Chapter 361: Chapter 85: Due Date

There are always some things that happen so suddenly, so strangely, and so abruptly that they seem utterly illogical; this is what’s called a qualitative change caused by a quantitative change. When many things converge, they will inevitably cause a fundamental change.

For instance, Willis accepted Adrian’s invitation without any hesitation; the media and film company executives thought investing 200 million to make a movie was crazy, yet they didn’t scoff too much; Cruise, however unwilling, had to play nice and subtly show deference on the phone–of course, mainly because it wasn’t the time to completely fall out, otherwise Adrian would have given him a taste of his own medicine early on.

Why is this so? However, the quantitative changes mentioned above are visible, so the qualitative changes they lead to don’t seem strange, while other quantitative changes are not easily noticeable as they happen quietly in the shadows, making the resulting qualitative changes seem somewhat illogical.

“I was just trying to teach Sarah something.” Liv said with a mischievous smile after the two were startled by Adrian’s entrance, while Sarah, her cheeks flushed with anger, just glared at her, unable to say a word.

That statement immediately revealed a fact: Liv must have been eavesdropping outside the door, and it wasn’t hard to guess what she was thinking. Liv’s character was highly contradictory; sometimes she was quite conservative, like refusing to try new things in bed, but other times she was open-minded and carefree. She had more than once hinted to Adrian that she wanted to taste what it was like with another woman, even indirectly asking him about the feeling of a threesome.

As for Sarah and Liv, the fact they came out of a room together and talked intimately revealed what the two girls had done together the previous night, much to Adrian’s chagrin.

“In fact, last night you didn’t have to pull me away; you could have joined them and shown off your charm,” Adrian teased Charlize in her ear, “It’s not as if it hasn’t been tried before.”

“Yeah, you’re always reminiscent, never satisfied,” Charlize replied with a cold laugh.

“Alright, then maybe after Kate has had her baby, we could…” Adrian raised an eyebrow suggestively.

“You better be careful, you know Kate’s due any day now, better take good care of her first,” Charlize continued her cold scoffing, giving him a glance.

Indeed, the most important event of the entire month of September wasn’t the heated ABC acquisition battle, the post-production of “Braveheart” and “Emma”, the preparations for various new films, training Sarah to cope with Love, but rather Kate’s imminent childbirth after ten months of pregnancy.

“This is it, Mr. Cowell,” the nurse led Adrian, supporting Kate, into the VIP delivery room. Kate’s face and figure had rounded out significantly and she had a big belly, but still managed to look quite beautiful, especially with the glow of motherhood, which was rather attractive.

“The dilation isn’t very large; it might be a few hours more, Mr. Cowell,” the female doctor said after examining Kate, “I will come over to check on your wife from time to time, if there’s any emergency before I get here, press the emergency bell and a nurse will come immediately.”

“Thank you, doctor,” Adrian nodded politely, sending her out before turning back to eye Kate on the bed with teasing interest: “That’s quite a funny position you’re in.”

Dressed in loose clothing with her legs wide apart, Kate glared at him irritably: “Maybe you’d like to try?”

“Let’s not, it’s no use with me like this,” Adrian sat down beside her.

“So, can I take it that you’ve grown a bit tired of staying by my side these past few days?” Kate pressed further.

Adrian raised his eyebrows and immediately caught on to what she was saying. He burst out laughing, “Oh, Kate, dear, is that really what you think of me?”

“Of course,” Kate replied bluntly.

“Well then, I ought to have called more people over,” Adrian said with a deliberately heavy sigh, noting the slight change in Kate’s expression. He quickly changed the subject: “Let’s do something else. The doctor said it’s still a few hours to go.”

It indeed was several hours. They had entered the hospital at 2 p.m., and by 7 p.m., they had already had dinner, but there was still no activity from Kate’s belly. This frustrated Adrian, who had originally thought everything would be done in two to three hours. At first, the female doctor came every half hour, but then it became once an hour.

“It’s gotten a lot bigger, but we still need to wait,” she always said.

“It seems our little one doesn’t want to come out just yet,” Adrian said, caressing Kate’s bulging belly after directing his gaze away from the twinkling lights outside the window, “Already this mischievous, who knows how much trouble they’ll be in the future? And we don’t even know if it’s a boy or a girl.”

“You want to know whether it’s a boy or a girl now? You were the one insisting I shouldn’t have the tests earlier,” said Kate, giving him a look, yet enjoying his touch.

“Of course, a surprise isn’t a surprise if it’s revealed too soon. Wouldn’t it be boring to know in advance?” Adrian said with a shrug and a smile.

“So, do you hope it’s a boy or a girl?” Kate pressed on, looking at him.

“It doesn’t matter. Either way, it’s my child,” Adrian shrugged again.

“There must be a slight preference,” Kate insisted.

“Hmm… then a girl, I guess,” Adrian pondered then responded.

“Why?” Kate asked, curious.

“Because…” Adrian paused deliberately, then flashed a mischievous smile, “If it were a boy, he might compete with me for women in the future.”

Kate’s expression changed instantly, but before she could react, Adrian burst out laughing, “Where did your mind go? I mean that girls are usually closer to their fathers, and boys to their mothers. If it were a boy, I’m afraid you’d be all over him, and I’d be left out.”

Kate was stunned for a few seconds and then started hitting him in frustration.

“Alright, alright, I was just joking,” Adrian embraced her to calm her down, “Boy or girl, either one is our child, right?”

Kate huffed in dissatisfaction and was about to say something when her expression suddenly changed. She began to groan in pain and the bed quickly became wet. Although Adrian didn’t have experience in either of his lives, it did not mean he didn’t know what to do.
