Chapter 374: Chapter 375: Xu Shengwu Injured
Zhao Jiazong’s words had barely left his lips when several men drew knives from their pockets, their eyes filled with venomous hatred as they stared at Xu Shengwu and Wu Qingsong.
Lu Daya and Gu Fuzhu’s hearts leapt to their throats at the sight of the blades in these men’s hands.
“Later, you and Lu Daya run at the first chance you get,” Xu Shengwu whispered, holding Gu Fuzhu.
Gu Fuzhu’s face showed worry. “And what about you?”
“I’ll be fine. Don’t you know my skills?” A roguish smile appeared on Xu Shengwu’s face.
“I don’t want to.”
“Your staying would only distract me,” Xu Shengwu said, seeing her reaction.
Gu Fuzhu hesitated for a moment but then nodded. “Then be careful. Lu Daya and I will go back and call for help.”
Xu Shengwu nodded and glanced at Wu Qingsong. The two men locked eyes and assumed their fighting stances.
Zhao Jiazong’s gang didn’t waste any time, charging at the two men with knives in hand.
During the chaos, Gu Fuzhu quickly grabbed Lu Daya and they both took off running.
When they reached the school entrance, they called urgently to the security guard, “There’s a fight over there. Go help!”
Not wanting to get involved, the guard glanced at them and said, “You’d better head back to school. Stay out of those matters.”
Lu Daya’s face darkened. She marched forward and immediately called the police.
By the time the police arrived, Gu Fuzhu and Lu Daya hurried over to Xu Shengwu. The thugs had been apprehended, but Xu Shengwu was slumped on the ground, pale and clutching his waist.
Gu Fuzhu ran to him and cried desperately, cradling him. “Shengwu, where’s the doctor? Call the doctor!”
“I’m okay, don’t cry,” Xu Shengwu reassured her, though pale, managing a weak smile.
Gu Fuzhu wiped her tears. “I won’t cry; just don’t die.”
Xu Ying received the call and rushed to the hospital with Huo Chen. Upon arrival, they were met with Gu Fuzhu’s heart-wrenching sobs.
“Shengwu, wake up. It’s all my fault that you’re like this. You can’t die.
You can’t leave me alone,” she wept.
Xu Ying’s heart skipped a beat, tears almost falling, but then she noticed Xu Shengwu’s fingers twitching.
Relieved, she walked over to Gu Fuzhu.
Seeing Xu Ying, Gu Fuzhu was filled with guilt. “It’s my fault Shengwu is hurt, I’m sorry.”
Xu Ying looked at Xu Shengwu on the bed, somewhat helplessly, but for the sake of her eldest brother’s future happiness, she held Gu Fuzhu’s hands tight. “It’s me who has brought trouble upon you and Lu Daya.
Thankfully, you two are unharmed. My brother’s injuries seem quite serious this time, not sure if he can make it through.
Fuzhu, the truth is my brother has always liked you. It’s a pity because now, I don’t know if you’ll ever have the chance.”
Wu Qingsong entered just in time to hear Xu Ying’s words. His lips twitched; his sister-in-law and Brother Chen were really a match made in heaven, each a master of drama and ever ready to use self-inflicted schemes.
Gu Fuzhu looked up in total confusion, disbelief written all over her face. Soon with a tearful voice, she asked, “How could that be? He likes me?”
Xu Ying sighed and nodded. “My brother likes you. Do you like my brother?”
Xu Ying figured she did, otherwise, she wouldn’t have cried so hard. Without feelings, seeing her brother in such a state might have only sparked fear or panic, not the overwhelming sorrow that poured out now.
Gu Fuzhu nodded. “I do.”
Seeing this, Xu Ying looked at Huo Chen and Wu Qingsong and suggested, “Let’s step outside. Let Fuzhu have some time alone with my brother. Maybe hearing Fuzhu’s voice will help wake him up.”
After saying this, she led the others out of the room.
Gu Fuzhu wiped and shed tears, looking at the bedridden Xu Shengwu with a heart full of sorrow, “Your sister said that you like me, is it true or false?
If you like me, you’re not allowed to die. Get up quickly and marry me.
If you don’t wake up, I won’t like you anymore, and by then I might just marry someone else.”
“How dare you!” Xu Shengwu exclaimed in a huff.
Gu Fuzhu lifted her head in surprise and saw Xu Shengwu awake. She was both embarrassed and annoyed, “Were you awake all along?”
Xu Shengwu smiled guiltily and denied, “No, I just woke up. Who did you say you were going to marry?
I almost lost my life for you, shouldn’t you at least pledge your love to me?” His bright eyes fixed on Gu Fuzhu.
Gu Fuzhu, feeling shy under his gaze, hung her head and muttered, “Why should I pledge my love?”
“Because I like you!” Xu Shengwu said, looking at her.
Gu Fuzhu blushed, her mouth curving into a pout, “Humph!”
“So, does that mean you agree to be with me?” Xu Shengwu asked tentatively.
Gu Fuzhu didn’t speak, her fingers incessantly twirling together drawing circles.
Xu Shengwu was a little perplexed and went direct, “If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as you agreeing to be my girlfriend.”
Gu Fuzhu nodded lightly, and Xu Shengwu immediately became so excited he almost jumped up.
Gu Fuzhu was startled, scolding, “What are you doing? Lie back down, your wound hasn’t healed yet. What if it opens up again with all this moving?”
Xu Shengwu chuckled and watched Gu Fuzhu’s concerned expression with joy. He lifted his head and stared straight at her, quickly planting a kiss on her lips.
Gu Fuzhu’s heart throbbed instantly, “Hooligan.”
“It’s not being a hooligan if I kiss my wife,” Xu Shengwu unabashedly claimed.
Gu Fuzhu grew even more bashful as her face bloomed with redness, coquettishly saying, “Who’s your wife? Don’t talk nonsense.”
Xu Shengwu felt sweetness in his heart, recalling the softness of Fuzhu’s lips that he had just kissed, and he was delighted.
“You are. In this lifetime, I’m only going to marry you. If it’s not you, who else could it be?”
Hearing this, Gu Fuzhu felt as sweet as honey in her heart and glanced at Xu Shengwu irritably, “Smooth talker. What if you never marry me?”
Xu Shengwu waved his hand, “Impossible. I’m dedicated to you in this life. If I don’t marry you, it can only mean that you are unwilling to marry me.”
Gu Fuzhu immediately denied, “That’s not true.”
Xu Shengwu, hearing this, felt extremely happy, for it seemed that Fuzhu was willing to marry him.
“Alright, that’s what you said!”
Gu Fuzhu’s cheeks were flushed as she nodded her head.
When Xu Ying and Huo Chen came back, they brought chicken soup in their hands.
“Third brother, are you hungry? We brought you chicken soup,” Xu Ying said, then turned towards Gu Fuzhu, “Are you going to school tonight? If so, Huo Chen and I can take you. You and Lu Daya should try to stay in these days.
Or go home early. Let’s wait until the issue with Zhao Jiazong has been handled,” Xu Ying reminded.
Zhao Jiazong was just too cruel, capable of rallying those thugs; who knows if he has more tricks up his sleeve.
Xu Shengwu was also vigilant, “You and Lu Daya should stay in for at least the next half-month.”
Gu Fuzhu nodded, suddenly feeling afraid of their zealous pursuit of the high school entrance exam impersonation fraud.
“Yingying, maybe we shouldn’t continue investigating the entrance exam issue. Just one report and we faced such vicious revenge; what if more people we report hold grudges and retaliate against us?”
