Chapter 371: Chapter 314 The Woman Ash Values Most at the Moment
“It seems you have already reached an answer,” the Observer stated, “By the way, the artifact bound to this question is this.”
An Artifact Spirit appeared in the Observer’s hand, “This is your most cherished Artifact Spirit–Substitute Technique Spirit.”
Ash looked at the Substitute Technique Spirit as if he were looking at his own lover, his expression becoming intensely solemn, “I can feel it; it is indeed very important to me!”
“So you must make your choice carefully,” the Observer intoned, “State your answer.”
“Although I’d like to choose an identity that would allow me to overpower and reverse causality through the ages, after all, who wouldn’t want to have been a transcendent figure who braves the wind and fire?” Ash shrugged, “Unfortunately, I am someone favored by a lover (Denzel), and my wisdom does not allow me to deceive myself.”
“Option three, I am just an ordinary person who knows nothing.”
The Observer glanced at him, holding the Substitute Technique Spirit in his hand, which seemed unable to breathe.
Then he squeezed it sharply–
“Congratulations on the correct answer.”
The Observer opened his right hand, which was empty. He released his left hand and two streams of light entered Ash’s body, “The reward you have received is the ‘Command’ Technique Spirit.”
Ash breathed a sigh of relief, “Don’t scare me like that.”
“There’s nothing better, if it could have scared you,” the Observer closed his eyes slightly, “It will help you prepare mentally for when you need to give up something cherished in the future.”
Ash blinked; he felt that the Phantom seemed to imply something more, but the Observer obviously continued playing the role of a sphinx–he understood that since he liked being a sphinx himself–he skipped the topic and moved to the final part in the wooden hut.
“Now, the last question for you. I can guarantee, it is indeed very, very, very simple,” the Observer said in a light tone, “Please relax and greet this memory test’s end with a joyful heart.”
Ash moved his chair back as if he felt the Observer was about to pull out a time bomb for him to defuse.
The Observer flipped open a portfolio on the table, “Your last question here is exactly the same as your first one here–choose from the following women, the one who holds the highest place in your heart.”
Ash breathed a sigh of relief–this was indeed simple; he knew he was a sucker for looks, just choosing the prettiest one would suffice.
“First is the initial candidate.”
The Observer turned the first page, and there she was, a familiar face: wine-red hair, ruby eyes, a black dress, and a long sword in hand, brimming with youthful vigor–it was Sonia.
Sonia’s face turned slightly red, she couldn’t help but gently punch Ash’s shoulder.
“However, the second candidate.”
Turning the second page, also a familiar person: dressed in black-and-white checkerboard-patterned skirt, one leg in white stockings and the other in black, half-white, half-black hair–it was Diya.
“Then the third candidate.”
Turning the third page, this woman was unknown to them: wearing amethyst earrings, holding an opulent orange velvet folding fan, dressed in a violet trench coat, even the gloves were light violet, resembling the beautiful blooming of violets. If anything, this woman seemed a bit like Denzel, but just a bit.
“Then the fourth candidate.”
Turning the fourth page, also an unfamiliar person: the woman in the painting wore a loose black robe, holding a crow mask, seemingly revealing half of her face, her supple black hair reflecting the sheen of raven feathers, rose-red lips looking luscious, and blood-red eyes that could capture a soul.
By then, Sonia’s expression had subtly changed.
“And now, the fifth candidate…”
“Stop!”
Ash pressed down on the Observer’s hand, which was about to turn the page, the Observer blinked, “What, you don’t want to see the next option?”
“No need to see it,” Ash declared, “I choose the first one.”
“So decisive?” the Observer smiled faintly, “What if the next one is a woman you’d fall in love with at first sight?”
“Firstly, no matter what, I can only choose from the three people that appeared with me in the wooden hut. Now I know the lover is not my lover, the sister probably isn’t my sister, but the lover could potentially be my lover.”
“And,” Ash shrugged, “Calling her ‘lover’ here but then choosing someone else as the most loved… even I couldn’t do such a thing.”
“You don’t have to consider me,” Sonia calmly stated, “After all, it’s all just your speculation, maybe I’m not your lover at all?”
Ash tilted his head, looking at her, then suddenly said, “Personality determines memory.”
“Hmm?”
“If you weren’t my lover, indeed I wouldn’t need to consider you,” Ash smiled, “But I clearly realize that I would consider you, what do you think that represents?”
Sonia snorted, “It means you’re the type who has it in the mouth, holds it in the bowl, yet eyes the pot.”
“The artifact bound to this question is… your second most cherished ‘Sun Reversal’ Technique Spirit.”
Noticing the Sword Maiden began to fiddle with her sword handle again, the Observer forcefully interrupted their emotional exchange, “Please state your answer.”
“Option one.”
“Unchanged?”
“Unchanged.”
“Very well.” The Observer leaned back in his chair, stretched lazily, and looked toward Ash, Sonia, and Denzel, spreading his hands. “You answered incorrectly, snap, your Sun Reversal Technique Spirit is gone.”
After a brief silence, Sonia’s voice filled the cabin.
“Could I see what the fifth candidate looks like?”
The Observer was taken aback. “Why?”
Sonia simply said, “I’m just a bit curious… Also, is there a sixth candidate, a seventh candidate?”
“You clearly want to remember everyone’s face so you can settle scores with me once you regain your memories!” Ash saw through Sonia’s malicious intentions. “You’re such a sneaky, cunning, petty woman holding grudges; please be generous enough to act as if this never happened!”
“Sorry.” The Observer spoke, “The quiz game is over; there’s no way to check the questions. Participants, please exit in an orderly fashion.”
Witch: “I’m really looking forward to their reactions after they leave the cabin…”
Sword Maiden: “Isn’t it?”
Witch: “Hmm?”
Sword Maiden: “I thought the person he values most right now should be… Observer, what’s the answer?”
Observer: “The cabin didn’t tell me, it only assesses if answers are right or wrong. But, I think I can guess. The woman Ash values the most at the moment is still her.”
…
Meanwhile,
Beneath the Time Continent in the Void Realm, the Sea of Knowledge.
A small boat docked beside a tiny island, Freyja sat in a chair with a pen and paper, engaging in the Fate Q&A.
She had not expected that just days after becoming a Mage, she would encounter such a rare adventure that ordinary Mages could only dream of.
What excited her even more was that she had just answered a question correctly, and the question was related to Ash!
“Question*Multiple Choice: What plan will ‘Freyja Hoyel’ undertake with ‘Ash Heath’ in the future?”
“1 A plan to rewrite fate.”
“2 A plan to reverse time.”
“3 A plan to invert the world.”
“4 All of the above.”
Apart from being thrilled that she would meet Ash again in the future, Freyja had no clue about the question and could only randomly pick an answer; unexpectedly, she guessed right!
Thinking about how she and Ash would both become influential figures driving grand plans in the future, Meiwa felt an overwhelming tide of emotion and even considered leaving the Void Realm immediately to satisfy her desires.
Still, she needed to continue the Fate Q&A; learning even a little about the future was a gain. Freyja took a deep breath to calm her nerves and focused on the paper, where several lines emerged:
“Question*Multiple Choice: Who is currently the most important woman in ‘Ash Heath’s mind?”
“1 Death Mad Sword Maiden”
“2 Black and White Witch”
“3 Crow Doctor”
“4 Meiwa Freyja Hoyel”
“5 Purple Moth Hanna Doran”
“6 Crying Red Hat Cleos Beimu”
“7 His mother”
Freyja looked at the seventh option and fell into thought.
“…What does ‘mother’ mean?”
