Chapter 378: Chapter 320 The Girl’s Embarrassment Part 2
However, while others had to rely on makeup and quality sleep to keep up with the crowd, Adelle’s squandering of her natural gifts was in a league of its own. If she took her grooming seriously, even if she couldn’t catch up with giants in the arms race like Sonia and Lois, she could at least make it to the fifth spot in rankings such as “Sword Flower’s Top Four Beauties.”
“Is today the public history class?”
“Yes, today they should cover the last unit of the semester, the Star Cluster nobility system and the birth of the ‘Noble Act.'”
“Ugh, I hate history classes the most. A toilet just needs to work; why do we have to learn about the history of its creation?”
“…Your comment is surprisingly politically astute.”
By the time Adelle was ready for class, she noticed that Sonia was still foolishly sitting still in her chair and gave the Village Girl a nudge: “Class is starting! Or are you going to exercise the privilege of being top of the class and skip with a clear conscience today?”
“Skipping class for the valedictorian isn’t called skipping class,” Lois said calmly, “How could the valedictorian make a mistake? Obviously, the valedictorian must have written a leave request for the professor, who then accidentally lost it. When the professor notices the valedictorian’s absence, it’s only right that he should conscientiously issue a replacement leave request for her.”
“Damn it, is this the kind of power that comes with being at the pinnacle of the academy?” Gritting her teeth, Adelle said, “What do I have to do to let the professor know I’m Sonia’s lackey, and that offending me is offending the top student Sonia?”
“Ah, is it time for class?” Sonia, awakening as if from a dream, casually picked up her bag intending to go to class with them.
However, neither moved, and Sonia looked at them in puzzlement: “Why aren’t we going?”
Adelle pointed to Sonia’s sword bag: “Are you planning to burst the history professor’s head to prevent him from checking homework? Sonia, my Savior!”
Only then did Sonia notice she had taken the sword bag by mistake and quickly switched it for her backpack.
As they left the dorm, Lois couldn’t stop sneaking glances at Sonia, and soon Adelle also noticed something off about Sonia: “Miss Red-haired Sword Maiden, your no-makeup makeup look today… seems to have gone too far, hasn’t it?”
Adelle pushed Lois next to Sonia, then took out a hand mirror to compare the two.
At first glance, there seemed to be no difference between Sonia and Lois; both were bare-faced beauties. But upon closer inspection, there were many disparities: Lois, with her lip base, had luscious lip color, while Sonia only had her natural lip tint; Lois’ eyes, with curled and based eyelashes, had an inwards-folding, three-dimensional depth that Sonia’s loose lashes lacked; Lois, with her no-makeup cream applied, truly had skin that was white and luminous, while Sonia had none of that ‘bling-bling’ glow; Lois’ tea-inspired delightful demeanor was accentuated by a charming mole she dotted by her eye, a pure desire no-makeup look, whereas Sonia clearly had nothing on at all.
And this was just at a glance. Details like the treatment of pores didn’t even need mentioning; everything pointed to one conclusion — Sonia had actually left home without makeup.
For Sonia, this was an inconceivable event. Both she and Lois were looksists who believed that “no makeup equals streaking” and would rather skip class than compromise their best appearance. Sometimes Sonia would even deliberately present herself as hurriedly rushing to class to seem naturally beautiful when she just woke up, not letting on that this hastily conjured beauty was the product of a thirty-minute meticulous scheme.
Speedy makeup like Adelle’s, doable in five minutes by hand, would instead reveal its traces.
“There’s no one left in the academy you care about?” Adelle speculated.
“Did something happen in the Void Realm?” Lois was more on point and realized that Sonia had been acting strange since returning from the Void Realm, “If you’re feeling down, skip class.”
Sonia shook her head, said nothing, and had no intention of going back to her room, heading straight for the classroom. The two roommates exchanged glances and protected Sonia, one on each side.
The public history class was a large one and naturally took place in a tiered classroom that could accommodate the most people. When Sonia and her two companions reached the rear corner, a mocking voice suddenly sounded from nearby: “Hey, why is there a mudfish smell here? Let’s find a new spot.”
They looked over to see several nobles in flashy clothing picking up their books, preparing to leave.
They looked as if they weren’t speaking directly to Sonia, but their contempt was evident in their eyes.
Sword Flower University took a firm stance against real-life bullying and insults, yet such snide remarks weren’t within their jurisdiction. Sonia’s background was no longer a secret, and those who despised her couldn’t criticize her academic performance, so naturally, they attacked her immutable flaws.
Alas, alas, alas…
Adelle could almost predict how Sonia would retort, “Ew, who’s spewing shit so early in the morning,” “True to Sword Flower University, even the asses here can talk,” “Your nose is so good, ever thought about becoming a police dog?”…On the forums, Sonia was truly dominating; anyone who dared to mock her was bound to end up swearing in anger and getting their account banned.
However, Sonia remained silent.
She didn’t even argue back but simply took the seat left by those noble students. After a moment, when she noticed the noble students were still standing nearby, she slightly nodded her head and said a word of thanks.
As if they had voluntarily given up their seats.
Yet it was this indifferent attitude that infuriated the noble students, making them flush with anger, turning red and then pale. Unable to utter a word as Sonia pointed at them, they could do nothing but flee like dogs under the mocking gaze of onlookers.
No doubt, rumors like “Noble students voluntarily gave up their seats to the red-haired Sword Maiden” would soon emerge on the school forum. Everyone would believe that Sonia had reached a Realm where she disdained arguing with trashy people, yet could still make trashy people bow their heads in a victory without fighting.
But Lois and Adelle knew that wasn’t the case.
Sonia hadn’t heard their provocations at all, still engrossed in her own realm of thought.
This piqued the curiosity of the two girls. What could possibly be so engaging that Sonia was preoccupied with it to the exclusion of all else in reality?
…
“Am I still your lover right now?”
“Let’s break up.”
“We have amnesia; we need to properly rekindle our feelings~”
“Convenient, I just like bad boys!”
“So you don’t want to get back together with me, is that it?”
It was as if a storm was raging in Sonia’s mind, countless memories raining down like gun bullets, creating rhythmically rippling patterns in her sea of hearts. Each wave reflected the charming demeanor of her coy behavior the previous night; each splash revealed the affectionately angry or affectionately happy emotions in her eyes.
“Why did I say that to Observer after my amnesia, aaaaah! Wah, I want to die, I wish to drown in Gold Coins, I wish Observer would fall and crack his skull right now…”
The girl was in the midst of her embarrassment.
