Chapter 380: Chapter 381: No Driving Allowed from Now On
She opened the car door and immediately got in, gripping the steering wheel as she reminisced about driving in the apocalypse.
Huo Chen looked at her bright eyes and thought she just wanted to sit in the car, hesitating for a moment before he said, “How about I take you for a drive?”
Xu Ying nodded eagerly like a pecking chicken and quickly shifted to the passenger seat.
Huo Chen sat in the driver’s seat, started the car, and took Xu Ying around the city center to the outskirts.
On the way back, Xu Ying gazed at Huo Chen, “Let me drive you back!”
“Do you know how to drive?” Huo Chen asked in surprise.
Xu Ying nodded, cheekily replying, “When I came to Shanghai for diplomacy before, I learned how to drive.”
Seeing this, Huo Chen reminded, “Be careful not to hit any kids.”
After saying that, they switched positions.
Huo Chen fastened his seatbelt, still a bit worried about his wife’s driving skills.
However, as the car started, Huo Chen’s body suddenly jerked forward.
“Ah!” Xu Ying accelerated to maximum speed, weaving through the traffic with silky-smooth driving skills, overtaking several cars.
“Wife, wife, slow down!” Huo Chen, sitting in the passenger seat, let the fierce wind mess up his hair but couldn’t stop his heart from pounding.
Xu Ying, not yet satisfied, loved the immediate acceleration and sharp turns when speeding, providing intense stimulation and pleasure as if being in an adventurous world.
Huo Chen’s heart had reached his throat; his entire body felt like it was in the open sea, with waves crashing against him.
It wasn’t until they entered the city center that Xu Ying finally slowed down.
Huo Chen looked at his wife with a face of misery, tapping the car door, “I feel like throwing up.”
Xu Ying chuckled, looking somewhat embarrassed at her own man.
She quickly opened the door and got out with a big belly.
As Huo Chen saw her getting out, he immediately took the driver’s seat, looking at Xu Ying with a bit of irritation, “Sit still. You’re a girl, how can you drive so fiercely? Aren’t you afraid of accidents!”
Xu Ying stuck out her tongue and obediently moved to the passenger seat, having gotten too excited and forgetting that it was no longer the apocalypse.
“From now on, you are not allowed to drive anymore,” Huo Chen said coldly, never having imagined his wife could speed drive if he hadn’t gone through this ordeal.
As soon as Huo Chen and Xu Ying returned, they saw that a shop was surrounded by a crowd, an elderly couple with graying hair sitting at the door, surrounded by a bunch of plainly dressed people and several children, completely encircling the store.
The surrounding customers couldn’t even enter.
“Wang Fucheng, get out here! You ran off to the city to live it up, leaving me, your dad, and several brothers and sisters back in the countryside. You heartless man, get out here!” the elderly lady with graying hair shouted angrily.
Lu Aimin looked angrily at this old lady and informed her again, “Wang Fucheng is off today, he’s not in the shop.
Please leave quickly and do not disrupt our business; otherwise, we will call the police right now.”
The old lady was not easily frightened. Hearing this, she immediately employed tactics often used in her village here, sitting down on the ground, legs apart, wiping tears with one hand and slapping her thigh with the other, wailing loudly.
“Oh my God, the evil capitalists have gone wild again, sending my son to work in their shop.
Now, I can’t even see my son for a moment!”
Wang Laoer’s Wife glared fiercely at her own child, “All of you start crying, get your uncle out here.”
The children glanced at each other, unable to cry at all.
Wang Laotai, annoyed, glared at her grandchildren and signaled to her daughter.
Wang Xiaomei, catching her mother’s gaze, immediately understood and fiercely pinched her nieces and nephews.
Suddenly, there was a chorus of wails and howls.
“Uncle, I want my uncle.”
“Uncle, where are you!”
When Wang Fucheng arrived, he saw this scene and walked over with a dark expression, feeling a tightness in his chest when he saw his mother.
“Mom, Dad, second brother, third brother, Xiaomei, why are you all here?”
Wang Zhuzhu, the youngest daughter of the family and the only girl, started speaking first. Her status in the family was extremely high.
Looking at her eldest brother, her face full of anger, her thick lips parted and she scolded, “Eldest brother, how could you be so heartless, sneaking out on your own without telling anyone at home.
Are you afraid we’d disturb your happy life, or are you scared we’d eat your food and drink your drinks? Do you know how hard our parents worked to raise you? How can you be so unfilial?”
Next came Wang Sandi’s accusations. He eyed Wang Fucheng up and down with his sleazy rat-like eyes, and noticing that his oldest brother was dressed better than himself, he felt resentful.
“Eldest brother, look at what you’re wearing, much better than ours. You’ve only been in the city for a few days, and you’ve gained weight, your skin has turned fairer.
It seems life in the city is good, but remember, we are your siblings; you can’t just enjoy life and ignore us.”
Wang Laoer was a simple man and stood there innocently, but Wang Laoer’s wife was not so naive. She looked around and not seeing her sister-in-law, immediately became angry.
Looking at Wang Fucheng she started accusing, “Eldest brother, I don’t mean to speak against you, but our parents are here, why isn’t our sister-in-law coming out? Don’t tell me she’s still studying; today is Sunday.
If you ask me, your family is too selfish, with our sister-in-law being so old and the children so grown up, yet she’s still off studying. You’re even more selfish, only caring about your wife and kids and not our parents.
Eldest brother, since you’ve been in the city for so long, you must know quite a few people by now, why don’t we all just stay and you find us some jobs in the city too?”
Wang Fucheng, being the eldest in the family, worked harder than an ox but received less than a dog.
Before marriage, he didn’t have many worries and merely focused on his parents.
After getting married and having his wife and children, the pressure increased. He became the pillar of the family, focusing entirely on his nuclear family, naturally paying less attention to his parents and siblings.
He initially felt guilty; when his parents came to scold him for being unfilial, he too felt it was true.
He doubled his efforts to be good to his parents, working hard in the fields. After finishing his day job, he would go hunting in the mountains at night, bringing most of the game he caught back to the Old Mansion.
But then, when his son fell ill, it distressed him greatly as he desperately needed money, but there was none at home.
He thought to go to the Old Mansion to borrow money from his parents, but they didn’t lend him a cent and even drove him out.
They said they had no money either and that since he had established his own family, he should no longer ask them for money.
Holding his son, he went around borrowing money, only to see his parents buying loads of snacks for his younger brother’s children.
It was after that incident that he completely lost hope in his parents.
Nobody knew how desperate a grown man, acting as a son, could feel when he had to beseech others for money and still get turned down.
Then to see his own mother, who clearly had money but refused to lend him any, instead buying lots of snacks for his nieces and nephews, his heart felt like it had fallen into an ice pit.
“Mom and Dad, am I really your biological child?”
