keep it down, will you? Don’t start trouble blabbering.”
The priest guild master’s face stiffened, a head full of question marks???
But once he snapped out of it, he hurriedly put his feet back down and knelt again with devout sincerity.
He had knelt so many times already; one more wouldn’t hurt. This time, he had to make up for his losses.
“My Lord, I am your loyal believer who has received a token scattered by you…”
After saying that, he raised the stone high, and at that moment, the unremarkable corpse suddenly emitted an indescribable fluctuation of dark energy.
The space around him rippled in waves.
That gray aura of evil felt the stone and instantly grew excited, quickly spreading through the Space Gate; in the blink of an eye, the stone in the priest guild master’s hand disappeared.
“Very well, my loyal believer, I am pleased with your offering!
Step through the Space Gate, and I shall grant you the power to hunt down my enemies…”
Overjoyed at these words, the priest guild master quickly got to his feet and stepped through the Space Gate amid the envious gazes of other players.
A day later.
The player forum was abuzz with excitement.
Because some players had seen someone actually commanding the monstrous servants of the Evil God–the Fierce Half-Ratmen.
And the number they controlled even reached tens of thousands, which was insanely exaggerated!
Moreover, many people recognized the player who controlled the Fierce Half-Ratmen; he was the guild master of a mid-sized guild in Green City.
This discovery caused a huge stir among the players.
Recently, as the Evil God broke free, a large number of monsters appeared.
Most players just treated the minions of the Evil God as targets for killing and leveling up, even as a specially provided leveling dungeon by the game.
But who would have thought that now someone could control these monsters?
Doesn’t this mean that there may be an Evil God Camp hidden in “Glory”?
This discovery made many ambitious players go crazy, going to explore the remnants of the Evil God overnight.
Although most of the players got wiped out by those monsters, believe it or not, a few players gained the favor of the Evil God through shameless efforts.
Although they were only granted a small portion of power, it was enough to crush most players at the current stage; these lucky ones instantly became the top tier players, unrivaled and envied.
This made many players red with envy.
Meanwhile, another event directly pushed the exploration of the Evil God’s remnants to a climax–the player who could command the Fierce Half-Ratmen spoke up.
He claimed that he had become the messenger of the Ancient Evil God–God of Plague, and now any player willing to convert could come to him. If they joined the Ancient Evil God’s Camp, he would reward each person with 100 Fierce Half-Ratmen.
He had only one goal: the archenemy of the Ancient Evil God was none other than Lord Ilo of Green City. Hence, any player joining the Ancient Evil God’s organization must be an enemy of Green City and Lord Ilo.
Furthermore, all players had to gather information about Lord Ilo and report back as soon as they found anything; there would be significant rewards from the Ancient Evil God.
Although Lord Ilo’s scene of crushing three Transcendents in Risier City still remains worshiped to this day, what are players?
Beings who fear neither heaven nor earth, they care not how formidable you are, so many players were tempted.
And the Ancient Evil God isn’t so bad, right? Just sealed away after being overpowered, who knows who might win if the Ancient days return.
The key point is the immediate benefits, an irresistible temptation for fence-sitters.
Just by joining the God of Plague’s camp, you could get 100 Fierce Half-Ratmen; to most players, this was an irresistible lure.
The mainstream player level is currently only Level 4, with only a small portion of elites reaching Level 5, and the top players are at Levels 7 or 8. But the levels of Fierce Half-Ratmen are above 7 or 8.
This would give them power a hundred times stronger than theirs; the temptation is too great.
Whichever way the wind blows, that’s their direction.
Within just a week, an organization called by the forum players as the Ancient Camp emerged out of nowhere, and the number of players who joined was up to tens of thousands.
And everyone was given an unprecedented Epic quest–kill Lord Ilo, the ultimate task.
The subordinate quests–like gathering information on Lord Ilo, learning about his past, etc., also carried rich rewards. With the returns being so abundant, a large number of regular players joined because it was too hard to make it in the Light Camp, and it was more practical to defect.
All of a sudden, the vicinity of Green City became a highly dangerous area, because you never knew when you’d see a player with hundreds of Level 7 or 8 Fierce Half-Ratmen.
Ordinary players had no chance against these players of the Evil God Camp on their own, and for a time, the players from the Evil God Camp surged in status.
They were becoming Green City players’ number one enemy.
A group of players with the ultimate goal of taking down Lord Ilo officially came together, almost like a team ready to push a boss in a dungeon raid.
Along with that, the forum saw numerous paid tasks seeking out Lord Kachar’s whereabouts, and due to the high bounties offered, many players were mobilized.
The area around Green City became chaotic in a way nobody expected.
