Chapter 385: Chapter 324: At Least You Can Act Coquettishly to the Substitute_2
Liss was startled, “Are we going to be eaten?”
“If you prefer salty egg yolk or salt-baked,” Ash wiped off the blob of happy whipped cream from Liss’s mouth with a napkin, “if you’re scared, don’t eat so much; being too fat will get you killed, you know!”
“Then I’m not scared,” Liss retorted, “Dad is fatter than me, and even fatter than Aunt Bokin.”
“What I have is called a sturdy build, sunny disposition. How could your Aunt Bokin’s pale face ever compare?”
Igula couldn’t be bothered with this father and daughter, “A spooky city, xenophobic locals, secretive employers, and malicious local security forces… Even in the Kingdom of Blood Moon, the only place that combines these four suspicious elements is my hometown, Feimeng City.”
“What kind of hellish earth did you crawl out of, you demon…”
“All in all, we should start the investigation first,” Igula said, standing up to pick up the dinner plate. “I don’t expect you to be able to find out anything, but at least don’t draw too much attention, especially the three of you – suspicious males wearing black robes in broad daylight, taste in clothes chasing after Abyss trends, an imbecilic toddler who can only act cute and play dumb, and that includes Harvey and little Liss.”
“If we were in the Kingdom of Blood Moon, I’d sue you for personal attack,” said Ash.
Harvey also got up to leave, “I’m going back to cultivate. Who wants to become my research subject?”
Although the necromancer repeatedly assured that he wouldn’t lay a hand on anyone, clearly no one wanted to sleep in a coffin. After Harvey left as well, Ash turned to Liss who shook her head, “I’m busy today too; Daddy, be good and go play with the other kids.”
“No, no, I want to be with Liss… Forget it.”
Childlike Ash couldn’t overcome his sense of shame. He half-playfully pleaded with Liss and then gave up, changing the subject, “What could a kid like you be so busy with? Leave the front-line stuff to your Aunt Bokin; just remember to wipe your mouth after eating, that’s enough.”
Liss gave Ash a serious look, then lowered her head, “I’m not a kid, Daddy, have you forgotten? I’m here to seize the Divine Lord’s wish.”
“So you’re just a greedy little girl who can’t wipe her own mouth,” Ash pulled her closer and roughly wiped her oily mouth with a tissue. “This place is even considered dangerous by your Aunt Bokin, so it’s best you stay in your room and don’t wander off.”
Liss didn’t speak, but her small face spelled out “paying lip service,” and Ash let out a sigh, “I can’t be bothered to look after you, but unfortunately, I have a Contract to protect you–do you want me to accompany you?”
Liss crisply said, “No need!”
However, Ash shook his head, “I can’t possibly let you run around here alone. Even if I was willing, the Contract wouldn’t be… Don’t be hasty.” He noticed Liss pouting, “Dealing with a rebellious daughter can really be tough… Wait, I’ve got an idea.”
Ash snapped his fingers and a suspicious fugitive in a black robe appeared next to him. Liss naturally knew this was Ash’s Substitute Technique Spirit and asked doubtfully, “Dad, do you want the Substitute to follow me? But it only obeys your commands; it wouldn’t even kneel if I asked.”
Why would you ask it to kneel… Ash wanted to comment but decided to ignore this odd request, “This is not just a Substitute Technique Spirit; it’s a combination of Substitute plus a command – an advanced Substitute!”
“What’s so special about it?”
“The special thing is that I can transfer command authority to you so you can direct the Substitute,” Ash patted the Substitute. “With it following you, I won’t have to worry. Plus, the Substitute doesn’t share my vision or memory, so you don’t have to fear your adolescent secrets being discovered.”
The “Command” Technique Spirit was a reward given to Ash by the amnesic cabin. In the cabin, Ash lost the Sun Reversal Technique Spirit but gained the Command Technique Spirit and Secret Avatar. The Command Technique Spirit and the Substitute Technique Spirit were a match made in heaven, not only greatly expanding the scope of the Substitute’s services but also allowing Ash to rent out the Substitute.
Eventually, once free from all conflicts, Ash could rely solely on the Substitute to support him, living a quiet life as a social recluse.
“Really?” Liss blinked, bent down to take off her shoes–
“Wait, what are you doing?” Ash panicked.
“I want it to carry me.”
“Then why are you taking off your shoes?”
Liss scratched her head, “Oh yeah! Although I’m not touched by Dad’s care at all, since Dad insists on bothering me, I’ll just take the Substitute for a walk!”
“At times like this, all you need to do is say ‘thank you’ sincerely,” Ash tousled Liss’s hair again. “Although I don’t know what you’re in such a hurry for, don’t push yourself too hard.”
Liss looked up at Ash and suddenly (^w^) smiled with narrowed eyes, “So, Dad is finally willing to join me in seizing the Divine Lord’s wish?”
“But don’t push me either,” Ash said, not pleased.
After leaving the dining room with the Substitute, Liss took out her beloved little mirror and gazed at her reflection for a long time.
Little Witch: “We might as well ask Dad for help! He’s an adult and more suited for finding the Gospel Avatar info, and I also want to act with Dad–”
Black Butler: “Our little sister’s arm is twisted outward, is that what they call a rebellious phase?”
White Queen: “Liss, we can’t expose our secrets. Human nature is not to be tested; we can only trust our sisters. As for closeness, the Witch is still our grandmother.”
Little Witch: “Dad is not Grandmother!”
