Chapter 25: Cut Ties

Qu Xinru was a little flustered by Qu Ling’er’s cold-eyed glare. However, she continued to persuade her, “I just think that there’s no need to reduce things to such a state. I’m going to study in Beijing soon. We won’t see each other much in the future. By the way, you probably don’t know yet—I have been accepted into Beijing Music Academy—Opera Department. Dad and Mom are very happy.”

Qu Ling’er did not want to waste her breath. Qu Xinru’s words were filled with a sense of superiority—she probably felt that it was very impressive to be accepted to Beijing Music Academy.

“Qu Ling’er, family will always be family. If you go against Dad, you will be on the losing end!” Qu Xinru continued to persuade her, framing it as if she had Qu Ling’er’s interests at heart.

Qu Ling’er looked at her and asked point-blank, “Why did you lie to me?”

Qu Xinru suddenly paused, her eyes avoiding Qu Ling’er’s. She knew what Qu Ling’er was talking about. She did not dare to look directly into Qu Ling’er’s eyes as she tilted her head and explained, “Dad asked me to call you to come to the hospital. He said it was urgent. I can’t disobey Dad. Ling’er, don’t blame me…”

Qu Ling’er already knew the answer in her heart. She said coldly, “Give me the household register!”

Qu Xinru said, “Qu Ling’er!”

“I don’t want to listen to your nonsense!” Qu Ling’er interrupted Qu Xinru. “Half an hour is almost up—give me the household register!”

Qu Xinru stopped pretending too and said impatiently, “You’re just going to a local school. Why are you transferring your household register?”

Qu Ling’er said, “You’re not going to hand it over? Very well.” She then whipped out her cell phone and called the police.

When Qu Xinru saw that she had really dialed the number, she quickly flew over to stop her. “Why did you call the police? Hurry up and hang up. The household register is here—I’ll give it to you!”

Qu Ling’er hung up the phone and looked at her coldly.

Qu Xinru frowned—reluctantly opened her handbag and took out the household register—and handed it to Qu Ling’er. “If you want to transfer the household register now, I’ll go with you. After you transfer it, you’d have to return the household register to us.”

.Qu Ling’er took the household register and said, “After I’m done, I’ll go back to the Qu family to pack my things. You don’t have to follow me.”

Qu Xinru’s face froze. She did not think that Qu Ling’er really intended to cut ties with the Qu family. But how could it be so easy? As long as she was still here, she would still be under the control of the Qu family.

Qu Ling’er kept the household register in her bag and bid Zhang Ran goodbye.

Zhang Ran knew that she had to settle this matter immediately before she could put her mind at rest. She smiled and sent her off.

When she reached the door, Qu Ling’er turned around and said to Qu Xinru, “By the way, Qu Xinru, there’s something I should tell you—I have been accepted to Beijing University. If we meet in Beijing in the future, we’ll pretend not to know each other.”

Qu Xinru’s eyes widened in surprise. Qu Ling’er’s words filled her mind as she left the doctor’s office—she was accepted to Beijing University—how was that possible?

Beijing University was one of the top universities in the country. It was the dream university of every student! How could it be so easy to be accepted there?

Qu Ling’er came to the Qu family from the countryside during the summer vacation of junior high school graduation. She only went to an ordinary high school and her grades were average. In her three years of high school, Qu Zhisheng did not care much about her grades. Qu Xinru deliberately asked around—found that Qu Ling’er kept a low profile in school and her grades were ordinary—so she did not pay attention to her anymore. Who knew that she would actually get accepted to Beijing University now!

“Xinru?” Qu Zhisheng called out to his daughter, who was in a daze.

“Dad.” Qu Xinru snapped back from her thoughts and called out in a daze.

Qu Zhisheng looked at his precious daughter and asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Why do you look so distracted? Have you given the household register to that wretch?”

Qu Xinru’s face was contorted. She hugged Qu Zhisheng’s arm and said, “Dad, I really tried my best, but this time she is determined to cut ties with us!”

“Hmph!” Qu Zhisheng snorted coldly. “It’s not that easy. I raised her for three years—how can it be for nothing? So what if she transferred her household register? As long as she’s in Shen City, she’s still under my control!”

Qu Xinru said awkwardly, “But the university she was accepted to is not in Shen City…”

“What?” Qu Zhisheng looked at his daughter in confusion.

Qu Xinru said with a contorted face, “She told me that she was accepted to Beijing University…”

“Beijing University?” Qu Zhisheng raised his voice. “How is that possible? She can’t possibly get accepted to Beijing University with her results…”

Qu Xinru asked carefully, “Dad, do you have the phone number of Qu Ling’er’s form teacher? Shall we ask?”

Qu Zhisheng: “…” He didn’t!
