Chapter 58: Tit For Tat (II)

These simple words were uttered from Mu Jinchen’s thin lips. His flat tone was laced with a hint of coldness, but there was no arrogant undertone to it; he merely stated a fact. Usually, he was the one being paid attention to. Wushuang, for one, was not worth his attention.

Such words did not sit well with Wushuang. She looked straight into his eyes, smiled gently, and said, “Chairman Mu, you might think that I don’t know how to appreciate kind favors. It may be a dream of many to sit in Chairman Mu’s car, but I choose not to accept such favors. I think I have the right to do that.”

Wushuang’s desire to avoid him was not on a whim.

Their meeting was unexpected for the first and second time, and Wushuang had no control over it.

On the third and fourth time, Wushuang was injured and had no choice.

In just one week, he came into her life and overwhelmed her. Her face involuntarily felt hot as she thought about how he had carried her, twice. She tried to avoid contact with him for the fifth time outside of work as much as possible.

Unfortunately, it was inevitable this time.

He was her big boss, and his nephew had also pursued her. Moreover, he was Tang Mubai’s good buddy, and this alone was reason enough to keep her distance.

Mu Jinchen saw Wushuang bare her teeth for the first time. Despite the soft gentle tone, he had been backed into a corner, unable to utter a word.

The previous shy and blushing character was no longer seen. Her voice was soft, yet her attitude and tone were not provoking. She was just stating facts, too.

Interesting.

Perhaps she was not as weak as he thought.

He curled his lips, his chiseled face seemed softer against the light, and his voice seemed gentler than before as he replied, “Do as you please, Miss Jing.”

He turned and left immediately after speaking. Mu Jinchen was not one to insist on offering unappreciated acts of kindness.

Wushuang secretly let out a sigh of relief behind his back. She had anticipated the need to fight Mu Jinchen to the end and thought that he was a person used to giving orders and would not take no for an answer. He did not expect him to be so gentlemanly.

The fact was that Wushuang was entirely wrong about him. Mu Jinchen often gave others the impression of an estranged but flawless gentleman, and it was just that women were invisible to him. Why would he need to present a gentlemanly demeanor to air?

Wushuang pondered for a moment, then sent a voice message to Su Ran, “Ranran, are you done?”

Su Ran’s reply came in an instant. “Not yet. Are you home?”

“Almost. As you were then.”

“Wait. Are you still at the office?” Su Ran sensed something amiss.

“I called a car. I’ll be home soon,” Wushuang tried to reply as serenely as possible.

“Really? You could get a cab in this dastardly weather?”

“Xiaotang arranged a DiDi car for me. Don’t stay out too late.”

“Alright then. You take care.”

Wushuang did not reply further. She fumbled around the app herself and selected a premium car service. A car did come for her, and she got home safely even though the charges were far more expensive.

The next day, her foot felt much better. There was no visible swelling, although Wushuang still dared not put her full weight on that foot. She still had to limp along, but it did not hurt as much anymore.

She opened her closet and contemplated on what to wear. She could only wear flat and soft shoes, but such footwear would easily get soaked in this weather. It was also tedious to match with an outfit.
