Chapter 370: Chapter 313 Let’s Reconcile and Repeat the Same Mistakes, Torturing Each Other
“I don’t know either?”
Ash scratched his head and asked, “If I choose ‘I don’t know,’ can that be considered a correct answer?”
“Of course,” the Observer said with a smile. “Who said ‘I don’t know’ can’t be an answer?”
Before you appeared, ‘I don’t know’ really wasn’t considered an answer.
But after your arrival, even if a ‘remove one wrong answer’ benefit function appeared in the cabin, I wouldn’t be surprised.
The Empress grumbled internally, thinking how could she possibly do well in this amnesiac Q&A surrounded by these mysterious inside men?
After hearing that ‘I don’t know’ could be officially acknowledged as an answer, Ash let out a sigh of relief, thinking if there were no other clues, he might as well choose ‘I don’t know.’
It was quite a justified stance, after all, he really didn’t know.
However, compared to the mundane ‘I don’t know,’ the other two unconventional options were like a cow flying to the sky. Ash felt like his former self could have obliterated the great path.
The first option, become a pawn, sacrifice the world!
The second option, collect Heart’s Desires, invert the world!
The former was a chaotic evil path, the latter a lawful good path, but either way, both options implied that Ash had meddled with the weak and helpless world, making one lament how troubled the world is.
Even Denzel stopped paying attention to Diya, she was shocked by the information revealed in Ash’s question, “Knight… have you… been resurrected?”
“Asking me is pointless, I’ve lost my memory.” Ash spread his hands: “If amnesia counts as a rebirth, then am I on my third life now?”
Sonia sneaked up quietly beside Ash, tightly grasping his arm and said in a coquettishly sweet tone, “My dear Knight–”
Ash got goosebumps all over, “Get lost, get lost, what are you doing?!”
“Aren’t we lovers~” Sonia tilted her head with a playful pout. “We’ve lost our memories. We should work hard to rekindle our relationship~”
“Didn’t you just say we broke up?”
“That’s just a little fun between couples. How could life be lively without some arguments and tumult?”
“Didn’t you say I cheated?”
“The truth has come to light, lover. The lover is the sister’s lover, not yours, so you’re still my faithful lover.”
“Didn’t you say I was likely not a good person and you were ready to turn from darkness to light?”
“Lucky me, I just love bad boys!”
Ash saw through her: “You clearly came closer because you think I might be someone important!”
Sonia raised an eyebrow, “So, you’re saying you don’t want to get back together with me?”
“Hmph!” Ash*Stubborn*Ash.
“Speaking of which, we have the ‘Shared Life’ blessing between us. Since we’re not in love anymore, I’ll trigger it later on, and we’ll cut ties completely without any worries…”
“Speaking of which,” Ash suddenly said, “why do you think we fell in love?”
“Hmm?” Sonia blinked her eyes. Although she didn’t know what Ash was plotting, she could vaguely smell a scent of a scoundrel.
“I think it must have been love at first sight, blinded by your beauty.” Ash sincerely took Sonia’s hand. “Thank you for this fortunate amnesia. Miss, it’s nice to meet you for the first time. Can we start over?”
“You’re clearly just afraid of being dragged down by me.” Sonia snorted but couldn’t help but chuckle: “Weren’t you guessing that we were a long-time couple entering a period of complacency, and you even thought that you could cheat and find a lover? Now that we’ve lost our memories, why not just take this chance to end this entanglement–”
“Why must it end? Let’s go, we’ll get back together and torture each other all over again.”
Ash spoke with deep emotion, as if they really were lovers who had been in a long-running relationship, separating and reconciling countless times, perfectly fitting the role of a couple in a romantic drama series.
Just as Ash and Sonia were locked in their expert exchange, a sudden cough came from the side.
“I see you two could go on chatting for a very long time,” the Observer said. “How about we start with the questions first?”
“Hey!” The Witch complained in a private message. “Why interrupt them? I so enjoy watching them exchange barbs. I’m really curious what expressions they’ll have after regaining their memories… Surely you, as the Observer, aren’t embarrassed by such scenes?”
“How could I be? Even if they rolled around entwined right here, I would only complain about the lack of snacks and drinks to enhance the mood; how could I possibly feel embarrassed?” the Observer said. “However, although I’m not embarrassed, that person next to you is holding the hilt of her sword in her embarrassment.”
The Witch glanced at the Sword Maiden. At that moment, the Sword Maiden’s head was bowed, her expression hidden from view. All that could be seen was her right hand caressing the ruby sword hilt, as though she was petting the head of a dog awaiting decapitation.
Ash turned his gaze to the two choices that declared their own invincibility.
“The world-sacrificing Destructor, the cause-reversing Savior…” Ash mused. “Two important prerequisites have appeared here: The Gods of Four Pillars and the Mage’s Handbook. But neither has been mentioned in previous questions.”
“That means these two options can’t be judged based on the existing information and I can only speculate based on my own personality.”
“Isn’t that easy?” asked Sonia. “Do you see yourself as more aligned with the Destructor or the Savior?”
As soon as the question was asked, not only Denzel, but also the Sword Maiden and the Witch looked over. In that instant, Ash became the center of the cabin, as though his answer would sway the balance in everyone’s minds.
Unperturbed, Ash bowed his head in thought and then clapped his hands firmly.
With the clap, the dust also settled.
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t know?” Sonia was taken aback. “But isn’t that easy to guess? You can conclude based on whether you see yourself wanting to save people or kill them.”
“What about you?” Ash countered. “If it were you, do you see yourself as a Savior who would spend a thousand years for a single hope or a Destructor daring to sacrifice billions of lives?”
“The question wasn’t asked of me–”
“Following your logic, if you lean toward goodness, then you’re a Savior; if you lean toward evil, then you’re a Destructor. Isn’t that easy to guess?”
You’re actually using my words against me… Sonia wanted to retort defiantly, but the words choked up in her throat, as if what she was about to say would become a time bomb that constrained her.
Spend a thousand years… Although I don’t know how long I’ve lived, a thousand years is definitely a long unit of time, right?
Billions of lives… Although I don’t know if I’ve ever killed anyone, but the number ‘billion’ is horrifying, isn’t it?
Seeing Sonia’s hesitation, Ash turned to ask Denzel, “What about you?”
“Destructor,” Denzel said without hesitation. “I don’t like wasting time.”
“You see, it’s like that,” Ash spread his hands. “Personality determines memory, memory influences personality. If I indeed had done either of these things, then I must have a character capable of making the corresponding choice. Whether it be a thousand years of time or carrying the sins of billions of lives, it would undoubtedly be deeply engraved in my soul, warping my perception, shaping my thoughts.”
“More importantly,” Ash looked at the Observer, “I am very clear that even with the recalled memory, I would not have the enlightenment to make such a decision.”
“I don’t smell the stench of mountains of corpses and seas of blood on me, nor do I detect the refined fragrance born from tremendous suffering.”
Witch: “Sword Maiden, can you smell it? We can’t smell anything–”
Sword Maiden: “I can.”
She gave the Witch a cold glance, then glanced over at the Observer’s back. “But I can’t tell whose scent it is.”
