“Why would a cold-blooded man like you be interested in having a pet? I’m actually more concerned about the safety of the pet and whether or not it’ll be able to survive under your care.”

Amused, Mu Shaoqing could not help but laugh at his best friend’s teasing comments.

“Let me put it this way,” Mu Shaoqing intruded with a note of seriousness. “What if I told you that I’m interested in a woman?”

“Rumors are just unproven stories, aren’t they? As far as I can remember, you and I are supposed to be a couple, according to the rumors,” Mu Shaoqing attempted to provoke him, but in a playful way.

For a brief instant, his friend’s face darkened.

Mu Shaoqing slowly rose to his feet and grabbed his phone on the table. He then threw a glance at the man who was clearly stung by the mockery. “Shaoang, tomorrow night’s race is canceled. We’ll compete another time.”

“You’ve never failed to keep an appointment. Where are you going?”

The man was baffled.

Ning Youyou was doing the dishes when Mu Shaoqing’s reply came in. She took a brief look at the screen, only to realize that it was from him. She became all at once shocked that she almost dropped the dishes.

“Sure.” There was only one word.

He truly was a man of few words. It could even be seen from the way he replied messages. Being reserved was probably a requirement for a bodyguard.

Nevertheless, the reply came as a reassurance that he would attend the ball, which set her mind at ease.

She looked forward to attending the ball, and at the same time, began picturing her outfit for tomorrow night.

Gleefully, she hummed a cheerful tone while continuing the dishes.
