Chapter 16: Early Ward Rounds

Not long after, the hospital’s management staff came in—a total of four werebeast guards, and all of them were from stronger species. There were also four others guarding outside the pharmacy. They were dressed in blue and black uniforms, and they looked strong and powerful. They stood at the sides holding guns, waiting to discuss with King.

“I came in to check the result of her classification task.” King raised his chin and looked towards Reese. “H89, female human. Classification duration—one hour and 37 minutes. All classification completed. No records of any misdeeds.”

He gave them some basic information about Reese in order to eliminate any suspicion of her having committed the crime.

As expected, the moment the words “female human” were uttered, all four guards had expressions that were clear as day.

In the world of werebeasts, humans were known as weaklings.

Moreover, a female?

“Then who was the one creating havoc?” They frowned. If it wasn’t this scrawny human in front of them, then there must have been someone more powerful. Perhaps they would need to resort to using force to handle this.

King understood that it was time to handle this in an official manner, so he said to Reese in a serious tone, “I need you to keep this a secret. Or else…” He pretended to warn her, acting like he was threatening an outsider.

“I’ll be going to your room tonight to find out more from you about the situation. You can go back first.”

Actually, only King and Reese knew that he meant it when he said he would be visiting at night, but what they would be discussing was another matter altogether.

Reese nodded. It was a good thing for her to leave. It would save a lot of trouble.

Upon confirming that she was completely out of the area, King then brought the four werebeasts to where the three crocodiles had fainted.

“It was right here. At that time, I seemed to have heard a faint breathing sound that was neither coming from me nor that human. Hence, I felt that something was amiss.”

“That human being is too weak, so it wasn’t surprising that she couldn’t hear it. But, there shouldn’t have been anyone else here, so I became suspicious.”

The four werebeast guards nodded. Indeed, weak humans could not hear that well.

“Next thing I knew, I saw them lying there, snoring loudly. This section contains all the sleep aids and sedative drugs. Perhaps they accidentally knocked over some of it, causing themselves to be knocked out.” King’s half-guided guess misled them into thinking in the wrong direction.

Sure enough, the four guards exchanged glances and nodded in agreement.

“My job here is done. I’ll leave the rest to you guys.”

King saw that they didn’t look suspicious and guessed that they had already accepted this conjecture. Werebeasts who were lower in rank would inadvertently be influenced by superior ones in their thinking.

Although it wasn’t a 100% success rate, the more confident and relaxed he seemed, the more likely it would work.

Now that the first step had been completed, King continued to amplify the crimes of the werecrocodiles. “I’ve examined the medicine bottles which they broke. I hate to tell you guys that it includes two drugs that are no longer being sold in the galaxy. Furthermore, we haven’t managed to do any research on them yet.”

This immediately got the attention of the four guards.

Because it was their responsibility if anything went wrong with the drugs.

Since it was a special type of medicine, they would probably be punished quite heavily.

When King saw their expressions, he knew that he had achieved what he wanted. He reckoned that the three werecrocodiles would be dragged to “that place” for drug testing and would never have the chance to come out again.

Therefore, King prepared to leave. But before he left, he even gave them some thoughtful advice. “These drugs contain a large amount of neurotoxin. Judging by the amount that they had absorbed, I’m afraid they are already delirious, so I advise everyone to save the interrogation. It will just be a waste of time after all.”

With that, he left. With his sincere tone and his usual trustworthy image, the four werebeast guards were most likely going to believe him without a doubt.

As for the crocodile men, they would probably never return.

After settling the matter regarding those werecrocodiles, King returned to his office and pulled out their files. He edited the remarks section to indicate “dangerous species,” so that similar beings would not be seen in the ordinary areas anymore.

When he was done, he went into his private bathroom.

This series of soul-stirring events made him feel mentally exhausted yet satisfied.

Suddenly, he burst into laughter.

Who would have thought that a pure-blooded black dragon like him would worry about this and that all day, just for a human?

However… that human.

King suddenly missed her again. He had been so caught up with worry earlier that he hadn’t asked for his rewards!

He slapped the water, feeling that it was a huge loss.

Water splashed everywhere, but although he had always been a clean freak, he could not care less. By the next second, he was no longer in the bathroom.

Who said that ward rounds could only be done at night?

He was going to do it now!

His urge drove him to throw on his clothes quickly. But even in such a hurry, he still checked the mirror for a long minute.

There had been many humans and werebeasts who had expressed their admiration for him in the past, and most of them had done so because of his good looks.

He wondered if that human would also take a fancy and submit to him happily?

King was fantasizing but then he shook his head. He knew that although she looked weak, she was a tough nut to crack in reality.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have fallen for her, right?
