Chapter 990: Chapter 990: He Went in Alone
Just as they were about to walk inside, the man leading the way suddenly stopped.
Li Beijue released her hand, turned his head slightly, and lightly brushed his thin lips against hers. “Chi Enen, wait for me here.”
“I want to…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Li Beijue’s falcon-like eyes turned stern. “Listen to me. Wait here first!”
Chi Enen frowned slightly. Although she didn’t understand why he insisted on her waiting outside, she still agreed. “Alright, I’ll wait for you.”
Li Beijue was worried she’d stubbornly insist on going in with him, but seeing her comply relaxed his tense jaw slightly. He gave her a deep look with his falcon-like eyes and suddenly leaned down, kissing her on the lips.
It was like a dragonfly skimming water–swift yet assertive. He lifted his head almost immediately, his gaze returning to its usual arrogant coldness.
“Remember, don’t wander off. I’ll be out soon.”
Despite so many eyes watching, he had the audacity to act so boldly. Chi Enen was overwhelmed but nodded without hesitation. “Don’t worry, I’ll wait here for you.”
Only then did Li Beijue seem reassured. He lifted his head, glanced at the people nearby, and coldly commanded, “Take good care of Miss Chi. If I find out you neglect her–the consequences… you’ll bear them!”
The icy tone and bone-chilling warning sent a wave of fear through the gathered servants, who quickly bowed in submission. “Rest assured, Master Jue.”
Li Beijue withdrew his gaze, tightened his thin lips into a line, and looked toward the hall.
Without sparing Chi Enen another glance, he strode forward on his long legs into the room.
The 400-square-meter hall was entirely designed in a Medieval style, with beige leather sofas and a crystal chandelier exuding an indescribable air of luxury.
The walls were adorned with Medieval paintings–all legendary artworks capable of stirring the whole world. Yet here, they were nothing more than decorations.
A hale and hearty old man sat on the sofa, both hands resting on a dragon-headed walking stick. His meticulously combed silver hair gleamed under the light, and a pair of falcon-like eyes–strikingly similar to Li Beijue’s–oozed sharp authority, as if capable of piercing through souls. Who else could he be but the Old Master Li, whom Chi Enen had met once at the T country hotel?
Behind him stood an old butler like a shadow, his presence as unnoticeable as air. His worried gaze lingered on Li Beijue as he entered.
“You’re back?” The Old Master Li spoke indifferently. Just three simple words carried an overwhelming sense of pressure.
Li Beijue’s expression didn’t even shift, not a single flicker in his brows. “Yes.”
The Old Master Li looked at his cold, unyielding demeanor, and his suppressed anger surged. From the moment Li Beijue had stepped off the airplane, reports had been stating that he had brought that Chi Enen woman back.
It seemed his audacity was growing unchecked–acting without regard for the consequences!
Fully aware of his disapproval of Chi Enen, Li Beijue still had the nerve to bring her here!
But the Old Master Li, being who he was, maintained a facade of composure even as fury flashed in his eyes. Not a trace of emotion leaked into his tone. “Do you know why I called you back?”
“I know.”
The Old Master Li fixed his gaze on him, his expression remaining stoic, though pain flickered behind his eyes. He spoke slowly and forcefully, “Beijue, you’ve truly disappointed me! You’ve never committed such mistakes before. Not even at 18 years old, yet here you are at 28, making such an outrageous error! I’ve spent my life meticulously grooming you, only to witness such regression!”
It wasn’t merely regression–it was stubbornly dragging back the very ’cause’ of that regression. That, above all, was what disappointed him most!
