Chapter 31: He Just Doesn’t Care

The car drove out of the Gu family mansion compound. Gu Qingxin stared out of the window as she sat in the back passenger seat. Meng Zhenglin suddenly leaned close and stationed his body before her. Gu Qingxin turned her head nervously and almost collided with his face.

“What are you doing?” Gu Qingxin asked as she instantly lifted her hand to push him away.

Meng Zhenglin grabbed the seat belt and buckled it for her. With a smile, he said, “It’s better to buckle your seat belt when you’re in a car.”

Gu Qingxin frowned and looked down at the seat belt fastened across her body. She thanked him reluctantly. At the same time, a sense of wariness was aroused in her heart.

“If he really thought that it is not safe for me to not buckle my seat belt, he could have just verbally reminded me. Did he have to do it for me?” she thought.

When she turned her head, her lips nearly brushed against him.

Gu Qingxin immediately looked at the front rear-view mirror. Tang Rongling seemed to be concentrating on driving and had not noticed the situation in the backseat.

Gu Qingxin’s eyes inexplicably watered again. “I was nearly taken advantage of by a stranger right in front of Tang Rongling, yet he remained indifferent,” she thought.

She knew about the second young master of the Meng family. Superficially, he seemed like a modest nobleman. However, he had a notorious reputation within their circle. A woman he impregnated died on the operating table during a botched abortion before he even reached his twenties. He was a man who took pride in womanizing, and nobody knew how many girls he had harmed.

This was something that everybody knew about. Surely, Tang Rongling was not oblivious?

“Of course, he knows about this. He just doesn’t care,” she thought.

It felt like someone had given her a harsh slap.

Meng Zhenglin sat beside her and subtly observed her through his peripheral vision. This girl was so beautiful that he had developed an unbearable itch in his heart, and he wished he could hold her and give her some love this very moment.

“I just remembered that there is a gift in my office. I think it’s very appropriate for Old Madam Gu, why don’t you guys come and pick it up with me?” Meng Zhenglin asked.

Meng Zhenglin and Gu Yunci exchanged a look. She understood what he was trying to do, turned her head, and said gently to Tang Rongling, “Rongling, let’s do that.”

Tang Rongling glanced at the girl in the backseat and was reminded of the Gu family’s intentions, and started to drive toward Meng Zhenglin’s company.

He understood what the Gu family wanted for Gu Qingxin. They were afraid that she would continue to harass him and thus decided to introduce her to the second young master of the Meng family.

The Gu family and Meng family were business partners. With this, the relationship between the two families would grow closer.

“This is a good thing. I have long grown sick of Gu Qingxin’s harassment,” he thought.

Meng Zhenglin claimed that it was his company, but it was in fact a penthouse located on the top floor of an entertainment place. It was a convenient venue for him to bring women back and engage in lustful behavior.

Gu Qingxin followed the three of them into Meng Zhenglin’s ‘office’. Gu Yunci claimed to have left something behind in the car and asked Tang Rongling to accompany her back to the vehicle so she could retrieve it.

After the couple departed, Gu Qingxin immediately became vigilant. She wanted to leave with them, but Meng Zhenglin grabbed her arm.

“Don’t touch me! What do you want? Tang Rongling, don’t leave me behind!” Gu Qingxin instinctively begged Tang Rongling for help, but he only hesitated for a second before he followed Gu Yunci out of the door.

Gu Qingxin watched helplessly as the door slammed shut. She could hear the distinct sounds of her heart-shattering.

“Baby, stop looking at them. The Gu family has already betrothed you to me. As long as you agree to marry me, I promise you that you’ll have a good life in the future,” Meng Zhenglin said as he caressed her tender little face. The skin-contact caused a ripple in his mind.

“Don’t touch me!” Gu Qingxin flung his hand away furiously and slapped him in the face.
