Chapter 7: A Huge Appetite

Luo Enen sniffled and finally could not suppress her exhilaration. She looked at Gu Fenghua’s bracelet and said, “You have beef jerky! You brought beef jerky! It smells delish and it’s even from Five Spices. Have you been buying up all their beef jerky these past few days? No wonder I was unable to buy it.”

Gu Fenghua was left dumbstruck. What on earth? Was she a dog or something? No, her sense of smell was even more powerful than a dog’s! She had stored the beef jerky in her interspatial bracelet. How could she detect it through the bracelet even?

“I have been to the capital previously. Ever since I sampled beef jerky from Five Spices, it was unforgettable, so I went over to buy it when I came over. The shop attendant told me it had been sold out for days. you must have bought all the beef jerky, right?” Luo Enen’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Gu Fenghua’s bracelet and almost wanted to salivate.

“I-is…” Was her zodiac a dog? Even if it was, her sense of smell was way too powerful. Gu Fenghua’s customarily calm face seemed slightly surprised. It was the first time she met someone with such an unusual talent.

“I have a very sharp nose.” Luo Enen smiled sheepishly when she saw the look in Gu Fenghua’s eyes.

Luo Enen seemed like a pretty strong fighter. Gu Fenghua raised her brow slightly.

Luo Enen did not hold back and opened the bag right away and started eating happily as she said vaguely, “Gu Fenghua, you are my fwend from now on and I will pwotect you. I heard some people saying they want to handle you. Don’t worry. I will…”

“Oh. Sure.” Gu Fenghua remained calm. Did people want to handle her? That was normal. Absolutely normal. Gu Fenghua did not take Luo Enen’s words seriously. Would someone defend her against those privileged children and offend so many elite families just because of a bag of beef jerky? No way!

Gu Fenghua merely thought Luo Enen had randomly said it out of gratitude for the beef jerky, but her opinion would soon get disproved so overwhelmingly like a tight slap in her face.

Gu Fenghua did not take Luo Enen’s promise to heart. However, Luo Enen was easy to get along with, so she liked this new roommate of hers.

Celestial Academy’s education system came with a lot of freedom. Classes consisted of arts and martial arts courses. Arts classes consisted of cultivation theory while martial arts classes were about actual combat. Students could choose their classes freely. That meant they could choose to attend cultivation theory for any length of time. Alternatively, if they felt their cultivation theory was already strong, it was fine not to go altogether. The same went for martial arts classes.

However, if any students failed the exam at the end of the semester, it would be a huge problem. The first time they failed, they would get retained. The second time they failed, the same would happen. If any students failed three semesters in a row, then they would get thrown out of the academy and they would fly out like a shooting star and it was goodbye for them.

“Fenghua, do you know about the freshman exercise happening in three days? It is compulsory for everyone.” After Luo Enen wiped out half a bag, she cautiously put away all the remaining beef jerky as she got chummy with Gu Fenghua and called her, “Fenghua”.

“I do.” Gu Fenghua nodded. It was Celestial Academy’s tradition. No, correction. It was all the academies’ tradition for freshmen to go for an exercise. Three days from now, all the students would participate in a freshmen exercise.

They wanted to take the opportunity to find out how talented the students were. Also, it was no ordinary cultivation exercise. Instead, it was a test of the students’ ability to deal with danger and their live combat abilities. Secondly, the training would help the students mature. Through a single exercise, many benefits could be reaped.

Gu Fenghua nodded. She did not mind teaming up with her. Students could go for the exercise alone or in teams of no more than ten people. Time would pass more quickly if she had company and she kind of liked Luo Enen.

The hostel came with all necessities and everything was brand new. A part of this was because of Celestial Academy’s exorbitant school fees. After going to bed, Luo Enen pulled Gu Fenghua to the canteen excitedly first thing in the morning.

Gu Fenghua discovered that Luo Enen was a major foodie. She was especially impartial to beef. She had a bowl of beef noodles in the morning, along with beef buns, a bowl of beef and celery dumplings, and steamed buns stuffed with beef. She even washed it all down with beef soup.

Gu Fenghua looked at the beef noodles that Luo Enen had bought her too oddly. She could hear Little White Flower saying in shock in her head, “Oh god! Master, you finally met your match. You finally met a girl who can eat as much as you. Congrats! From now on, you won’t be alone when people talk about your huge appetite.”

Gu Fenghua reached her hand out and pinched the little white flower expressionlessly. The little white flower started to moan wantonly. Gu Fenghua said viciously in her heart, “If you say another word, I will throw you in the beef soup and let Luo Enen finish you off.” The little white flower watched as Luo Enen wolfed down huge quantities of food and promptly went quiet.

No classes were held three days prior to the freshman exercise. The freshmen would spend these days familiarizing themselves with the school and preparing for the exercise. They could purchase things and form teams. No restriction was placed on the things they could bring, so they could bring pills, demon beasts, or any other things to protect themselves with.

This world was never a fair place to begin with and it was completely normal for people to have different starting lines. Celestial Academy was not interested in taking in or grooming naïve students. One of their teachers famously said that luck was as good as strength.

Hence, Luo Enen pulled Gu Fenghua off to go shopping.

“Fenghua, does your interspatial bracelet have a lot of space? Help me store some things, will you?” Luo Enen held her palms together and looked at Gu Fenghua with her eyes glinting.

Lu Enen was far more friendly than Gu Fenghua expected. Gu Fenghua’s lips twitched slightly before she eventually agreed. Luo Enen started to shop like crazy and got Gu Fenghua to store everything for her.

“This looks good. Oh, we could use this too. Hmm? That looks nice. Wow. I want to get that too.” Gu Fenghua watched as Luo Enen went on a shopping spree to buy a lot of useful things and even more useless ones. From the looks of it, Luo Enen came from a rich family since she shopped without a care. However, Gu Fenghua quickly learned otherwise.

In time, Gu Fenghua learned that Luo Enen was genuinely rich, but she was a shopaholic and bought things every moment she could. In a word, she was always short on cash.

Gu Fenghua learned of this the next morning. The moment Luo Enen got up, she beamed brightly as she ingratiatingly prepared hot water for her to wash up and kept helping her with everything without saying a word.
