Sohee’s Choice (1)

The first thing to do was to locate Deon. She thought her mission wasn’t that difficult since Mary was a good informant than she thought. Indeed, a chatterbox had its use. However, brakes were immediately applied at the start, which she assumed to be smooth.

“I’m sorry, Lady Ariad. I asked the servants here carefully but everyone said he was kicked out to a faraway area. No one knew the exact location.”

“Really?”

“His Highness also ordered all the newspapers in this palace to be removed, so everyone, including the servants, has no idea what was going on with the world.”

Mary’s shoulders drooped at the thought of not being a good help. Along with her, So-hee also lost strength in her limbs. She wasn’t in the condition to step up and find information. If she did that, her plan would reveal itself soon in this place where Joshua’s hands and feet were planted. Even though her bedroom lock was removed, she still wasn’t free from the eyes of others. Eventually, Sohee had no choice but to find something she could do in the corner of the room. Sohee closed her eyes to ponder.  It was hard for anyone to know where Duke Filtmore was exiled to. If the reason why people couldn’t figure it out was that all of the newspapers were being hidden———

If the reason why you don’t know the information is that everyone is distant from the news of the world by putting away the newspaper… .

“Then can we acquire a newspaper?”

“What?”

“At the time of Deon’s departure, a word of his news must have been written in one.”

“You’re right.” said Mary, who clapped her hands brightly again.

“If you’re looking for a newspaper, there’s no problem. My brother dreams of entering a newspaper company in the future so I have all the recently published newspapers at home.”

“Really? That’s good.”

“But if I bring all those newspapers, I will have a hard time since they’re a handful.Can I find the information you need there, instead?”

That would be the same. Her method was rather ignorant since it would take them a long time. She would easily get caught if she piled them up and read them one by one.

“It’ll be easier to sort out if you knew the date he left.”

Sohee tried to remember the last day she saw Deon. Months had already passed so she couldn’t think of the exact date. However, there was one thing that she remembered clearly. A few days after meeting Deon, there was an opening ceremony. As soon as she realized that, something flashed through her mind.

“No, Mary. I don’t think you need to bring the newspapers.”

“What?”

Mary looked questionably at So-hee, who suddenly got up from her bed. Soon after confirming the object she pulled from the narrow table drawer, she got the idea as was a daily newspaper Mary had brought. That day, she even complimented that Ariad’s face came out well. The newspaper was published the day after the opening ceremony, so maybe the news about Deon was written here too. Sohee opened the daily newspaper she had put away after reading Ariad’s story. The small letters were written densely, so she rubbed her eyes after reading for a while but when she went to the last page———-

‘Eureka!’ Swallowing what she wanted to scream, So-hee fisted her hands, instead.

“By the way, where is Ordin?”

She had never written that place in her novel before.

“It’s an area where a blockade was issued due to a severe epidemic. The fatality rate is no joke.”

After listening to Mary’s words, So-hee nodded as if she wasn’t surprised.

Joshua kept his word that he wouldn’t kill him, but he threw Deon in an environment where he might as well die. After confirming such a strong stance, Sohee gradually gained confidence in the path she had chosen.

“Is there any way to get there?”

“It’s possible with the royal family’s permission.”

Sohee was in trouble again. Nothing seemed to work out in her favor. The moment she was granted permission as the Crown Princess, it would feel like she was going around the neighborhood to spread rumors about herself so it was impossible for her to go. Sending Mary away wasn’t a good move, either.

Just then, Mary muttered as if she had thought of something. “My younger brother said that the reporter who visited his class is going to cover that place.”

“The reporter who’s close to your brother?”

“They’re not close yet. He just found him adorable.”

Unlike earlier, when Mary bragged about her younger brother as much as she could, she seemed to have lost her confidence now. However, it wasn’t important to Sohee at all since she had already seen the light.

“Mary, you’re amazing.”

“What do you mean?”

“I think you’re the best in the world. You’re so lovely!”

Mary’s earlobes reddened from her sincere words.

So-hee’s affectionate gaze landed on her as Mary waved her hands in embarrassment.

“How long will the reporter be in your brother’s class?”

“He said this week will be the last.”

There was a way to reach Deon. With that alone, Sohee felt as if a hole had been opened in her dark future, and the light was spreading in all directions. Despite the cool answer, So-hee didn’t feel relieved as she looked forward to the future. If there was anything she could add to this, it was a bribe. People don’t trust them, but money never betrayed them.
