Chapter 37: Payment

Qin Zhan looked at Shi Tao with a cold smile, his eyes full of scrutiny. “Shi Tao, I made everyone have plain porridge for your own good.”

Shi Tao looked at Qin Zhan in confusion. She did not know what this man was up to again for him to say such words for her own good.

“Since you’re the mistress of the villa, I’ll leave all expenses to you.”

Upon hearing this, Shi Tao was dumbfounded. No, Qin Zhan, are you speaking the human language? Your money isn’t even mine, and the money spent is all on her?

“Qin Zhan, please think about it. I married into your family because I didn’t have money. If I had money, I would still be living a carefree life outside. How could I get married so quickly?”

The corners of Qin Zhan’s lips curled up into a cold smile. “Then do you think I, a sickly child without parents, will have money?”

Shi Tao was taken aback by his words. She could not refute him. Everyone in Su City knew how pitiful Qin Zhan’s background was. He was known as the second young master of the Qin family, but he was chased out of the old mansion early on and lived alone as a disabled and sickly person. Thinking about the huge sum of money her mother had given her before they got married, Shi Tao’s face was filled with conflict.

“Alright, Qin Zhan. We’ll have plain porridge tonight. If you like it, you can eat for a few more days.”

Qin Zhan sneered and slammed the door shut.

“Butler, Mother Zhang, I’m sorry. Let’s have plain porridge tonight.” Shi Tao turned around and gave them an apologetic smile. After a while, she gave the butler an embarrassed look.

“Butler, I would like to cook dinner personally today. I wonder if I can meet the chef in the villa and consult him about cooking.”

Actually, the reason why Shi Tao suggested having a sumptuous dinner tonight was because she wanted to see this chef who had always been in the villa but had never shown his face.

For the past few days, she’d been most curious about him, because he could quickly cook anything she wanted to eat. But Shi Tao had gone to the kitchen several times to check on him, and every time, the kitchen door had been shut tight. Sometimes the housekeeper still stood guard at the door, refusing to let her into the kitchen at all. Wouldn’t that make it clear that there was something wrong with this chef?

“Young Madam, what a coincidence. The chef is on leave today, so he can’t come to the villa. Let me prepare dinner for you.”

Taking leave? Was it really such a coincidence? Although the doubts in her heart intensified, Shi Tao did not say much. Seeing how the butler kept saying that he was going to cook, she did not delay any further and sat quietly on the stool, waiting for the meal to start.

Dinner was indeed a bowl of plain porridge for everyone.

After Shi Tao finished drinking, she still felt a little hungry. However, when she saw the butler’s apologetic gaze, she smiled insincerely and replied that everything was fine.

At night, Shi Tao was so hungry that she could not fall asleep. Without any hesitation, she got up and walked to the kitchen.

Unfortunately, the kitchen was empty and there was only a big box of milk in the fridge. It was the pure milk that she hated the most. Shi Tao looked at the fridge with an ugly expression.

Where were her cookies? Where were her cupcakes? Where was her yogurt? The fridge was still full yesterday, but now there was only this bottle of annoying stuff. It was obvious what was going on. Shi Tao opened the bottle cap and poured the fishy milk into her mouth. It was really too awful. Shi Tao covered her mouth and nose as she placed the remaining half bottle of milk back into the fridge.

This Nero Qin, she was going to abuse him too. This would be his breakfast tomorrow.
