Chapter 998: Chapter 998: The Old Drunkard’s Interest Is Not in the Tea

She trotted back into the room, found a blank piece of paper, and scribbled something down on it. Then, she pressed the completed note under Li Beijue’s hand before calmly walking to the doorway, composed and unhurried, “Alright, let’s go.”

Chi Enen didn’t know why Old Master Li wanted to see her, nor how long it would take for her to return. If Li Beijue woke up and couldn’t find her, he would definitely search high and low for her.

His wounds had just been bandaged and couldn’t take any reckless movements, so she wrote a note and left it under his hand. The note clearly explained where she went and, to prevent him from worrying, she added that if she hadn’t returned by then, he should call her; the moment she got the call, she would come back…

The doctor was curious about what she wrote, but even if he were given ten times the courage, he wouldn’t dare to snatch anything from Master Jue’s hands–whether the man was awake or asleep, the thought alone was unthinkable to him. So, despite his curiosity, he tucked it away and walked ahead.

Chi Enen followed behind him, passing through the corridor, descending the stairs, and returning to the living room from earlier. Later, as they ascended another staircase, the sight of two rows of straight-backed bodyguards along the corridor stunned her.

Even though she hadn’t seen Old Master Li yet, she already sensed a stifling pressure looming over her.

Chi Enen followed the doctor’s pace and walked to the end of the corridor, stopping in front of the doorway to the innermost room.

The doctor came to a halt and respectfully knocked twice on the door, “Master Jue, Miss Chi has arrived.”

“Come in.” A commanding voice echoed from inside the room–it could only be Old Master Li.

The doctor pushed open the grand, luxurious mahogany door and gestured for Chi Enen to enter.

“Sorry for the intrusion.” Without hesitation, Chi Enen stepped inside.

As soon as she entered, the decor inside revealed itself in all its grandeur.

Old Master Li’s bedroom bore a resemblance to Li Beijue’s–it too was a suite-style, super large bedroom, though its design leaned more toward the severe and opulent aesthetic preferred by the elderly. Intricately carved sandalwood shelves were filled with all kinds of rare jade artifacts.

He was seated on a dark brown leather sofa, sipping tea.

Standing behind him was the old butler.

Even though he hadn’t lifted his head, it was as though he had already seen Chi Enen enter. He spoke in a steady tone, “Sit.”

Chi Enen walked over to the sofa opposite him and sat down with ease.

In the blink of an eye, a cup of tea was placed in front of her. Old Master Li raised his head, his hale and hearty eyes fathomless, sharp with the wisdom accumulated over time, seemingly able to pierce through everything, “Try it.”

Chi Enen picked up the teacup and took a sip. She had to admit, the tea brewed by Old Master Li truly tasted exquisite. After drinking it, there was a lingering fragrance that stayed on her lips and teeth, leaving an unforgettable aftertaste, “Good tea.”

“Of course. I used spring water to brew top-grade Great Red Robe tea; the taste naturally wouldn’t fall short.” Old Master Li poured himself another cup, then looked at her and continued, “Brewing tea is often like life itself. Tea leaves rise and fall in the teacup, just as life ebbs and flows. To brew a good cup of tea, not only do the leaves matter, but the cup and water are equally important. For instance, with Great Red Robe tea, it must be brewed with spring water. Bamboo Leaf Green tea, however, is best suited for underground water. Both spring water and underground water are exceptional, but when paired with the wrong tea leaves, they become unsuitable.”

Chi Enen understood immediately–Old Master Li wasn’t inviting her to drink tea; he was using tea as a metaphor for her and Li Beijue.
