Chapter 27: Unafraid

Zhao Yuanjing asked, “Who is your husband?”

Yun Dai was completely caught off guard by that question.

What did he mean by that?

He had done something shameless, and now he was going to make trouble for her husband?

He was supposed to be the crown prince, but he seemed to be getting rather complacent doing what he had done.

Yun Dai really didn’t want to respond to him.

Zhao Yuanjing said, “Do you think that if you don’t say anything, I won’t be able to track him down?

“Please go ahead and track him then.”

Zhao Yuanjing was completely speechless. This was the first time he had ever encountered a woman who didn’t seem afraid of anything at all.

Yun Dai added, “If Your Highness is able to find that man, I’ll be grateful to your entire family.”

Zhao Yuanjing didn’t know what to say.

He just thought that this woman must be a little out of her mind. He didn’t understand exactly what she’d meant by her second response.

Zhao Yuanjing’s gaze swept across her face. He asked, “Aren’t you afraid?”

“Afraid of what?”

“As long as you’re a woman who I fancy, then I will find a way to get you even if you have a husband and a child,” said Zhao Yuanjing.

Yun Dai felt as if she had just been struck by lightning. “Your Highness, you…have really unique taste.”

Zhao Yuanjing had three incredibly beautiful women in his palace, and he didn’t care about them. Instead he fancied her even though she looked like this? Was there something wrong with his brain?

If she really had to find a reason, then she could only think that perhaps the crown prince had grown up seeing only beautiful women and was tired of them. So when he suddenly saw an ugly one, he found her novel and refreshing…

She was ugly and had given birth before, so there was no way he could marry her publicly.

If he dared to snatch someone else’s wife away, then those court officials who were bold enough would definitely speak enough ill of him that the amount of saliva they produced would drown him.

Yun Dai knew her situation very well and had never thought of getting involved in a messy place like the palace.

Neither Consort Chen nor Lady Lin of Decorous Service were simple women after all.

Besides, there would be all sorts of consorts and concubines who would join the harem in the future as well.

She wasn’t going to throw herself into the fire like this.

She’d thought that Zhao Yuanjing was going to punish her. But his thought process turned out to be so strange. Suddenly he wanted to find an ugly woman.

“Why do you say that?” Zhao Yuanjing spoke again when he saw that she was remaining silent.

“Your Highness, which part of me do you fancy? I’ll change that immediately.” Yun Dai really didn’t want to get caught up in such a situation. “I am someone with a son. Aren’t you afraid that others might laugh at you?”

Zhao Yuanjing raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you overthinking this?”

“What?” Yun Dai froze.

“What I’m trying to say is that I want you to separate from your husband as soon as possible, but I didn’t say I was going to take you in as a consort,” replied Zhao Yuanjing flatly.

Yun Dai was shocked. “Since you don’t intend to do that, then why are you bothered about whether I’m still with my husband or not?”

“As long as I’ve touched something, even if I throw it away, I will not allow anybody else to use it.” Zhao Yuanjing’s phoenix-shaped eyes inspected her face again. “That includes women, do you understand?”

Yun Dai scoffed angrily, “Your Highness, do you understand what first come, first served means?”

“I don’t care about what you think. I am a clean freak, so it makes me very uncomfortable to think that someone else might touch the things that I use.” Zhao Yuanjing returned to his chair and spoke lazily, “You shall go back to working obediently in the kitchen, and you are not to appear in front of me ever again. You are also not allowed to go back to see your husband either. Otherwise, I have a million-and-one ways to deal with him.”

Yun Dai had finally seen for herself the sort of lofty attitude these powerful royals had.

She really didn’t know what to say to that.

“Your Highness, you don’t have to worry. The father of my son died a long time ago,” said Yun Dai. “According to the policies here, I get one day of leave each month to see my family. Surely I get to go home and see my son, right?”

Zhao Yuanjing replied, “As long as no other man touches you, I don’t care who on earth you go back to visit.”

With that, he got up and said, “Also, do not tell anybody about what happened last night.”

“I ask the same of you,” replied Yun Dai flatly.

Zhao Yuanjing then suddenly asked, “When you went to see Lady Lin of Decorous Service last night, what did you eat there?”
