Chapter 434: Chapter 434: Finding Javari, Thoughts and Plans of Various Forces
Bang bang bang bang bang—-
The gunfire this time was much more intense than when the Voycek Mercenary Corps had exchanged fire with human traffickers before, and soon two out of the few mercenaries left guarding the first floor were killed, and the remaining one quickly escaped into the first level of the bunker underground.
“Fu-k!”
Upon hearing this news, Voycek’s face immediately turned terribly unsightly, and he quickly ordered the rest of his team to retreat underground.
Luo An’s expression also changed when he recalled Mona and Caroline outside. Checking his phone and finding no signal, he frowned slightly, unsure of their current situation.
“Aloys!”
Given the urgency of the situation, Voycek subtly glanced at Luo An and gestured to a team member to follow Luo An down to the third level of the bunker.
The first level underground of the bunker was where the human traffickers lived, together with storage rooms for weapons, ammunition, and food.
The second level underground held a large group of abducted women and children, among whom Javari was not found.
Seeing the look Voycek passed him, Aloys pursed his lips and nodded, taking two teammates and continuing downward with Luo An.
A flash of understanding passed through Luo An’s eyes; he had deciphered Voycek’s look. Voycek suspected that the group outside was brought by Luo An, hence he instructed Aloys to kill Luo An first if anything seemed amiss.
Putting himself in their shoes, if he were Luo An, he would make the same decision, so Luo An wasn’t angry, pretending not to see anything but silently becoming more vigilant.
Voycek suspected Luo An might be compromised, and Luo An also doubted that some of Voycek’s men were problematic; perhaps the group outside was arranged by one of Voycek’s men.
Entering the third level underground of the bunker, there were no guards, and the first thing that struck those who walked in was two words: damp and stinky.
Even the three mercenaries led by Aloys, who were used to seeing dead bodies on battlefields, frowned and covered their noses.
Luo An too was overwhelmed by the indescribable foul smell, but with the urgency of time pressing, he quickly walked ahead, checking each room.
Soon, Luo An found Javari Evans in the fifth small room on the left.
At this moment, Javari’s hair and beard were long and unkempt, his eyes sunken, his complexion parched, and he was much thinner than the image in the photos Caroline had provided.
Had it not been for his missing left hand, Luo An wouldn’t have recognized him at first glance.
Hearing Luo An calling him by his name, Javari struggled to turn his head from the bed, his voice hoarse as he asked:
“Who are you?”
“I’m just an ordinary private detective.”
With Aloys and the other mercenaries nearby, and for other reasons, Luo An didn’t disclose his true identity but only mentioned that he was sent by Caroline to rescue Javari.
That said, ignoring Javari’s reaction, Luo An shot the lock off the door, saw that Javari was too weak to get up due to prolonged starvation, and quickly carried him on his shoulder, turning rapidly to exit.
Aloys and the other two mercenaries exchanged glances, noticing nothing amiss, and quickly followed Luo An, hurrying out of the third level underground.
On the second underground level, the rooms were holding a group of women and children, and Luo An broke the locks on their doors as they passed by, but with continuous gunfire above, none of the women and children seemed inclined to come out.
On the first underground level, the sounds of gunfire, shouting, and cursing echoed endlessly, and as Luo An carrying Javari reached this point, a near explosion occurred.
Bang bang bang—-
A burst of gunfire erupted, and the Voycek Mercenary Corps lost another member.
“Y=%#…”
Voycek’s face turned ugly at the sight, cursing a slew of profanities in another language that Luo An couldn’t understand.
Detecting a pungent smell, Voycek instinctively turned his head and saw Luo An carrying Javari. He glanced at Aloys behind Luo An and asked somberly:
“Is this the target person?”
“Yes.”
Due to Luo An’s vigorous running, Javari had passed out.
Luo An, somewhat speechless, put him down, pulled over a corpse, took the bulletproof vest from the corpse and put it on Javari, then drew his handgun and moved behind Voycek, asking:
“Do you know who the other party is?”
“They are also mercenaries.”
Upon hearing this, Voycek instantly burst into a torrent of curses. From his cursing, Luo An found out that the opposing group was a mercenary group known as “Desert Storm,” which had minor conflicts with Voycek’s group in the past. It was unclear who had hired them this time to launch a surprise attack on them.
Using the term “Desert Lion” for the name of the mercenary group felt somewhat low, but Luo An’s attention wasn’t on this. He suddenly remembered the two different documents he had found earlier.
In a safe house, the computer he found contained detailed operational plans and next action orders.
Within the operational plan, the name “Desert Lion” for the mercenary group had appeared.
At that time, Luo An briefly glanced at it and dismissed it from his mind. Now, linking the mercenaries outside with that document, along with Javari’s disappearance and captivity, Luo An’s mind quickly pieced together the general course of events:
There was an insider within the CIA where Javari Evans was.
This insider gave Javari a set of documents with one being fake, resulting in the failure of Javari’s mission.
The real goal of the insider was to have Javari killed during the operation.
However, according to Mona’s interrogation, Brenekoff wanted to extract some information from Javari and planned to offer Javari as a gift to one of his associates, so he didn’t kill Javari but only imprisoned him.
After the insider learned this, he was upset but powerless, so he had to send people to identify where Javari was being held, trying to silence him.
Meanwhile, the insider fabricated another set of mission documents, placed in a basement room to check if anyone was planning to rescue Javari. The insider intended to lure the rescuer into a trap, allowing the “Desert Lion Mercenary Group” and others to kill the rescuer without anyone realizing.
This insider, likely not affiliated with CIA member Perena from the card game. Mona had checked and found that they were not on the same team. Perena’s actual goal was simply to capture Brenekoff and ascertain Javari’s location; most likely, she belongs to an internal CIA faction that opted to rescue Javari.
A CIA insider with malintent towards Javari, a CIA faction led by Perena aiming for a rescue, an MI6 wanting to capture Brenekoff and find out where the traitor agent is, a Mrs. Hanover wanting a rescue, along with the trio including Luo An, all wanting to save people…
Realizing the motives and thoughts of the various parties, Luo An’s lips curled into a smile. Rescuing Javari Evans proved to be the most forceful event he’d encountered in this world.
Moreover, none of the individuals involved in these forces were simple. If it weren’t for Luo An’s swift and direct action, this matter could have developed into a mess.
Boom!
A sudden grenade explosion drew Luo An’s attention back.
The opposing mercenary group, losing patience, began throwing grenades crazily to the lower floor, clearly aiming to collapse the staircase and completely bury Luo An and Voycek.
Unable to contact Mona or Caroline, Luo An’s expression turned stern. Talking about the insiders could wait; right now, the most critical task was to fight their way out and find Mona and Caroline!
